TFS 2013 Build: Which process retrieves the build process template? - visual-studio

I'm currently trying to set up a build machine for continuous integration.
Our TFS project collection resides on one machine (TFSServer), while we've installed the build service, controller and agents on a different machine (TFSBuild).
When I queue a build, I get the following error:
TF215097: An error occurred while initializing a build for build definition
Exception Message: One or more errors occurred. (type AggregateException)
Exception Stack Trace: at System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1.GetResultCore(Boolean waitCompletionNotification)
at Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Build.Client.FileContainerHelper.GetFile(TfsTeamProjectCollection projectCollection, String itemPath, Stream outputStream)
...
This seems to happen when the controller? tries to retrieve the build process template from the TFS server.
The inner exception is the following:
Exception Message: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8080 (type SocketException)
...
This is where I get confused, because a connection to localhost was attempted. I would've expected that the call be made to TFSServer instead.
Am I misunderstanding something? Or should I look in a different direction to solve my issue?
Edit: I have this feeling that the problem is caused because I had initially installed TFS Server on the build machine, and that some cached value points to the localhost server which used to exist, but not anymore...
Edit 2: I was not able to set up a controller on the build machine, for some reason it keeps looking for the build process template locally instead of the TFS server. So instead, I set up the controller on the TFS server, and the agents on the build machine and it seems to work fine.

Your build service might be still pointing to previous TFS server URL which was installed on the same build server. You can check this setting by launching TFS Administration Console and clicking Build configuration, then update it to point to the Team Project Collection configured on another box.

Web deploy failing, says DESTINATION NOT REACHABLE

I honestly don't know where to start apart from mentioning I've tried absolutely everything and I feel like banging my head against the wall!
I've configured my IIS according to the Microsoft docs and also added Web Deploy 3.6.
In my services I have the following running:
In my windows firewall I have opened port 8172:
In my IIS I have enabled remote connections:
Within IIS I have a Site which points to an empty folder, when I right click -> Deploy -> Configure Web Deploy publishing I get this:
Using this, I've set up a publish profile in VS like so:
But get this error why I try and 'Validate' the connection:
Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State
Error Web deployment task failed. (Could not connect to the remote computer ("server2021"). On the remote computer, make sure that Web Deploy is installed and that the required process ("Web Management Service") is started. Learn more at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_DESTINATION_NOT_REACHABLE.)
This error indicates that you cannot connect to the server. Make sure the service URL is correct, firewall and network settings on this computer and on the server computer are configured properly, and the appropriate services have been started on the server.
Error details:
Could not connect to the remote computer ("server2021"). On the remote computer, make sure that Web Deploy is installed and that the required process ("Web Management Service") is started. Learn more at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_DESTINATION_NOT_REACHABLE.
Unable to connect to the remote server
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond
I can't even remote to this server, I'm accessing it using TeamViewer.
I've viewed EventViewer logs on my local machine and it just says the same error which VS is spitting out.
I honestly don't know what I'm doing and I'd really really appreciate any help

VSTSNuGetPush.exe Proxy Settings

I have installed and configured an on-premise VSTS agent behind a corporate firewall. At first, the Nuget tasks were failing with connection related errors, but I fixed this using the HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY environment variables. However, the Nuget Push task ( VSTSNuGetPush.exe ) is still failing with a connection related error, and I need to establish exactly how it expects proxy information to be configured?
From the VSTS logs, the actual error message is:
2018-06-21T11:28:25.6945523Z System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: An error occurred while sending the request. ---> System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 13.107.6.175:443
I'm not sure if it complicates things, but the first step in the release is a Nuget Tool Installer of 4.6.2 to ensure semantic versioning 2.0 is supported.
Any help greatly appreciated!
There isn't any way to achieve this for now.
As a workaround, you can add a variable "NuGet.ForceNuGetForPush" in your build definition and queue the build with its value set to true. This will force the task to use nuget.exe to push the package which should read the proxy settings.

Visual Studio webdeploy fail even when connection is validated?

I am trying to deploy my webapp VS2015 RC1 DNX 451. Even when I validate connection and run publish I get error
Severity Code Description Project File
Error Error Code: ERROR_USER_UNAUTHORIZED
Error More Information: Connected to the remote computer ("crocus.arvixe.com") using the Web Management Service, but could not authorize. Make sure that you are using the correct user name and password, that the site you are connecting to exists, and that the credentials represent a user who has permissions to access the site. Learn more at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_USER_UNAUTHORIZED.
Error Error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
Googling the issue and even trying to view host forum just says make sure username and password is correct. I am getting nowhere trying various settings. Any ideas how to debug the issue?
I am using Arvixe.com as host.
You should contact Arvixe.com. They likely have some odd configuration on their servers but I would suspect they can help you resolve the issue.
Arvixe does not support Web Deploy anymore. Once they move you to their new servers Web Deploy won't be available to you. In Visual Studio you can set up a Publish with FTP instead of Web Deploy. If you're used to Web Deploy publishing your database changes, then you'll need to do those yourself with SQL scripts. Entity Frameworks has an option to produce a SQL script for a migration, so you can use that to publish your EF database changes.

ASP.NET MVC3 webdeploy: database deployment on production

I am using webdeploy to deploy my web application to IIS. I followed Microsoft's 12 part tutorial for this. I successfully deployed it on my local IIS.
I have to now deploy this to production and I am following the same steps. I am connected to the remote machine via VP. Form VS2010 publish profile the connection to the server was successful. But when I enter the DB connection string as
"Data Source=xxxx\SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=SWSS;Integrated Security=True"
and try to preview the Database, I get the following error:
Web deployment task failed. ((4/1/2013 9:18:42 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer.)
(4/1/2013 9:18:42 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Member 'ClassName' was not found.
The remote machine does not have TCP/IP enabled.
1. Is it safe to enable this in production machine?
2. If not, how to deploy DB, taking advantage of the dbdacfx?
Update 1:
Based on the comments below, I have changed my connection string as follows:
"Data Source=SWSS\SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=SWSS;User Id=xxxx;Password=xxxx;"
I created a sysadmin user in SQL server with SQL authentication rather than Windows authentication. Now the error is as follows:
Web deployment task failed. (Could not generate deployment script.
Unable to connect to target server.
Learn more at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_EXECUTING_METHOD.)
Update 2:
Using mixed mode authentication on SQL Server fixed my issue.

The Local SharePoint Server Is Not Available With A Twist

I am trying to deploy a web part on to our local Sharepoint Server. I am doing this through a remote login to the same server that our SharePoint site collection is on. However, I am getting "Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': Check that the local SharePoint server is not available." This is universal on any code I try to deploy to the Server.
Normally it would just be an issue of making me a DB_Owner on the content database. However, the other developers are not db_owners and they can deploy just fine.
I checked the log and found a entries that might be a clue to what is going on.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'domain\username'
CanUpgrade [SPConfigurationDatabase] failed.
IsBackwardsCompatible [SPConfigurationDatabase] failed.
I apologize for not posting the entire log, but company policy will not let me post the entire log.
So, does anyone know the cause of the error and how to fix it?
