Hadoop installation on Amazon cloud - hadoop

i am new to Hadoop ,i likes to go in hadoop administration line so studied basics of hadoop and tried to install hadoop in pseudo distribution mode and installed successfully and run some basic examples also, now i need to improve me further,so i need to try a way to learn hadoop installation and configuration in real time so decided to go for Amazon micro instance ,can any one please tell how to install and configure hadoop in Amazon cloud.
Thanks in Advance.

I have tried this personally and you will not really be able to use hadoop on a single micro instance due to memory restrictions. IMHO you should atleast try a medium instance to run hadoop or better yet use their elastic-mapreduce api which is a modified version of hadoop. You can run a 3 node cluster for around 00.25 cents an hour. If you really want to learn big data this is the way I went.
You should check out their documentation here
http://aws.amazon.com/documentation/elasticmapreduce/

Jenkins as JobServer on Hadoop EdgeNode

I´m not sure that someone can help me but I´ll take a try.
I´m running Jenkins on an Openshift-Cluster to use it for Deployment and as a jobserver for running ETL-Jobs. These jobs are transferring data from flatfiles to databases and from db to db.
Now, I should expand the system to transfer data to a hadoop cluster using MapR.
What I would like to know is, how can I use a new Jenkins-Slave as a jobserver on an EdgeNode from the hadoop-cluster using MapR. Do I need the Jenkins on the EdgeNode or am I able to use MapR from my existing Jenkins-Jobserver?
Mabye, someone is able to help me or has some informations/links how to solve it.
Thx to all....
"Use MapR" isn't quite clear to me because I just view it as Hadoop at the end of the day, but you can effectively make your Jenkins slave an "edge node" by installing only the Hadoop Java (maybe also MapR) client utilities plus any XML configuration files from the other edge nodes that define how to communicate with the cluster.
Then, Jenkins would be able to run sh("hadoop jar app.jar"), for example
If you're using Openshift, you might also try putting a Hadoop client inside a Docker image that could run in Jenkins, or anywhere else

How to instal Hadoop tools on AWS cluster

I am new to Hadoop and big data. I have setup a 4 node working Hadoop cluster in AWS. I wanted to what are the different tools I can install on that and how to install them. My plan is to stream twitter data to HDFS and then looking for specific patterns . What are the tools available for this task.
Thanks in advance.
Raj
You can very easily see what technologies you can have available to your cluster when you request it, and AWS will take care of the installation.
Just go to EMR, create a cluster, then click on advanced options, and you will see something like this:
If you're asking which technology is best suited to your particular use case, then maybe you should post a separate question when you've figured out exactly what you're trying to do.

Setting up Hadoop in a public cloud

As a part of my college project, I would like to modify Hadoop's source code. However, the problem is that I would need atleast 20 systems to test it. Is it possible to setup this modified version of Hadoop in public clouds such as Google Cloud platform or Amazon Services? Can you give me an idea on the procedure to follow?I could only find information about setting up the original Hadoop versions in the public cloud set up. I couldn't find any information that is relevant to my case. Please do help me out.
Amazon offers elastic mapreduce. But as you correctly pointed out you will not be able to deploy your version of hadoop there.
But you still can use Amazon or Google cloud to just get the base linux servers and install your hadoop on it. It is just a longer process but not different from any other hadoop installation if you have done it before.

Hadoop on cluster configuration /Installation

Hi i have a small doubt , I have started to use in my curiosity but now i have the following problem
My scenario is like this - i have 10 machines connected in LAN and i need to create Name Node in one system and Data Nodes in remaining 9 machines . So do i need to install Hadoop on all the 10 machines ?
For example i have ( 1.. 10 ) machines , where machine1 is Server and from machine(2..9) are slaves[Data Nodes] so do i need to install hadoop on all 10 machines ?
And i have searched a lot On Hadoop cluster network on commodity machine but i dint get any thing related to Installation [ that is configuration]. Some of them given like how to config and install Hadoop on own system but not on the clustered environment
Can any one help me ? and give me the detailed idea or article suggested links to do the above process
Thanks
Yes, you need Hadoop installed in every node and each node should have the services started as for appropriate for its role. Also the configuration files, present on each node, have to coherently describe the topology of the cluster, including location/name/port for various common used resources (eg. namenode). Doing this manually, from scratch, is error prone, specially if you never did this before and you don't know exactly what you're trying to do. Also would be good to decide on a specific distribution of Hadoop (HortonWorks, Cloudera, HDInsight, Intel, etc)
I would recommend use one of the many deployment solutions out there. My favorite is Puppet, but I'm sure Chef will do too.
A different (perhaps better?) alternative is to use Ambari, which is a Hadoop specialized deployment and administering solution. See Deploying and Managing Hadoop Clusters with AMBARI.
Some Puppet resources to get you started: Using Vagrant, Puppet, Testing & Hadoop
Please verify below tutorial

Hope it helps
Yes hadoop needs to be there on all the computers

Is there an Amazon community AMI for Hadoop/HBase?

I would like to test out Hadoop & HBase in Amazon EC2, but I am not sure how complicate it is. Is there a stable community AMI that has Hadoop & HBase installed? I am thinking of something like bioconductor AMI
Thank you.
I highly recommend using Amazon's Elastic MapReduce service, especially if you already have an AWS/EC2 account. The reasons are:
EMR comes with a working Hadoop/HBase cluster "out of the box" - you don't need to tune anything to get Hadoop/HBase working. It Just Works(TM).
Amazon EC2's networking is quite different from what you are likely used to. It has, AFAIK, a 1-to-1 NAT where the node sees its own private IP address, but it connects to the outside world on a public IP. When you are manually building a cluster, this causes problems - even using software like Apache Whirr or BigTop specifically for EC2.
An AMI alone is not likely to help you get a Hadoop or HBase cluster up and running - if you want to run a Hadoop/HBase cluster, you will likely have to spend time tweaking the networking settings etc.
To my knowledge there isn't, but you should be able to easily deploy on EC2 using Apache Whirr which is a very good alternative.
Here is a good tutorial to do this with Whirr, as the tutorial says you should be able to do this in minutes !
The key is creating a recipe like this:
whirr.cluster-name=hbase
whirr.instance-templates=1 zk+nn+jt+hbase-master,5 dn+tt+hbase-regionserver
whirr.provider=ec2
whirr.identity=${env:AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID}
whirr.credential=${env:AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY}
whirr.hardware-id=c1.xlarge
whirr.image-id=us-east-1/ami-da0cf8b3
whirr.location-id=us-east-1
You will then be able to launch your cluster with:
bin/whirr launch-cluster --config hbase-ec2.properties
