I am using visual studio 2012. and i used to view run time values for all the breakpoints. but currently i can not retrieve this window again. can anyone advice which window i should chose to view ?
From the menus along the top;
Debug->Windows->Breakpoints, Will list the locations of your breakpoints.
Debug->Windows->Watch->Watch [1-4], Will list any variables you have marked to watch.
Debug->Windows->Autos, Will list active variables.

I remember some time ago I could assign a variable in Immediate Window during debug and when hovering mouse over I could see a tooltip with member values just like when hovering over variables in the code.
Now this feature stopped working in my Visual Studio 2015. Did Microsoft remove this feature in VS2015 or I messed something up? Is there a setting for this somewhere in the menus?
EDIT: Because not everyone is so sure about this feature ever existing, I add a screenshot from Visual Studio 2012 where you can clearly see the tooltips for text typed in Immediate Window (here I use the variable web):
Update:
I test it in different VS version(VS2012/VS2013/VS2015/VS2017), it really has this issue in VS2015 or VS2017. But it has this feature in VS2012 or VS2013.
I report this issue to the product team here:
https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/55570/vs2015vs2017-tooltips-stopped-showing-when-hoverin.html
If possible, you could also share your comment there.
Is there a way to configure Visual Studio so separate instances of it have separate icons in the Task Bar?
I find this way uses fewer mouse clicks, and I often find myself opening up one instance of VS 2012 and another instance of VS 2013 just to get this effect (as shown in the screenshot above).
Set the Taskbar buttons value (Right click on the taskbar and select Properties) to 'Never combine' or 'Combine when taskbar is full' value.
I am using db4o in Visual Studio 2010 but the Object Manager Enterprise toolbar will not saved its position when I restart the IDE. It comes back each time below the standard toolbar while I would like both toolbars to be on the same row to not use vertical space.
Do you have the same issue with this extension or another extension? How can we force a toolbar to remain at the same position accross sessions?
As an alternative, I wanted to create my own toolbar with the same buttons (as a toolbar I create would not be affected by the issue), but I cannot find the buttons related to the extension in the long list of available commands.
Thanks!
When I debug my web project I start with an empty Watch window and I have to add all data myself.
When a friend of mine showed me how to debug with Visual Studio he got all Watch values automatically filled in the window.
How do I get my Visual Studio to autofill my Watch window with all available values?
Your friend might have shown you the Locals window or the Autos window. They are both available through the Debug window, and automatically show you the relevant variables. The Watch window, on the other hand, is supposed to come up empty and let you fill in expressions by yourself.
I've got 2 displays with very different resolution (which makes just stretching a window over them not a good idea) and actively use both of them, usually looking at one when doing changes in another.
So I wonder if I could move a child window of Visual Studio 2010 from within the boundaries of it's main window an move it to another display. Nowadays I'd enjoy the way child windows behaved (each window, incl a toolbar and a properties pane worked as an independent window on a desktop) in Borland C++ Builder (while it was senseless the days when I actually was using it).
In Visual Studio 2010 Document Windows are (finally) detachable. For an how to, you can check this post:
Free your Document windows
Basically there are different ways you can achieve this:
Simply click and drag the tab for the Document window out of the IDE;
Go to Window -> Float on the Menu Bar.
