How to add custom app to Timeline - timeline

I have designed a small (403 pixels wide) informational dashboard (jQuery, HTML) and subscription app. I wish to be able for the user to install the app and place it onto their TimeLine, however I am clueless as to how to do that.
Can someone explain to me how that is achieved? I see how users can put fluffy stuff on the TimeLine (pics, links, etc.) but how to you get an actual app in there?
My app is no wider than the pics that my (potential) customers display on their Timeline.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm afraid that your approach is wrong and you can't display an application on Facebook's Timeline per se.
Your App can post content (text, images, etc) to a user's timeline and it can also have a dedicated section (collection) on Timeline (you need to explicitly ask the user to add it after they activate your application, it's not automatic).
A prerequisite to having sections is that your App has custom actions and a custom collection (see detailed description in the later link), which can be displayed in one of the three custom collection types supported by Facebook - List, Gallery or Map.
Note that your custom collection will require a review.
Unfortunately it seems you will have to rework your application to fit the Facebook framework.

Is it possible to embed pages from Sentry.io to another Website?

Currently, I have a Sentry.io account and push errors to the dashboard interface.
I was wondering if the following is possible:
Take the pages on the existing Sentry.io dashboard
Embed some of the panels and pages in a page on a custom website
Errors and interface would appear the same way on the custom website
Can interact with the interface and errors in the same way in terms of viewing sub-tabs and sub-pages
I'm primarily interested in the:
Projects tab and navigate to subtabs like Project Details and individual errors
Issues tab and the ability to search and view errors
Thank you.
Just came across Sentry a few weeks ago. According to the API documentation, it states the ability to GET, PUT/POST, and DELETE data even from Projects. So I think your API will allow you to push alerts to your site and if the site is interactive, you should be able to make changes( e.g. resolve issues) and it will also reflect on Sentry.
Keep in mind that the data coming from the API is unstructured, you might need to streamline what you want to show on your site depending on how your site is designed.
I am not sure if I am able to help in some way. I am also open to learning if you are able to discover how to do it or if I am wrong.

How do I create a custom global element/app within CRM Dynamics such that it shows on all pages and can control user navigation?

I need to add a custom element/mini-app/extension to CRM Dynamics sales such that it shows globally on all pages that the user navigates to and also can navigate the users urls when certain events happen.
What options exactly do I have to satisfy the above criteria?
The screenshot below shows a sample area that I need to build the app within as an example.
Id imagine there are many use cases where customizing a global element is worthwhile, especially since custom applications may need to be built.
I understand I can use the Resources to create a SPA such as angular which is running so long as the URL stays at the SPA url. But for our use case, we are looking to allow end users to be able to navigate the CRM using the custom controls. but when something happens in a another subsystem, we need end users who are logged into the CRM to instantly view data that is important to them.
Is this technically possible?
Unfortunately this is not feasible. There are some concepts to show learning path like that. It won’t satisfy your need.
I understand what you need, like a news feed or ad rotator for rolling content but context specific flyout area which is always pinned. There is no OOB option or customization/configuration available for achieving this. You can initiate this concept in Dynamics Ideas.
Like you said there can be a HTML web resource developed & embedded in a dashboard, this is very limited for your requirement.
Edit:
I think you are looking for Channel Integration Framework which will help you to configure third party CTI apps.
In CRM V9, they have introduced a new API call for 'Panel'. This panel loads to the side of the screen, and can display content regardless of where the user moves throughout the entire application. I've played around with it a bit for my own person reasons at work, but it looks to be exactly what you're looking for.
The call is 'Xrm.Panel.loadPanel(URL/WebResource)'
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/developer/clientapi/reference/xrm-panel
However, the feature is currently in development, and should only be used in production at your own risk.

How to install google analytics javascript on an overlay where content resides?

Typically, if it were a regular page-by-page website, I would install the analytics javascript before the body tag.
But, with a site where content is on overlays, how can analytics be installed to track views? (i.e. a one page portfolio site)
Thanks for any insight!
See Tracking Google Analytics Page Views with Angular.js. Even though I'm not sure if you are using something like Angular or just straight javascript, you could use a similar technique described there with hash urls that are set when a user clicks on a different part of the page, that way you could track how a user interacts with your single page site by making different urls for their interactions.
For more information see Pushing Functions onto the Queue.
In javascript that calls the overlay, you can add:
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/url/of/page']);
or:
ga('send','pageview','/url/of/page');

Dynamic (Ajax) share buttons (Facebook, Google+ and Twitter) to share an image, with a link and a description

It's been few days I'm looking for a solution and I can't figure out why it's still not working.
Here is my goal:
I have a website with a sideshow. The images are dynamically changed (with previous and next buttons). I just want to share an image on social networks (facebook, google+ and twitter) and actually see the image in my wall with a little description and the link to a page.
Precision:
The image is a thumbnail (so, not the same url) of the main image and the link I want to publish is neither the page I'm on (which is static due to Ajax) nor the image one.
My tries:
I have almost got it on facebook but the image loading failed and it was with a share button (which seems to be deprecated in favor of like) and for google+, the +1 button become red after I click it... I tried XFBML and OpenGraph, but the problem is with Ajax (url is the one of the page or is not changed even with createElement("
Questions:
1. Is there any packaged solution (like addthis, but working the way I want)?
2. Or do you have one (or a clue) for me please?
3. Am I the only one to think that offical facebook and google+ ajax documentation are lame?
Thanks a lot.
Hugo
PS: if I could have a fly-out to edit a comment with the content I'm about to share, it would be fantastic!
One way to accomplish this is with cloaking.
Setup a page which provides the image, title, and description to the social application (aka. facebook, google+). You can then use Javascript to redirect the user to the page you actually want the user to see. For users without Javascript the page should display a link to the target page with a "Click here if you are not automatically redirected". The image should exist on the page but you can place it in a div with style="display: none;" so the user doesn't actually see it.
A more advanced technique would be to use the IP address and browser name (user agent) to determine if the visitor is a user or a social network robot and using a 502 temporary redirect to the page you want the user to see if the visitor is not a social robot. The social robots would be shown a page which has the image, title and description.
The social sharing buttons that you're using all have one thing in common: they all work best when there's a URL representation for the object that you're sharing. Some of them, namely Facebook's like button and Google's +1 button, use the contents of that page to create the snippet that's shared.
This isn't a new problem, though. This is the same problem faced with search indexing of AJAX applications. Sadly there's no easy solution. Here are a couple of challenging ones:
Programmatic Solution
You can improve your back end so that it's capable of rendering pages for each shareable step in the state of your slide show: one page per image. As you step through the slide show you can destroy and re-create the social sharing plugins each time targeting them to this machine accessible version of that image.
Snapshot Solution
You can use a crawler tool that is capable of executing JavaScript to make snapshots of the different states of your application. You can then target the social sharing buttons to the snapshot of the current state.
This might require less back end work but may be challenging to keep up to date.

Access and display web sourced data as 'messages' in Outlook

I have data I provide on an http connection that's essentially message information.
I'd like to create an AddOn for Outlook that will consume/interface with that http service as if it were a mail source and display sender, recipient, subject, date etc and then be able to download the actual message and display it.
I envision this service being accessed either via a folder in the left-hand panel. (Uber feature would be if I could drag a message out of this service into the inbox!)
Unfortunately, I don't normally write code on the MS Stack -- I'm a linux guy. So I'm looking for either a follow-the-dots tutorial or an example of something similar. Failing that, I'll hire someone to write this so would love to know the specific skillsets I should be looking for when I contract someone to write it.
EDIT / Additional Thoughts
I have considered changing the web service (or at least creating a middle-man) that spoke IMAP, but only implemented a sub-set of commands (eg, there's no delete or create-folder or move)
One problem with that is that retrieving the actual message needs to be a different opperation (one that has a quota cost to the end user) so I can't just show the message. An option would be to show a "retrieve" button rather than the actual message (I found a great resource here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd542625.aspx for doing something like that) and then having that button do the retrieve and then reload itself. Maybe.
As Pekka says this could turn into a big project .. your description is pretty general and as you know the devil is in the detail ! but there are a number of options ..
you may be able to use Folder.WebViewURL Property of a folder that you have created in outlook and show your app via a web app (you can build that on any tech stack you like)
ok drag and drop may become a little tricky to do.
Outlook forms could also be used. A form can call out to your web service and display what you want. There is some info about form on SO but http://www.outlookcode.com/article.aspx?ID=35 is the best place.
Subclassing .. you can then create your own tree under the outlook tree and display whatever you want in the right hand pane such as grids forms etc. these can interact with the normal outlook folders and you can do your drag and drop though you woudl have to create Outlook Items to display them in the inbox. There is a tutorial on the technique http://www.codeproject.com/KB/office/additional_panel_Outlook.aspx though not doing exactly what you want but the technique is sound.
Next up build your own MAPI Message Store Provider which is probally the hardest thing to do on the list.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc842153.aspx
As I said your question is no functional spec and there are always many ways to skin the cat but 2 or 3 are probaly where you shoudl look at unless it simple enough just a display a web app.

Maybe our product could help you in order to avoid writing your own MAPI Message Store Provider.
