Is there any way that I can connect KendoUI draggable item to be added to KendoUI sortable list as the example with jQueryUI here: http://jqueryui.com/draggable/#sortable. I'm hitting my head for a day with this and its becoming medium funny. Should I switch to jQueryUI?
Did you check KendoUI Sortable widget. It is actually pretty easy to use.
If this is your HTML list elements:

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

Option 4

Option 5

Option 6

You just need to do:
$("#sortable").kendoSortable({
});
Check it here : http://jsfiddle.net/OnaBai/gN3jV/
With this default initialization you have the dragged element look like the original one (same CSS style) but you can change it by defining a hint handler:
$("#sortable").kendoSortable({
hint:function(element) {
return element.clone().addClass("ob-hint");
}
});
Where I add to the dragged element the CSS class ob-hint.
See the previous example modified: http://jsfiddle.net/OnaBai/gN3jV/1/
And you can also style the placeholder (where to drop) by defining a handler that adds a class to the element or even a text.
$("#sortable").kendoSortable({
hint:function(element) {
return element.clone().addClass("ob-hint");
},
placeholder:function(element) {
return element.clone().addClass("ob-placeholder").text("drop it here");
},
});
The modified example here : http://jsfiddle.net/OnaBai/gN3jV/2/
There is no way to do this in the Kendo UI controls. Telerik says they have no plans to do this and have lots of excuses why they are not going to do it.
However, using some JavaScript, there is a way around it. If you make both lists sortable, you can filter the 'draggable' items, so they do not change positions.
$("#draggable").kendoSortable({
connectWith: "#sortable",
start: function () {
$("#draggable div").each(function () {
$(this).removeClass("sortable");
});
}
});
This fiddle shows this: http://jsfiddle.net/kgjertsen/r4xmLevq/
The only drawback is the 'draggable' item disappears until you drop it on the sortable area.

I am using Kendo UI MVC and i have a kendoTabStrip on acshtml page. By default I am selecting the first tab on page load. All other tabs are loaded dynamically using AJAX.
Issue: I am trying to find the selected tab so i can find its children?
one way to find active tab is by calling select() method without parameter, or anotherway is by checking classname 'k-state-active' however both methods doesnt work

#(Html.Kendo().TabStrip()
.Name("MyTabStrip")
.Animation(false)
.Items(items =>
{
foreach (var revision in Model.MyCollection)
{
items.Add()
.Text(revision.Name)
.LoadContentFrom("MyActionMethod", "MyController", Model.ID);
}
})
)

Note that above in cshtml that the script tag is at the end of the page.
Below is the script code
$(function(){
var tabStrip = $("#MyTabStrip").getKendoTabStrip();
if (tabStrip != null && tabStrip.tabGroup.length > 0) {
tabStrip.select(0); // this line is getting executed for sure
}
// the line below returns -1 here why?????
var index = tabStrip.select().index();
// another way to find active tab is by checkikng class name 'k-state-active' however it didnt work either.
// jQuery couldnt find any element with class 'k-state-active'
$('.k-state-active')
})
UPDATE1
The activate event of tabstrip would not work for me because it get fired each time i select tab. I need an event which gets fired only once. Ultimately i want to find NumericTextBox controls on selected tab and attach 'change' event handlers to those controls. like below
$(function(){
var tabStrip = $('#MyTabStrip').data("kendoTabStrip");
tabStrip.bind('activate', function (e) {
$('[data-role="numerictextbox"]').each(function(){
$(this).getKendoNumericTextBox().bind("change",function(e){
alert('changed');
})
})
});
})
here the change event handler will get attach to NumericTextBox everytime i select the tab
$('.k-state-active') works fine it will return the two elements from DOM. You are trying to select element in $(document).ready that's the reason you are not getting element as tab control is not rendered yet.
Try to write your code onActivate event of kendo tab strip control.
OnActivate event is triggered after a tab is being made visible and its animation complete. Before Q2 2014 this event was invoked after tab show, but before the end of the animation. This event is triggered only for tabs with associated content.
See more at http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/ui/tabstrip#events-activate
1st Tab name

Tab Name
2nd Tab Content

I have an element, #i1, that is below another element, .close_button, and they each have a click event associated with them...the former's is called clickFade() while the latter's event is a anonymous function that is defined within the execution of the aforementioned clickFade().
When clickFade() is called by clicking on #i1, the parent div,#welcome, is fadedTo opacity .1 and #A is fadedIn. Also, unbind() is called for #i1 and the anonymous function mentioned above that is associated with a click event on .close_button is defined. This function just reverses the effects that clickFade() has when a close_button image is clicked.
I don't think the problem is a z-index issue (because I've tried it already and the close_button image is always visible on top). I also don't think it's a binding issue because the button works, but only when there's nothing underneath of it...for example, if the button is half overlapping one of the background images like #i1, the half that isn't on top of #i1 will trigger the event while the other half will not.
What's the problem here and how can I fix it?
Here are the gists for the HTML, CSS, and JS; here's the relevant code:
HTML:

Welcome

JS:
function clickFade() {
$('#welcome').fadeTo('slow',.1);
$('#i1').unbind('click',clickFade);
$('#i1').unbind('mouseover',mouseOverFunc);
switch (this.id) {
case "i1":
$('#A').fadeIn('slow');
$('.close_button').click(function() {
$('#A').fadeOut('slow');
$('#welcome').fadeTo('slow',1);
$('#i1,#i3,#i5').click(clickFade).mouseover(mouseOverFunc);
});
break;
.
.
.
}
}
So you both have to set the z-index AND set position:relative for this to work.
z-index not working with fixed positioning and others. Good luck!
I am trying to use Kendo's Mobile widgets inside of my PhoneGap Durandal project.
See sample source project here: https://github.com/rodneyjoyce/DurandalKendoMobile/tree/master/App
I don't understand where to put the Kendo initilisation code (the widgets do not render without this):
window.kendoMobileApplication = new kendo.mobile.Application($(document.body), {
skin: "flat"
});
I have tried to put it into the Index.html, shell.html and into a particular Durandal page view (x.html), shell.js, main,js and x.js but none of these work.
My Index page has these links in it:

My Durandal View has the following HTML with Kendo Mobile widgets:

1

Title

Item 1

Item 2

2

and my ViewModel for this View:
define(function (require)
{
function viewModel()
{
var self = this;
self.activate = activate;
function activate()
{
//window.kendoMobileApplication = new kendo.mobile.Application($("#kendoindex"), {
// skin: "flat"
//});
}
}
var vm = new viewModel();
return vm;
});
If I don't call kendoMobileApplication then the Kendo Mobile widgets are not rendered (it just shows "1 Title 2" with no CSS (ie. Kendo is not transforming them).
Everything seems to be keyed on where to call this: kendoMobileApplication in Durandal.
I followed the Durandal guidelines to give the Kendo bindings their own namespace: http://durandaljs.com/documentation/KendoUI/
UPDATE 1
I have created a simple Durandal 1.2 project which highlights the problem with Kendo Mobile and Durandal (and PhoneGap, but irrelevant here)), namely:
The only way to get the Mobile controls to render properly is to call kendo.mobile.Application. However this cannot find the right HTML element if it is put into a different file and loaded with Durandal.
I cannot find the right place to put this init code as it throws this error: “Uncaught Error: Your kendo mobile application element does not contain any direct child elements with data-role="view" attribute set. Make sure that you instantiate the mobile application using the correct container.”
kendoIndex.html is NOT Durandal but shows how it should be rendered if the kendo.mobile.Application is called correctly (Run this first to see what we are trying to achieve)
Shell : Has the Kendo Layout which does not get rendered.
Home View: Has the simple Kendo Mobile view – this does not get rendered.
About: A simple HTML page without Kendo
Source is on Guthub – if anyone can get Kendo Mobile working with Durandal I would appreciate it (or at least confirm if it is impossible (Telerik are no help at all on this)).
https://github.com/rodneyjoyce/DurandalKendoMobile/tree/master/App
Here's a working demo, which shows the correct start screen, but doesn't show the about view on navigation click. There's probably some extra work required to either remove kendo's or Durandal's router functionality.
http://rainerat.spirit.de/DurandalKendoMobile/App/#/
There were a couple of things required to make it work.
https://github.com/RainerAtSpirit/DurandalKendoMobile/commits/master
Kendo requires that the host element and all 'view' and 'layout' elements are in the DOM and that 'view' and 'layout' are child of the container element. After updating the view html to reflect this the right place to create the kendo app would be home.js
define(function( require ) {
var ctor = function() {
};
ctor.prototype.activate = function() {
console.log("Home activate");
};
ctor.prototype.viewAttached = function() {
var $kendoHost = $('#kendoHost');
// Workaround for height = 0.
// Additional code required to calculate on windows.resize
$kendoHost.height($(window).height());
this.app = new kendo.mobile.Application($kendoHost, {
skin: "flat"
});
console.log("Home viewAttached", this.app, $kendoHost.height());
};
return ctor;
});
Last kendo determines kendoHost height as 0, which prevents that the correctly rendered view show up. As a workaound I'm using $kendoHost.height($(window).height()); right before creating the app addresses.
As said in my comment above I'm still not sure if I'd recommend combining those two SPA frameworks as you might encounter more glitches like that while building your app. That said I'd love to hear about your progress :).
I've got everything working well except the drop area element doesn't hide after moving back off the page.
For example, if I drag something to the page, the drop area element shows, but then if I decide not to drop, it stays visible instead of hiding. It looks like in the demos on the site, it should hide again.
I've been studying this page: http://docs.fineuploader.com/branch/master/integrating/options/fineuploader.html#draganddrop-option-properties
There doesn't seem to be a callback for when there is no longer a file about to be dropped in the browser window. My code looks just like the examples, but has my own element id and class names, both of which work.
Any ideas?
Update - here is some code:

Drop files here

Upload Files

and here is the DND js:
var dragAndDropModule = new qq.DragAndDrop({
dropZoneElements: [document.getElementById('file-upload-drop-area')],
classes: {
dropActive: "dropActive"
},
callbacks: {
processingDroppedFiles: function () {
$('#file-upload-drop-area').hide();
},
processingDroppedFilesComplete: function(files) {
uploader.addFiles(files);
}
}
});
The issue was setting the hideDropZonesBeforeEnter is set to false by default and needed to be set to true.
Both the variable name and the help documentation make it seem it will only show the drop zone when a file is directly over it, but instead it hides and shows the dropdown when a file is over a compliant browser.
Excuse me for asking such a general question. I'm creating a website with Orchard CMS. The website's design and interactivity are critical requirements. I have a navigation menu which has a fixed size(900 px wide), but should be able to adjust as many menu items as possible (I do this manually by modifying the css). I've used a bit of jQuery to create some animations on mouse hovers etc. for the menu. Problem is that the css and jQuery parameters are hard coded. So if a user were to change to add a new menu item, they need to know in advance the number of menu items, and sub items, thus it's not very easy for the average user to customize it which the whole point of a CMS. What is the best way of keeping this menu interactive (with the jQuery animations), and such that the user can be able to add content pages to this menu (as they do with the default navigation menu in orchard) and also user friendly such that the non technical user need to have to mess around with the jQuery and CSS of the menu?
What is the best way of doing this, should I create a module (a navigation menu component?) which will dynamically set the css/jQuery values (width etc.)
UPDATE
Also, right now I have my HTML (my navigation menu, Unorderd List etc.) and its jQuery script reference embedded in my Layout.cshtml, and the style for the navigation menu is in my Site.css in my theme, is this considered bad practice?
I eventually got this done in orchard 1.5 by overriding the Menu.cshtml view, coding some logic to check the number of menu items and then rendering navigation menus with different ID's, based on the number of menu items they contained. I then added different CSS selectors in my Site.css, each with CSS suitable for navigation menus of various sizes. Here is what my Menu.cshtml ended up looking like (this goes in the Views folder of your currently active theme).
#
{
Script.Require("jQuery");
var tag = Tag(Model , "ul");
var items = (IList<dynamic>)Enumerable.Cast<dynamic>(Model.Items);
}
#{//if the menu contains 3 items, render a nav called 'ThreeItemNav'
if(items.Count == 3){

#tag.StartElement
#* see MenuItem shape template *#
#DisplayChildren(Model)
#tag.EndElement

}
else if(items.Count == 4){

#tag.StartElement
#* see MenuItem shape template *#
#DisplayChildren(Model)
#tag.EndElement

}
else if(items.Count == 5){

#tag.StartElement
#* see MenuItem shape template *#
#DisplayChildren(Model)
#tag.EndElement

}
}
//Include the jQuery to add animations to the navigation menu
#using (Script.Foot())
{

}
Note that you need to add CSS selectors in your theme for each nav element (ThreeItemNav, FourItemNav and FiveItemNav), for example in your current themes Site.css:
/*Style the Three Item Navigation menu*/
#ThreeItemNav li
{
background-color:#263A79;
}
#ThreeItemNav a:hover
{
border-right:1px solid #333;
border-left:1px solid #333;
}
#ThreeItemNav > ul li.current
{
background:#5882FA;
}
/*Style the Four Item Navigation menu*/
#FourItemNav li
{
background:#Purple;
}
#FourItemNav a:hover
{
background:Orange;
}
.........more styles
This certainly seems like a long winded approach, but it's the best I could think off so that I can maintain the functionality of the Orchard navigation menu and still style it with CSS and add jQuery animations. I figured an initial development cost was worth adding some powerful capabilities to the navigation menu in the long run. I'd love to hear any suggestions on how to do this in a neater way. Also I would definitely recommend using Orchard 1.5, since it has built in support for creating hierarchical navigation menus.
Checking out the inner workings of Menu.cshtml and MenuItem.cshtml views help a lot in trying to understand how the navigation menus are rendered in Orchard as well as inspecting how the default Theme Machine styles the navigation menu and its various levels/sub menus.
