I am creating a Joomla website(Rockettheme template). The problem is that when I add it into the Google search, the title of the link appears as the name for the Rockettheme template, and I can't change it to the name of my website. Here is a picture of the google search :
How can I change the Ximenia-July 2012 Template Demo to the title that I want?
As Super Administrator, you should have access to the Global Configuration, which is where you can update the Site Title.
In the back-end Administration, go to your main Control Panel, go to Global Configuration, and in the first section "Site" there should be a field for "Site Name". Enter the name of your website that you want.
While you're there, you should also scroll down to the Metadata Settings and update your Site Meta Description with a short description of what your site is about, as this is used on the Google Search Engine Results Page as well.

Well I know your feel bro :)
OK If I guessed it correct,
you have to go to the main menu, in menu manager.
select 'home' menu item, and then go to 'page display options'
there you can find what you seem to looking for, viz the first input box labeled 'Browser Page Title'.

The name of my site appears in the title of all of my site's pages.
How can I hide the site name in one of my articles ("only one")?
You don't hide the name through the article itself, but by changing the setting for the menu item that opens the article.
So go to the backend, open the menu item and go to the Page settings (sorry, I'm not working with the English version of Joomla, so I don't know the exact name). The second option on that screen (show page title) must be set to No.
Hi I'm looking to translate the Frontend User Menu for Joomla containing the menu:
User Menu
Your Profile
Submit an Article
Submit a Weblink
Site Administrator
Template Settings
Site Settings
It's primary the Title and the first 3 options that I need to translate.
I've been searching my file directory almost whole day now to find the associated files, but without any luck.
I'm using the Danish language pack, and even if I set it as the default language for both frontend and backend, the frontend User Menu it still shows in English. Which makes me guess it's not located in any of the language folders...
WHat you are trying to translate is the actual titles of the menu items, plus the title of the module that renders this menu.
For these:
Your Profile
Submit an Article
Submit a Weblink
Site Administrator
Template Settings Site Settings
You need to go in the menu manager, I guess this menu should be called "User Menu" and edit the menu-items titles to your desired titles.
For the "User Menu", you need to go to Module Manager and find the Menu Module that renders this menu, should be called "User Menu" and change its title as per your needs.
Joomla has an automatic search for language strings and override creation at:
Extensions -> Language Manager -> Overrides -> New
If search doesn't get results please try word by word because sometimes components use combination of strings.
If you still can't find the strings then there may be a menu at Menus -> Menu Manager that you could translate or these strings have been set in the code without string variables (you have to check your component / module).
Good Luck!
I am trying to copy a joomla website to a sub domain of a website: http://sub.domain.com. Database and everything seems fine. When I access http://sub.domain.com, the website is automatically redirected to: http://sub.domain.com/en/index.php and the error is:
The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
Please try the following:
Make sure that the Web site address displayed in the address bar of your browser is spelled and formatted correctly.
If you reached this page by clicking a link, contact the Web site administrator to alert them that the link is incorrectly formatted.
Click the Back button to try another link.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
Technical Information (for support personnel)
Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 404.
Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled Web Site Setup, Common Administrative Tasks, and About Custom Error Messages.
Yes, I deploy the joomla site on an IIS server but I am sure it is running both for php as well as asp.net.
Any idea about this auto-redirection and how can I solve this?
For me the solution was to TURN OFF Search engine friendly URL's.
After installing Joomla it was turned on. I already tried the above options. no result.
When hovering my mouse over the second menubutton I did not see the the php code to that article in the left lower corner of my browser but just mywebsite/folder1/folder2/
and not something like : index.php?options=com and so on.....
So I tried to switch OFF the Search engine friendly URL's after I already had the articles, categories and menu's. And it worked.
After reading all your comments, I can give this suggestion:
Knowing that the previous server wasn't an IIS, and when you said it was in a Linux, probably it was an Apache server, then follow these steps:
Enter the administration area by going to http://sub.domain.com/administrator/
Select "Global Configuration", and select the "Site" tab;
Go to the right column and in the "Use URL rewriting" select "no".
If you don't have more than one language, you can do the following (in this example, the English language will be the default):
(in the administration area) Go to the menu "Extensions" and select "Language Manager", go to the "Installed - Site" tab;
Select (click in the checkbox) the english language and click "Default" (this assumes that there are more than one language in this screen).
Go to the menu "Extensions" and select "Plug-in Manager";
Select "System - Language Filter", and disable it.
In Joomla 1.5, I created an article. Before publishing it, I want to send a preview URL to my colleagues (they are not registered to Joomla).
I'm looking for something like adding task=preview to the URL and it would show the article.
It would be enough if the article would be normally published but would not be displayed on the main page in the latest news. I tried to set "Front Page" to "No" but without success.
How can I solve the problem?
Joomla! 1.5 doesn't have a feature like this and from the way it's built I'm not sure it's possible without modifying the core com_content files. You could try a search of the Joomla! Extension Directory to see if someone has implemented what you're after.
In the meantime if the article is turning up on the websites front page even when you've set it not to - then the front page must be using a Section/Category Blog page style rather than a Joomla Frontpage page. In this case you could find out which category is set to show on the menu item being used for the front page and then temporarily change your article to another that doesn't appear there.
Once you've got it in another Category you should be able to get a link to the article by doing a search from the front end (assuming you don't want to create a menu link).
try creating a new category called Preview and since that wouldn't have been assigned to any pages yet, it should not appear. If you have trouble finding the article then, you could temporarily publish it either on the home page or somewhere in the menu. Then when you have found and copied the url, you can remove the article from the home page or menu or wherever you temporarily have it appear.
If you should ever want several 'preview' articles appearing on one page, create a new menu item, assign it to the Preview category you made, and in System Parameters, click on Show Title: 'No' so it doesn't appear in the menu. I don't know about what shows up in Google for example so if it's sensitive data I can't say it won't show in search engines, it probably will.
It probably appears on the Front Page because as you say it's part of the 'latest news' module. You could also try removing it from the module feed, but a new category is what I'd do.

I just selected Section: "Uncategorised" and the article went out from the latest news. Hope it's not accessible any other way in the current setup (there is no search function hopefully). It's not a cleanest solution, but it seems to work.
I'm working on a site in Joomla! and on the homepage, at the top of the article, it comes up with a h1 of the website name. The pagesource says (Note it's not the article title.)
Any idea how to get rid of it?
Thanks,
Steph
You can set this h1 tag not to display via the Parameters - System section of your Menu Item Manager screen in administrator ... this page has a nice depiction of the steps.
It's so simple
Just do the following :
Login to the Joomla Administrator Interface
Go to the Menu Manager
Select your Menu
Select your Menu Item (Home Menu)
On the right hand, Click Parameters (System)—> and in the *Show Page Title—->*Just Select No.
That's all.
This is not the desired solution, since many people, (including myself) actually need to be able to Set/Override the page title (That Appears in the Browser’s Title bar), and setting Page Title to no here will also remove the functionality to Configure the Browser title (which is important for SEO among other things).
Anyway, I have searched and not been able to find a fully correct solution via CMS or PHP Code. The closest solution which is not fully perfect, but unlikely to cause significant (if any) negative effect on your site is through Javascript (Example is JQuery).
jQuery(document).ready( function($) {
$(‘.componentheading’).empty();
});
This can also be done is JS with no JQuery. When I find a better method of doing this I’ll let you know.This should actually be done by removing output from a template file.I don’t know which one yet. When I do, I’ll post it…
When setting the page title not to show in the menu item as stated in other answers, this will not stop the text entered in the page title box being used as the browser title, it will just stop it being shown in the page.
Using javascript to remove it is not a good idea.
1. It will only work for browsers with javascript enabled
2. Search engine spiders will still see it. As the component heading for articles is 'articles' by default it will see all your pages with the same h1 tag.
Just turn it off in the menu item and enter your browser title in the text box above.
