I want to click on browser "stop loading this page" icon, when timeout error occurs,what should i do for it? Some thing like this:
browser.stop # this is wrong.
I searched forever and the best I could come up with was:
b = Watir::Browser.new
b.driver.manage.timeouts.implicit_wait = 3
This worked great for me with firefox.

Just try this logic when you want to stop the loading,
#browser.send_keys :escape
It is not the best way of doing what you want but still the above approach worked out for me.
If you use Watir-Webdriver then you can try this for IE
#browser.execute_script "document.execCommand('Stop')"

Until recently, I was using mechanize to get a web page, then do some parsing with nokogiri. But because some content was loaded with Ajax after I have started using Watir instead. My code looks like this:
def get_page(url)
browser = Watir::Browser.start url
sleep 1

It works fine but since I am getting a lot of pages the browser.start will open a tons of windows. I found the close as you see, but is there a way to just not show the browser window at all?
I'm doing some modifications on a page in my web application, this results in a popup message displayed "This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved" with two buttons "Leave Page" and "Stay on Page".
I can close my web application if using FF16 or Chrome with below code:
#driver.quit
However, I cannot close if I'm opening my web application on the browser IE9 (it means that I can open another IE9 browser session, but the browser session with popup message displayed is NOT closed).
I'm using Selenium Ruby Webdriver. Please help guide me a solution to resolve this problem. Thanks much.

I am using Watir with Chromedriver to automate form submission on some website. I have to login and submit multiple forms. The problem is, when I click the submit button the page the page automatically closes, so when I goto('next_url') I get this error:
/Users/jackz/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p327/gems/selenium-webdriver-2.27.2/lib/selenium/webdriver/remote/response.rb:52:in `assert_ok': 'auto_id' does not refer to an open tab (Selenium::WebDriver::Error::UnknownError)
The Watir instance is still there, but the window is closed. I could create a new instance every time, but then I would have to login again every time and this would take longer.
So how can I either:
Open a new window in the same Watir instance
or
Suppress the window from closing after I submit
require 'watir-webdriver'
#b = Watir::Browser.new :chrome
#b.goto(URL)
#b.buttons.first.click
#this is when the window closes
#b.goto(NEW_URL)
#then I get an error

I figured out an answer to my own question. I can open a new window in Watir using javascript:
b = Watir::Browser.new
b.execute_script("window.open()")
b.windows.last.use
This opens a window where I can fill out the form, then when the window automatically closes I still have the original window to work with. Probably not the best solution, but it works for now.
Add this to your existing code if your using chrome. else, modify accordingly as per your browser.
This will keep the window open, and the current watir session active.
caps = Selenium::WebDriver::Remote::Capabilities.chrome("chromeOptions" => {'detach' => false})
browser = Watir::Browser.new :chrome

I need to do an automated script that fills two text fields and clicks a button on a web page, and stores all resulting text to a string variable.
I know how to do this with Watir, but the problem is that this script will be running on a Windows server (with no physical monitor attached).
So this needs some kind of "emulated browser" without actual browser window... I have never before done anything like this, but after google search I think that Ruby gems "mechanize" or "capybara" might be able to do the trick.
But because I don't have any experience with either capybara or mehcanize, I'm asking a little help here...
Here is what I'm trying to do, written in Watir code. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to do the same thing with either "mechanize" or "capybara". Or, if there is some other way to do this, all suggestion are welcomed:

I use PhantomJS for this (with the Capybara driver poltergeist). It runs a headless WebKit (Safari and Chrome's browser engine) and Capybara tells it what to do. It's the simplest-to-setup implementation of this concept that I've found.
The code would look something like:

the following code works perfectly for firefox with watir-webdriver but gives me an error for google chrome and opera browsers respectively.

As mentioned in some other posts, you can full screen the browser with the following:
screen_width = b.execute_script("return screen.width;")
screen_height = b.execute_script("return screen.height;")
b.driver.manage.window.resize_to(screen_width,screen_height)
b.driver.manage.window.move_to(0,0)
Then like anonygoose said, the sign in link should be there (assuming your screen isn't too small).
Looking at the website in both Chrome and Firefox I'd say there's some sort of bug or unwanted feature going on with it.
If the web browser you're using is too narrow in width the sign-up button disappears completely.
I'd say that's why you're getting strange errors.
Test this by maximizing the Chrome browser as soon as it launches. From my testing this allows the signup button to be found.
I am not sure of a way to maximize either browser by default, but perhaps someone else on here will know or be able to suggest a way to go about it.
