I have a client who's HASP driver will not start. When we go into services and attempt to start it manually it still will not start. It is set to start automatically. Additionally, and obviously, attempting to go to http://localhost:1741 in their web browser does not work.
Does anyone know why the HASP driver would fail to start?
The version in question is from 02/12/2004 (back when it was still Aladdin) although I'm not sure of the actual version number. We're also talking about a Windows 7 (32-bit) PC.
The cause of the problem was that the HASP driver will not work sometimes if you access the PC through a remote desktop connection.
You trying to use a very ancient version of the HASP driver. You need to get an actual version and try to install it. Official website with drivers located here: https://sentinelcustomer.safenet-inc.com/sentineldownloads/?s=&c=End+User&p=HASP4&o=Windows&t=all&l=all
If you will still get an error, then you need to check installation logs: C:\Windows\aksdrvsetup.log

I'm having a very strange problem with an application in windows 10. It consists of several .exe in the same computer communicating between them with sockets using system.net.sockets library.
The problem I have is that after installing Windows 10 in a new computer, install all windows updates and then installing that application, connection to sockets doesn't work correctly and the application fails. The strangest thing is that if you leave the computer alone for 1-2 days the applications starts working just fine. The same has happened after installing version 1803 update, it stops working and then works one or two days later.
Any idea of what can it be? Has anyone seen something similar?
It really seems to be related to the 1803 update you mentioned.
Symptoms:
Running an application from a network share will fail when creating a socket;
Copying the very same application to a local drive/path will work just fine, without any further modification.
We are also struggling with this while connecting to an Oracle database (both ODBC and ODP.NET) and it seems the issue has recently been acknowledged:
https://support.oracle.com/knowledge/Oracle%20Database%20Products/2399465_1.html
It also seems this is a recurrent Windows bug:
Win Socket Creation fails with Error code 10022 if non super user
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/3076a9cd-57a0-418d-8de1-07adc3b486bb/socket-fails-with-error-10022-when-application-is-run-from-certain-network-shares-on-vista-and?forum=wsk
Sorry, no effective solution at the time (other than copying the app binaries to a local folder). I'll update this answer once we get a better solution.
OK, looking a little further I found here in SO that this might be related to a SMBv1 network share, which describes the environment we had here (the network share was disabled because of another bug we faced - thanks MSFT).
Re-enabling SMBv2 / SMBv3 on the server solved the issue.

After Windows 10 update 1803 my program can't open a socket when running from network share
I'm trying to install Oracle BIEE 11g on my computer, but something wiered happend.
I've tried on a x86 computer with 2GB memory and a x64 computer with 4GB memory. Both of them are running Windows OS. I want to connect a MS-SQLSERVER database, and I've finished creating related DEV_ tables using RCU.
I followed the tutorial from the doc.oracle.com, but then I stopped at the 14th step, it says "设置数据库连接失败". I can continue install, but another error occurs, service obisch1 cannot start. I can open localhost:9704 after installation, but it will return a 500-error after I restart my computer.
I searched the internet, it says I should set my database source using "Net Manager" Tool, but I don't know how. And after install I got a database source using driver "MERANT OEM 5.3 32-BIT SQL Server Wired Protocol", but I can't make change to it, cause the system says can't find the driver...
I don't know what to do now... Anybody can help me? Thanks very much.
Well, I've kind of solved it.
I still don't know why my computer cannot find the odbc drier "MERANT OEM 5.3 32-BIT SQL Server Wired Protocol", which seems to be the reason why I can't connect to the database at the 14th step while I install OBIEE.
However, I add an odbc-connect through the system's function, I found it in the control panel.
On the other hand, the url http://localhost:7001/em and http://localhost:7001/analytics can be still accessed(after a long time, it can be accessed).
So, then I create a rpd file use my own odbc-connect, and it seems work fine.
Thanks everybody, anyway, and hopes can help
I can't start applications from a network share or drive. An error Appears saying that the application was unable to start 0xc0000006. If I copy the .exe on my desktop it works fine.
I tried to start Windows in safe mode and it works too.
My machine run on an HP laptop core i5 with Windows 7 SP1.
Any idea?
EDIT:
I found my problem: It's a bug that append sometimes with Kaspersky endpoint Security v.10. I just uninstall this version and install an older version (v.8). I hate Kaspersky...
Hope it will help someone!
0xc0000006 is an NTSTATUS code. Specifically it is STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR.
It is not uncommon to see these errors when you attempt to run an executable from a network volume. For whatever reason, if there is any even intermittent problem accessing the network volume, then you may see this error. When a module is loaded, the code is not physically loaded until it is needed. A memory mapped file is created, and when a particular page is needed, it is brought into physical memory on demand. If your network fails to meet this demand, your application stops with STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR.
The common ways to deal with this include:
Getting a more robust connection to your network volumes.
Copying the executable file to a local drive and running it from there.
Adding the IMAGE_FILE_NET_RUN_FROM_SWAP flag to your PE file options.
Thank you for your replies.
I solved the problem by uninstalling Kaspersky end point 10.
My colleges have the version 10 of kasperky and it works but not for me.
I will install an older version waiting for kaspersky v 11.
I have Informix version 11.50 installed on my Windows machine. According to this link, in order to start the server, it should be done through Windows services, look for Informix IDS - instance_name. It is supposed to start when Windows is started up, but for my case it is not, and it wasn't started. Thus I start it up manually by double clicking on it, and it prompt me an error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion.
May I know is there any solution in order to start up the local Informix DB on windows?
You will have to check what went wrong in Informix log. It is located in Informix dir and has server name with .log extension (for example c:\informix\ol_test.log). In this file there is information about running server like:
12:42:36 IBM Informix Dynamic Server Started.
Check this file and give us more details if you will not know how to solve reported problems.
Installation of Informix in Windows Vista has been failed. Due to the reason this Informix thing is not able to uninstall and not even allow me to configure a database. Even though I have manually delete the whole folder from Program Files, when trying to install a new copy of Informix, it prompt me the "Invalid ISV name" thing which I totally running out of clue with.
I found a post mention that Vista is not a good platform for Informix. Forget about Windows as a Server a.k.a. WAAS.
xD
Dear all, I am using gcvs-1.11 version. My cvs server in RHEL ,i have some RHEL machines and some Windows Xp machines as client.RHEL cvs clients are working fine but from windows i couldn't able to access cvs server. In installed WinCvs 2.0.24 in windows. when i am trying to login from windows machine it doesn't respond for my request.I am getting
"Unable to initialize the CVS process: The system cannot find the file specified. The CVS used is : cvs.exe" as result. How to setup WinCvs client to access gcvs. Thanks in advance
To resolve it I reinstalled CVSNT this time allowing the CVSNT Server to be installed. This fixed the problem although I now had to manually disable the unwanted CVSNT services.
(I have not tried. Please let us know whether it successes or not.)

Please try "Run as administrator". It works on Windows 7 when I experienced the same situation.
