I have a long experience of using a whole host of different tools from Telerik and, I have to say, I love them.
But I need an alternative. Why? Well, I want to start an Open Source project. The project will have a number of elements including an MVC frontend. Sadly, Telerik's licencing specifically prohibits the use of their components in Open Source Projects.
I'm going to need a number of components but most notably a Grid. Can anyone suggest a usable and worthwhile component set that I would be able to use in an Open Source project.
Any suggestions accepted.

Jquery UI (https://jqueryui.com/) is good but you should search for good components (thousands of ones can be found!). For example JqGrid for grid : http://jqgrid.com/ and . The main advantage is Jquery based if you are in love with Jquery. Also Visual Studio has it in its default project template.
Sencha ExtJs is great but a little different approach (it is completely JavaScript based and not JQuery based but it is a comprehnsive platform). Its control gallery is fantastic. specially for grid. check this : http://www.sencha.com/products/extjs/examples/
Kendo UI (latest telerik project) : I am not sure about KendoUI license but it think its JavaScript components are open source (although their MVC extensions are not free). check it at : http://www.kendoui.com

Espresso has live preview feature which shows live changes of code as we write code.
I am searching for same feature in a tool for Windows?
Dreamweaver has that one, but doesn't support JS. Is there any other web editor or IDE?
The closest I know of is the IntelliJ platform (WebStorm/IntelliJ IDEA) with the live edit plugin. It works in combination with a Chrome plugin.
You can watch a demonstration of live edit in action here
Instructions for setting up the Chrome plugin are here.
Shameless plug: LIVEditor - the product name contains the word live, in order to emphasize its feature to show live html/css preview, which is, alone with the integrated Firebug-like html element inspector for showing applied css styles, the most important nature of this code editor.

I would like to study the source of the Razor view engine. Since MS provides the source for MVC, I assumed that Razor's is available too... but have been unable to locate it. Any suggestions?
The source for MVC 3 Beta version of Razor is available here: http://aspnet.codeplex.com/releases/view/54306. However, this release is quite old and there have been a number of changes to Razor.
The final source for Razor will be made available soon after the release of MVC3 RTM
I know this is an old question, but Microsoft just released the source code for Razor, WebMatrix.Data, System.Json, and a number of other ASP.NET stack technologies.
See the source code here . Apache 2.0 license.
Well... even if source code is not available yet you can practically take a look using Reflector (it's free). Just find the DLL(s) and import into Reflector.
However, please notice that reverse engineering may or may not be illegal in your country. In mine, it's perfectly legal, especially when your purpose is studying.
Source code for MVC is here
"Model view controller framework for building dynamic web sites with clean separation of concerns, including the merged MVC, Web API, and Web Pages w/ Razor."
https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc
"Parser and code generator for CSHTML files used in view pages for MVC web apps."
https://github.com/aspnet/Razor
And this has pointer for all .Net sources

Enjoy!

I need to generate gift vouchers from PHP code and was looking at PDF libraries to accomplish this. Stumbled upon LiveDocx http://www.livedocx.com/ which looks like an excellent service and then found http://www.phplivedocx.org/ which looks like the natural choice for PHP. Problem is I'm using Zend Framework 1.6 still. Is there a way to get phplivedocx to work with Zend 1.6 or is there another template based php generation library that I can use?
Any other suggestions on accomplishing my original goal of generating vouchers is welcome although I must say that I've gone the programmatic approach before using TCPDF. It works well but is just too much work to get nice pdf design.
I ended up generating an HTML file and converting it with the wkhtmltopdf (Webkit HTML to Pdf) tool: http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/
If using a WYSIWYG editor to generate the HTML then I guess one is almost at the kind of functionality that livedocx brings i.e. to allow templates to be created with an editor.
The zend framework is loosely coupled. You should try downloaded the latest copy and placing the Zend_Service_LiveDocX folder in your Zend library in the Zend_Services folder and if you have autoloading enabled, your application should be able to find it and use it... it's worth a try and certainly a better idea than sourcing another third party application. I too have used all the various pdf libraries out there for php and you know what, I hated every one of them.

After seeing a friend using RapidWeaver and producing wonderful results in a few clicks, I was astonished and started searching if a tool like that exists for Windows. Unfortunately, so far my search yielded no result, so I'm writing here the criteria I'm using hoping that anybody will come up with a relevant suggestion:
WYSIWYG HTML editor
Must work (well!) on Windows (Vista/7)
Must not be web based (I don't care about webapps allowing me to create sites off of crappy templates)
Template-based (and possibly with many templates available)
Pretty flexible (nothing like Dreamweaver, but I wouldn't like being stuck with just entering text into some prebuilt templates)
Intuitive (and possibly good looking) UI
Producing standards-compliant markup (office-like HTML is not an option)
Here is what I don't care about:
Price/License (if it's commercial it's probably even better for my purpose, as if the tool is good I will want fast, quality support)
Good code editing features (when I'll get my hands dirty with the markup I want things to be looking already pretty good so I'll just have to improve certain areas based on my requirements...)
Server-side scripting (I'm handling that otherwise, for this tool I just care about the design part)
Here's a list of commonly recommended tools I consider unfit for my needs:
NVU
KompoZer
Microsoft Expression Web
Microsoft Visual Web Designer
Adobe Dreamweaver (good, but too good for my needs. At this stage, I'd prefer something quicker, even if it means having lower quality html)
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Probably too late, and not sure if this helps you anyway:

I'm looking for websites that showcase screenshots of applications with exceptional UI design. I'm writing an application and am taking my time considering what the UI should look like. My audience is not business but family.
My previous UI-design experience (and comfort) is with Windows Forms so I would typically use standard list boxes, buttons, tabs, etc. Now I'm experimenting with WPF and was looking at more...attractive...interfaces (as long as it still meets the needs of the application and enhances - not detracts - from its purpose).
Any thoughts of galleries or specific examples of applications with great UI design?
EDIT: I'll also take individual application's that you feel make a great, intuitive design.
For web, check this link:
http://designingwebinterfaces.com/designing-web-interfaces-12-screen-patterns
For windows forms, there is no such site (at least to my knowledge). What I do is to mimic the behavior of the applications I like (e.g. docking panels in Visual studio, some other GUI in Office and so on.
Media players (e.g. DVD or audio players) also have some really cool looking Gui so you can download a couple of demos from different vendors and checkout their GUI.
Last example is to go to sites like www.codeguru.com or www.codeproject.com and checkout the winforms/ MFC sections there. They have some really cool custom controls stuff.

I found the following site which has some cool stuff for WPF:

It's not a gallery, but Joel Spolsky wrote a great book on User Interface Design for Programmers.
