i wannt to build a website with user management. User should be able to loggin with different accounts, f.e. GMail, Facebook, .....
When the user is logged in he/she can upload pictures with geolocation data and some text.
All uploaded geolocations should be visualized on something like google-maps.
Unregisterd users can view the map, but can not change the data or upload anything.
To solve this requirement i decided to use JOOMLA 2.5. with the "plugin_googlemap_J25_J3x.v3.2" plugin.
Everything i know about JOOMLA is what i learned the last two days.So i am very new to it.
Currently i am stuck, because i do not know how to save the user-data (pictures with geolocation data and some text) in JOOMLA.
I asked google! For more than an hour now! Could not find anything, related to that topic!
So my concrete questions are:
I suppose it is not possible to extend the JOOMLA user data database with the user-data, or?
If this is not possible, than i need a second database which holds the user-data, or?
Does anyone knows a tutorial which solves this problem?
I found someting for wordpress "http://codecanyon.net/item/privatecontent-user-data-addon/2399731"
but i have to check if this solves my requirements.
Thanks
Try this,
First make a list of your requirement then go to JED(Joomla extension Directory). search for related extensions.
Here from your requirement ,
You need a Customized Joomla Registration form
Social Media logins
And so on, so check the details of requirement and extension available, In any way you may need some customization on the Application then you can create some plugins for Users events.
Hope it helps..

I understand that this is a very broad question and could get flagged but I need inputs from experienced programmers and will ask it anyway. If there is another forum where I can post this question, please let me know.
Currently we manage all our application information in an Excel spreadsheet. At a high level it contains an app id, the server names that it is hosted on and the name of the environment. The Excel spreadsheet has become too large and I am looking to build a simple application for it.
Ideally, I would like to write this app on Windows as everyone uses Windows but dont know how to go about it in Windows. I then thought of using MySQL and PHP or Perl (CGI) to build this but thought of exploring something new. I read about Joomla and a few other CMS products which make it very easy to build websites but am not sure whether these allows me to pull information from a database.
I am seeking inputs on what would be a good way to way to build this application.
Use Joomla! CMS is a good choice and to pull data from database you may use webservice calls. So, you will able to create a CMS website using joomla and will able to pull data easily from database with the help of webservice.
You can get webservice support in joomla by installing component redCORE in joomla.

I think Joomla is a great option to handle big loads of information. If you already know PHP and don't need to reinvent the wheel, it's cool. The way of handling data in Joomla is using Components.
If you want to try, it would be as easy as installing a local copy of Joomla, building the field structure on component-creator.com installing it and importing the data inside the component using phpmyadmin.
I am building an app where two different users will edit the same document online, using only plain text. For this I am using the google-api-php-client-master hosted on github.
There are some examples, but I don't understand what I need to do to achieve my goal. The official documentation is deprecated because it reffers to a library that is not online, and all the classes have different names and ways of working.
I already got my credentials, and know how to get a list of the documents hosted on my drive account. But now I need to:
Create new document
Grant access to a non-google logged in user, just accessing the link
I don't expect anybody to give me a written solution, but to know where I have to start.
Thanks a lot for reading.
Ok im trying to do almost the same thing and this is what i know so far:
Most importantly please reffer to the docomentation: https://developers.google.com/drive/v2/reference
There is a written example on how to create new file!( section files->insert)
One way to make a gdrive file public is to share it to the web via the google api. Another way is to make revision of it( section revision->update) and then publish it( by setting "published" = true in the update request).
Being aware of your requirements i gues that the publishing wont really help you achieving your goal, because it is just a revision of the document from the past and not its current state.
I have this specific requirement that there is a list of names of people and a container for photo.
So when I click on specific user's name, his photo will appear in that container.
Is there any specific extension for this, so that admin can manage all the people names with their images ?
Thanks in advance.
If you are referring to an Avatar and using Joomla 2.5+ then I would recommend using Community Builder. I know it's a fairly big system, however it extends user profiles massively and might come in handy in the future.
If you're using Joomla 1.5 then you could always use DAvatar which is simply a plugin.
Hope this helps
You can user Community Builder as well but its very large & powerful extension & i think your interested to show only users image. If you have Joomla 2.5 then Profile Picture plugin will be most suitable for your case. Here is the link check it out. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/clients-a-communities/user-management/19702 . Hope it helps you.
Community builder is overkill just to get an image.
Here are a few options, depending on how often these are updated and whether you want to allow users to update these themselves.
Of course you can always make a category and an article for each team member, then use the links and urls to load the image in a standard location (override +use css in your template to do this). Use ACL to manage who can change this and to decide if you will allow users to manage.
Use the image field in the contact component, put all of the team members in the same category in contact. Put bio etc in miscellanous information. Only admins can manage this since it is edited back end only.
Use a profile plugin for com_user if you want users to be able to manage for themselves.
I have just migrated a lot of content from an old webpage to a 2.5 Joomla website. Almost every imported page contains a contact detail of one person from a 3-10 people pool.
I would like to define these contacts as Joomla contacts and just simply link to these profiles from every page.
How do I find or create a permalink to these user profiles?
I don't know of a native Joomla way of doing this, but due to the frequent ugliness of Joomla urls, we use YOURLS as an all-around link shortener on all of our sites. It comes with a front end that users are able to create their own links, etc., but we just use the mechanism, and some of the other features on the admin site of things - the mechanism itself is quite straightforward and easy to use once you create one to see what needs to be in the database for it to do it's magic.
I'm looking to build an integrated login and user management system between Joomla and eGroupware, ideally with Joomla as the driver. That is, users would log in to Joomla and have their credentials passed into eGroupware as well, so that they could follow a link over to eGW and not have to log in again. Also administrators could add new users to Joomla (or update existing user info) and have those changes reflected in eGW as well.
I tried out this component but all I could get it to do was to synchronize passwords between existing users of both systems (matching on their usernames). Documentation is in Portuguese so I might have missed something in translation. Also I've checked out JFusion but it as yet has nothing available for a bridge to eGW.
Any general advice on how to proceed is greatly appreciated. I have some Joomla experience but not much at writing extensions/modules; would it be easier for me to try to adapt JFusion or something like that or to write something myself?
The best approach would be to write two Joomla plugins: one of the authentication type that will create the session in eGW when someone logs into Joomla, then one of the user type that will respond to the onAfterStoreUser event and update the profile in eGW. This way, you won't be hacking either Joomla or eGW. There's a tutorial on creating authentication plugins for Joomla here: http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Creating_an_Authentication_Plugin_for_Joomla_1.5 Creating a user plugin will be a similar process, only you'll be responding to the onAfterStoreUser event.
