ClearCase 8 works with Visual Studio 2005? - visual-studio

VS 2005 is no longer supported by MS, but I still have to use it on a ClearCase client v8.
VS 2005 is not mentioned on IBM website as a supported version for ClearCase 8. However I'm wondering if CC8 supports Visual Studio add-in? i.e. be able to checkin/checkout directly from Visual Studio IDE
Have you tried them both together?
Thank you

The IBM ClearCase requirements for the software part mentions:
Microsoft Visual Studio
2010 (8.0.1+)
2012 (8.0.1+)
2013 (8.0.1.2 2013 and future fix packs, 8.0.1.3)
So VS2005 is not supported (and I don't know of a third-part plugin which would be compatible to CC8 for VS2005).

Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

I have a software application called appTranslator that I have used for many years to manage language translations. It comes with a appTranslatorTESetup (Translator Edition) that i give our translators.
Today I supplied the download link to a user and he was not able to install it. The software was compiled in 2007 so I am assuming it was using the Visual C++ Redistributable 2005.
I looked at the official Microsoft page here. I can see:
Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019
Visual Studio 2013
Visual Studio 2012
Visual Studio 2010
Visual Studio 2008 SP1
Concerning version 2008 it states:
Visual Studio 2008 reached end of support on April 10, 2018. To aid the discovery of the latest downloads, the links are retained currently, but may be removed in the future.
After another search I came up with:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update
Is this considered the latest official available edition?
I can confirm that the link I provided is the latest 2005 redist download.
And when my user installed it they were able to run appTranslatorTE.
It may be worth keeping a copy of these redist downloads for legacy app support.
As of 16-04-2022 the link is valid:
I do have some VS2005 Redist downloads on my DropBox folder in some languages:
Not sure of the est way to make these available for all as an alternative download.

c/cpp project build in MS VS 2012 to be compatible with msvs 2008

I have created a c/cpp project in microsoft visual studio 2012, but the test machine has microsoft visual studio 2008, is there a way to tell visual studio 2012 to be compatible with 2008
No. You need to maintain two different project and solution files, one for each version. The only compatibility is between Vs2010 and VS2012 (and promised for future versions too).

What Visual Studio for .NET 1.0 web development?

I have a old web application developed in .NET 1.0. How can I do some minor changes in it? What Visual Studio do I need and how do I obtain it? Or can I develop in some other tool?
Thanks in advance!
It was called VisualStudio.NET, followed by Visual Studio 2003 (also known as version 7.1).
I don't think this is available anymore, unless you have a pro MSDN subscription or above.
Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 cannot be used for this, nor can mono-develop, but you might be able to use the version of SharpDevelop that supports 1.1.
You'd need Visual Studio 2002, it targeted .NET 1.0. That edition didn't last long, Visual Studio 2003 and .NET 1.1 quickly followed. Your project should have good odds opening and running properly on that edition. Odds get lower once you move to VS 2005/8 and .NET 2.0+
If you don't have VS2002 then you can obtain a license through an MSDN Library subscription. An auction site like Ebay is a cheaper alternative.
It was originally called Visual Studio.NET but later on also got referred to as Visual Studio 2002.
I looked it up and apparently you can still download it if you have an MSDN subscription.
You can use VS 2005, VS 2003, or VS 2002. I think the 2002 edition was called VS.NET.
From http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/20/vs-2008-multi-targeting-support.aspx
What about .NET 1.0 and 1.1?
Unfortunately the VS 2008 multi-targeting support only works with .NET 2.0, .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.5 - and not against older versions of the framework. The reason for this is that there were significant CLR engine changes between .NET 1.x and 2.x that make debugging very difficult to support. In the end the costing of the work to support that was so large and impacted so many parts of Visual Studio that we weren't able to add 1.1 support in this release.
VS 2008 does run side-by-side, though, with VS 2005, VS 2003, and VS 2002. So it is definitely possible to continue targeting .NET 1.1 projects using VS 2003 on the same machine as VS 2008.
Take a back up of your project.
Try to down load visual studio express 2008 version and open the project. you will have an option to convert. Once converted download the latest visual studio express and then convert into the latest version.
BTW Visual stuido express is FREE
Note:
Some of the methods may not be supported or droped. you need to recode them or replace them.

Does TFS 2010 support Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 connections?

I have been unable to locate any information on compatibility with Visual Studio 2003 or 2005. I currently have TFS 2010 working correctly with Visual Studio 2008, but we have some developers with Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 instances.
To use VS 2003 you'll have to install the MSSCCI provider.

"Kinda"
You'll need to install a Forward Compatibility Update and even then not all features of 2010 are supported. You can find out more on the Team Foundation Server blog here: http://blogs.msdn.com/team_foundation/pages/compat-matrix-for-2010-rtm-team-foundation-server-to-team-explorer-2008-and-2005.aspx

Is BizTalk 2006 supported in Visual Studio 2010

What I've googled so far is that the upcoming BizTalk 2009 R2 will be supported in VS 2010. Nothing is said however regarding support for the current BizTalk 2006 R2 version.
Anyone knows whether BizTalk 2006 is supported in Visual Studio 2010?
Hey user316221, here is a pretty good summary of the different versions of BizTalk and the required version of Visual Studio to develop for them. It's off a Microsoft employee's blog, so it should be legit:
http://blogs.msdn.com/amantaras/archive/2010/02/18/visual-studio-versions-used-by-each-release-of-biztalk.aspx
In short, the answer is no. BizTalk 2006 development is officially done with Visual Studio 2005. Visual Studio 2010 will be used for BizTalk 2010 development (previously named BizTalk 2009 R2).
Based on the wording in this recent ZDNet article, it doesn't sound like it.
BizTalk 2010 is a “minor” update that adds support for Visual Studio 2010
Judging by the term "adds", I would imagine that previous versions are not supported.
