Tune a query with ROWID and ORA_ROWSCN - performance

I have a following query which is taking lot of time as table is very big, this query also fetching pseudo columns ROWID and ORA_ROWSCN.
select ROWID, ORA_ROWSCN, t.C1, t.c2, t.c5, t.c7, t.c9 from tab t
I tried using hint ALL_ROWS and ran the stats as well but still not much of help. Please suggest. Thanks a lot in advance.

Rowid and ora_rowscn both reside inside the data block.
Rowid is composed of:
The data object number of the object
The data block in the datafile in which the row resides
The position of the row in the data block (first row is 0)
The datafile in which the row resides (first file is 1). The file number is relative to the tablespace.
The ora_rowscn gives you the last change number for the block in which the row resides (not the row itself, be aware of that).
None of which iscontributing significantly to the total time to retrieve all the rows from big table (unless you were using scn_to_timestamp function).
the problem here is that wou have no WHERE clause and it does take a lot of time to retrieve all the rows from a big table. If you truly need all the rows, isn't there any column you can use to chop the query into many smaller queries, sou you could start getting the results faster, maybe even paralelyze the whole process (a date column, or an ID column you could use a mod on the where clause, something like that)?

Deletion is slow in oracle DB

We have a table that doesn't have much data. The table has 3 partitions and we are deleting data in one partition only.
delete from table AB partition(A) where id=value;
here id has an index also but still delete is slow.
The datatype of id is varchar2 and the value is number.
Please help me to understand why the delete statement is slow.
I don't think the index has much use in this case. It has to evaluate every single row in the partition to see if it matches id=value. Typically this will be a full table scan and no index will be used. It totally depends on the number of rows in the partition how long it will take. But maybe i did not understand the question properly. I presumed "value" is a column in the same table, like ID.

MERGE INTO Performance as table grows

This is a general question about the Oracle MERGE INTO statement with a particular scenario, on Oracle RDBMS 12c.
Daily data will be loaded to StagingTableA - about 10m rows.
This will be MERGEd INTO TableA.
TableA will vary between 0 to 10m rows (matcing StagingTableA).
There may be times when TableA will be pruned/emptied and left with 0 rows.
Clearly, when TableA is empty, a straight INSERT will do the job, but the procedure has been written to use a MERGE INTO method to handle all scenarios.
The MERGE .. MATCH is on a indexed column.
My question is an uncertainty about how the MERGE handles the MATCH in circumstances where TableA will start empty, and then grow hugely during the MERGE execution. The MATCH on indexed columns will use a FTS as the stats will show the table has 0 rows.
At some point during the MERGE transaction, this will become inefficient.
Is the MERGE statement clever enough to detect this and change the execution plan, and start using the index instead of the FTS?
If this was done the old way with CURSOR, UPDATE and INSERT then we could potentially introduce a ANALYZE at a appropriate point (say after 50,000 processed) on the TableA to switch to a optimal plan.
I haven't been able to find any documentation dealing with this specific question.
Hopefully you've got a UNIQUE index on that table, which is based on the incoming data. If I was you, rather than using a simple MERGE I'd:
Mark all indexes on the table as UNUSABLE, except for the unique index.
INSERT all records
Catch the DUPLICATE VALUE ON INDEX exception at the time of INSERT and issue the appropriate UPDATE.
DELETE processed rows from the input record.
Commit every N records (1000? 10000? 100000? Your choice...), calling DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS for the table you've inserted into after each COMMIT.

Trying to figure out max length of Rowid in Oracle

As per my design I want to fetch rowid as in
select rowid r from table_name;
into a C variable. I was wondering what is the max size / length in characters of the rowid.
Currently in one of the biggest tables in my DB we have the max length as 18 and its 18 throughout the table for rowid.

Currently the below block of code is iterated and used for multiple tables hence in-order to make the code flexible without introducing the need of defining every table's PK in the query we use ROWID.
select rowid from table_name ... where ....;
delete from table_name where rowid = selectedrowid;
I think as the rowid is picked and used then and there without storing it for future, it is safe to use in this particular scenario.

I'd say no. This could be safe if for instance the application stores ROWID temporarily(say generating a list of select-able items, each identified with ROWID, but the list is routinely regenerated and not stored). But if ROWID is used in any persistent way it's not safe.
A physical ROWID has a fixed size in a given Oracle version, it does not depend on the number of rows in a table. It consists of the number of the datafile, the number of the block within this file, and the number of the row within this block. Therefore it is unique in the whole database and allows direct access to the block and row without any further lookup.
As things in the IT world continue to grow, it is safe to assume that the format will change in future.
Besides volume there are also structural changes, like the advent of transportable tablespaces, which made it necessary to store the object number (= internal number of the table/partition/subpartion) inside the ROWID.
Or the advent of Index organized tables (mentioned by #ibre5041), which look like a table, but are in reality just an index without such a physical address (because things are moving constantly in an index). This made it necessary to introduce UROWIDs which can store physical and index-based ROWIDs.
Please be aware that a ROWID can change, for instance if the row moves from one table partition to another one, or if the table is defragmented to fill the holes left by many DELETEs.
According documentation ROWID has a length of 10 Byte:
Rowids of Row Pieces
A rowid is effectively a 10-byte physical address of a row.
Every row in a heap-organized table has a rowid unique to this table
that corresponds to the physical address of a row piece. For table
clusters, rows in different tables that are in the same data block can
have the same rowid.

In general you could use the ROWID in your application, provided the affected rows are locked!
Thus your statement may look like this:
CURSOR ... IS
select rowid from table_name ... where .... FOR UPDATE;
delete from table_name where rowid = selectedrowid;
see SELECT FOR UPDATE and FOR UPDATE Cursors
Oracle even provides a shortcut. Instead of where rowid = selectedrowid you can use WHERE CURRENT OF ...

An index is unlikely to help with this example: a full table scan will probably be the quickest solution. Why? Your table has 3 columns. The best index would be one that avoided looking in the table at all e.g.
create index ai on a (code, name, id);
But that needs to contain all the same data as the table plus a ROWID for each table row - so it is going to be bigger than the table and take longer to scan. You could try putting the columns in the index with the least selective first and using compression:
create index ai on a (code, name, id) compress;
Now the index may be smaller than the table - it depends on how selective the code and name columns are. If it is small enough, the optimizer might decide to use it instead of the table. It still contains all the IDs and ROWIDs so the reduction in size probably won't be dramatic. In the test case I set up the compressed index is about half the size of the table, yet Explain Plan shows the query has a higher cost if I use a hint to force it to use the index - maybe due to overheads of compression, I don't know.
You could look into Oracle Text and the CONTAINS expression - but then you would be writing a different query, not using LIKE.

Deleting duplicate rows in oracle

Shouldn't the following query work fine for deleting duplicate rows in oracle
SQL> delete from sessions o
where 1<=(select count(*)
from sessions i
where i.id!=o.id
and o.data=i.data);
It seems to delete all the duplication rows!! (I wish to keep 1 tough)
Your statement doesn't work because your table has at least one row where two different ID's share the same values for DATA.
Although your intent may be to look for differing values of DATA ID by ID, what your SQL is saying is in fact set-based: "Look at my table as a whole. If there are any rows in the table such that the DATA is the same but the ID's are different (i.e., that inner COUNT(*) is anything greater than 0), then DELETE every row in the table."
You may be attempting specific, row-based logic, but your statement is big-picture (set-based). There's nothing in it to single out duplicate rows, as there is in the solution Ollie has linked to, for example.
