It appears that the destination MAC address is added for routing purposes. But what is the purpose of including a source MAC address in a packet?
One purpose, besides telling the destination host where to send the reply, is i.e. in switches. They use the source address to identify the address of the system on a specific port. Next time they see that address as the destination, they know where to send the packet. Otherwise, the packet would need to be sent to all ports, making the switch perform not much better than a simple hub.
One use of source MAC addresses is for switches to discover which port a MAC address is connected to.

I am working on a couple of network troubleshooting scenarios and I wanted to check if there is a way I can find out what source port my PC is using to connect to a website? I am using Windows 10.
I tried using netstat -a, but this shows a lot of active connections and if my understanding is correct, the port numbers shown here are destination ports, correct?
nestat capture
The port numbers are clearly shown in your netstat output, i.e. TCP 10.0.0.166:2424 13.107.5.88:https means that it connected from the local IP 10.0.0.166 source port 2424 to the remote system 13.107.5.88 on port 443 (https). Note that due to NAT the source IP on the remote system will be different (i.e. your external IP address) and the source port can be different too, but the value can not be detected on the local system.

I am wondering what is wrong with my windows server 2012 r2 standard, use this server to serve as file server only to replace my current windows server 2003 standard edition.
During installation, setup with ip address 192.168.103.200 and everything ok, after some adjustment and configuration, we decide to take the server to production and change the ip address to the old ip address and power off the old server, which the ip address is 192.168.2.2, but after change the ip address, the server is not able to connect to other computers and vice versa. Try to change the ip address to 192.168.2.3 and everything is working.
Anyone know what could the cause for this issue?
I think the source this problem there is network level. Try to ping itself. Make on server ping to 192.168.2.2. If no then this is problem with driver's NIC. But if yes... Then check your network switch or router. There are maybe any settings for MAC address and this IP address(any filter rules your firewall). I'm almost sure this problem is in port access settings in your network equipment.

CRS125-24G-1S routeros 6.32.3
How I can determinate list of arp records (mac addresses) for one port? Port marked as slave to ether1-master-local.
I found a solution.
For CRS series use in terminal:
> interface ethernet switch unicast-fdb print
For other RouterOS device use:
> interface ethernet switch host print
In terminal window:
/ip arp print
But if you have slaved your interface to another, all arp data is moved to the master interface.
So, either you will find your MAC list in ether1-master-local, but it will be melted with all other slaved interfaces,
either unslave your interface and you will have a more precise list.

I'm puzzled by what this error means :
But my program(lotus notes) , still works fine. I just want to know what that entails, an "IP address conflict error"
It means that there is more than a single device with the same IP address in your network. This usually happens when using static IPs without DHCP server to provide them (i.e., setting the IP manually). This can lead to multiple connectivity issues since the address is not unique now, creating an inherent ambiguity for the routing protocol. The system may appear working but this isn't something to rely on since this is a serious problem that should be fixed.

I have laptop with an external e-sata/USB combo port. I have an internal Seagate SATA drive removed from another laptop. I want to recover the data in this disc. Is it possible to connec t this hardisk through the e-SATA port? If so, what cable would I need to connect in?
You need a SATA-to-eSATA cable for the data. It's pretty standard. It's getting power to the drive that can sometimes be a challenge.
Alternatively, get an external enclosure, or a SATA-compatible dock. I use this one, and have had no troubles with it.
