Launch "safe" Firefox - firefox

I'm trying to run jasmine unit tests on a CI server. To do that I have to launch a browser (FF in my case.)
I have a vnc server running on the server, so the browser has a display to attach to. However, when the browser is killed or terminated ungracefully (which can happen if a build fails), If I simply run "/usr/bin/firefox", I get a pop-up message from Firefox, and obviously the tests won't work.
Is there a set of flag I can use to always launch FF (as if it was a regular startup ?)
Note that :
/usr/bin/firefox -safe would not work, as it opens a popup to warn about safe mode
/usr/bin/firefox -P xyz would not work, as it opens a popup to define the profile
Thanks

How to stop Firefox debugger server without restarting Firefox

I have a VSCode config that will start the Firefox debugger server with -start-debugger-server, so that I can run an npm script and launch a website in my existing firefox windows without having to run a special firefox window with the debug server enabled.
Is there a way to turn the debugger server off short of re-starting Firefox? Something like a -stop-debugger-server CLI argument would be nice but there doesn't appear to be such a flag.
I've tried -stop-debugger-server, tried looking in the firefox CLI wiki, tried a web search. Stopped short of trying to re-start Firefox from the command line

Connecting an external debugger for browser extension development

I'm trying to figure out how to properly attach an external debugger from, say WebStorm or vs-code to debug a browser extension.
How my ideal workflow would look like:
I launch an extension in dev-mode with https://github.com/mozilla/web-ext and then can attach debugger to that browser instance, see break-points/etc.
What I've tried
Configure https://www.jetbrains.com/help/webstorm/configuring-javascript-debugger.html specifying a URL on which my extension operates.
Add a break-point to a content-script
After browser is started by debug process - load my extension from disk & reload the page
Expected: debugger stops at a break point
Actual: page loads without interruption (or sometimes debugger stops at a random code not from my extension 😅 )
I've also tried setting the breakpoint for a background script, which didn't seem to have any effect either.
Misc
For content-script WebStorm seems to indicate that break-points are not in a valid state
Background script breakpoint is, not that it helps
Code is bundled with Parcel with source-maps enabled
Browser is Chrome 99.0.4844.51 (FF debugging does not seem to be supported)
System: macOS 12.2

Selenium-webdriver Firefox issue windows 7

I am running Selenium Webdriver locally on my windows home server (windows 7 professional actually) which logs to a site and sends some emails. It's a java program with a single thread running.
I can see Firefox opening up just fine when running through Eclipse and follow the clicks etc as it logs on without problems.
I have set up a Task Scheduler task to start it up every morning though and run the jar. The program runs fine but when Firefox opens it is almost invisible, I can see the grey frames of it but everything else is transparent and invisible and if you drag something in front of it the graphics get stuck.
When clicking on Properties on Task manager I can see that it started with firefox.exe - foreground whereas when I open Firefox normally it says -browser.
The program still does what it should do, it's just Firefox is not visible at all when running through java -jar X.jar etc.
Any ideas why?
Windows 7 Professional
WebDriver 2.32
Firefox 21
I suspect it has something to do with the anonymous Firefox Profiles created each time firefox runs. I usually delete them from Temp once a week.
P.S No idea if it matters but server is headless and I am accessing it through TeamViewer.
Issue solved by deleting firefox profiles and loading from scratch. Weird, not sure yet what caused this and if it happens again.
Perhaps I will create a specific firefox profile and use instead of a anonymous one created each time.

Is it possible to run 2 firefox instances one in safe mode and one not

I love firebug for helping debug my web apps, as well as seeing how others have implemented there sites. However firebug hinders memory leak testing.
I've just found that FireFox can be launched in safemode which disables all addons, which is great for memory usage testing however once firefix is launched (either samemode or not) all subsequent firefox launches (they all appear in task manager as 1 firefox instance) will use the mode of the first one.
I'd like to leave one in same mode testing some apps for leaks and use another with firebug to develop.
I've tried making a copy of the FireFix.exe and even copying the whole firefox directory but it still launches as one application.
I could always use VirtualBox to create a full virtual PC for this testing but that seams like a large overhead.
Edit
I have just tried the -no-remote switch but it just comes up with "firefox is already running .... you must first close the existing Firefox process.... "
First close all your Firefox instances. With all instances closed, run firefox via the "Run..." dialog on windows, typing "firefox -p". It will open with the profile manager, where you can create multiple profiles with different configurations.
After creating your profiles, just run you "main" browser using "firefox -p" and select your "main" profile. To open another instance using a different profile, run Firefox using "firefox -no-remote -p" and it will prompt the profile manager again, so you can choose a different profile.

How to shutdown local tomcat server when closing browser window?

I hava a web app running on a local tomcat server.
When the user starts the app (via desktop shortcut) the server starts and the app is opened in a browser window.
But when the user just clicks on the close button to stop the application the server is still running in the background - that's annoying.
I tried to utilize the "unonload" and "onbeforeunload" events from javascript but unfortunately these events are also fired on some other requests in the app.
So I can't use them, except I do a lot of refactoring.
Does anyone have an idea for a possible solution?
Btw, what I find interesting is the behaviour of Visual Studio when debugging a web application. When I close the browser window Visual Studio also gets a trigger to stop debug mode. So it seems it somehow notices the close event of the browser window, which would be exactly what I need. But I don't know how they do it...
Can you wrap the starting of Tomcat and launching your app in a batch file or shell script? (Not sure what your target OS is...)
The script/batch file would start Tomcat and then launch your application. When the user exits your application, the script/batch file would then shut down Tomcat.
You can setup a short session timeout, and use a HttpSessionListener. On sessionDestroyed(..) you can stop tomcat (using catalina.bat for example) .
Otherwise you can try to detect browser close, and send a shutdown message to the server using ajax (before the browser is closed).
