xmltype character string buffer too small - oracle

In my stored procedure:
declare
v_xml xmltype;
begin
open v_cur for
Select xmlelement('el',xmlagg(xmlelement('el2'))) from table;
loop
fetch v_cur into v_xml; -- line where the error
*.....additional logic to parse v_xml*
end loop;

I'm getting a "character string buffer too small" error when the record to be fetched into v_xml has a length > 4000. Do you guys have any idea on how to go about this? Thanks

If you use xmlagg(), you'll have to add .getclobval() to the surrounding xmlelement() since the char limit is 4000 on xmlagg(). Obviously this means you'll be using clobs instead of xmltype but you have no choice, you'll have to cast back to xmltype later if needed. Example below:
declare
v_xml clob; -- Use CLOB
begin
open v_cur for
Select xmlelement("el",xmlagg(xmlelement("el2", tab_col))).getclobval() from table; -- add .getclobval()
loop
fetch v_cur into v_xml; -- line where the error
*.....additional logic to parse v_xml*

Maybe you're using old Oracle version? There have been some limitations in past. For me it works with 10 000 000 rows:

v_xml xmltype;
begin
select xmlelement("el", xmlagg(xmlelement("el2")))
into v_xml from (select 1 from dual connect by level <= 10000000);

Stored Procedure output result set

Apologies for the newbie question, I am writing an Oracle stored procedure that opens a cursor for a specific SQL, calculates some variables for each row returned by the cursor but the stored procedure should return as a result set these variables that have been calculated for each row returned by the cursor. I am a bit confused on how to do this - can anyone help?!
I did read some of it so far I have something like this (just a trimmed down example and not exact code) but just need to return v_calc and v_calc_res in a result set:-

If you want a procedure to return a reference cursor for the calling routine to consume the procedure itself cannot then consume it. Cursors, including reference cursors are 1 way, 1 time consumables. As for as the desired calculations, they can be added to select defined for the cursor. So:

This works a treat thank you very much. I now have a performance issue that maybe you could help with. When I open the cursor, I then run several other SELECT statements to retrieve values using the variables from the cursor (see below). I assume this is because the switch between PL/SQL and SQL engine. Would using table collections help? But as I see since I need different columns from different tables I would need to have several different collections, how could I output everything in one record?

How to build a dynamic PLSQL query to fetch records?

I am trying to create a stored procedure in Oracle and make a dynamic query work to get a bunch of records. I have read many examples but so far I can't get this to work unless I do this:

OPEN cur_typ FOR 'select * from complex_query';
--CLOSE cur_typ;
END;
And I am executing it this way:
var c refcursor;
execute GiveMeResultSet(null,null,null,null,null,null,:c);
print c;
This way I get the header names and the records from the query, but I am not closing the cursor that is fetching the results. If I close it then I get nothing at all. I guess leaving it open could cause some kind of memory leak problem at some point.
I have seen similar cases in Oracle documentation where they do something like this:

OPEN emp_cv FOR sql_stmt;
LOOP
FETCH emp_cv INTO emp_rec;
EXIT WHEN emp_cv%NOTFOUND;

But I have no clue what goes on the "process record" part of the code which would allow to get the whole set of records at the end, plus that my record has a complex structure that doesn't fit with a fixed set of fields as in a table.
Can you please show me the proper way to do this?.

Code of the Function which returns the ref cursor:

Now, in the next step I use this function to get data from v$parameter:

Oracle SQL Developer PL/SQL return an array

I've searched everywhere I can, but I could not find solution to this simple problem.
Situation:
I need to write a procedure where it takes a column name as the input and return all the distinct values present in that column as output. And then I have to use this procedure in some c# code.
In MS server, it is very easy as it will directly give the set of results unlike in PL/SQL.
Script I could write (which is not giving me the result I need):

You can also open a ref_cursor for a string value. Please take a look at this:

Your problem is caused by ambiguity about what PARAM is in the procedure's SELECT statement:
CREATE OR REPLACE

SELECT DISTINCT(PARAM) -- Ambiguity here
FROM my_table;
END;
Does PARAM refer to the table column or to the first parameter of the procedure? Oracle has assumed the parameter. You can explicitly say which like this:
SELECT DISTINCT(my_table.PARAM)
FROM my_table;
You could if appropriate (it probably isn't here) specify the procedure parameter instead:
SELECT DISTINCT(GetCol.PARAM)
FROM my_table;
Generally this is best avoided by:
always using table aliases in column references select statements, and
having a standard for parameter names that makes them less likely to clash e.g. P_PARAM.

PL/SQL Printing Cursor Elements

I tried several ways and looked lots of codes, but I couldn't do it. I have 2 tables

There are several spots(syntactical, semantical, and logical errors) in your code needed attention:
Minor one. The fetch c_clone_time into v_ay statement not terminated by semicolon ;.
You end while as any other loop statement with end loop; clause, not end while or end for as you might think.
To be able to print the contents of the cursor and successfully get out of the loop, you need to fetch from that cursor inside the loop as well, otherwise you are stuck with a never-ending loop:
