Is it possible to customize kendo grid Header?
Say for example: the original header below should be customized as the 2nd header.
Original Header
Name | Sex | Range | Stan. | Range | Stan.
Expected output (customized header)
| | General Reasoning | Verbal Reasoning
Name | Sex | Range | Stan. | Range | Stan.
Is that possible?
Here is the complete Kendo codes:
var grid = $("#grid").kendoGrid({
dataSource: {
data: viewModel.SampleData,
schema: {
model: {
fields: {
Name: { type: "string" },
Sex: { type: "string" },
GenReasoningRange: { type: "string" },
GenReasoningStan: { type: "number" },
VerbalReasoningRange: { type: "string" },
VerbalReasoningStan: { type: "number" }
}
}
},
pageSize: 20
},
height: 550,
scrollable: true,
sortable: true,
filterable: false,
columns: [
{ field: "Name", title: "Name", width: "20px"},
{ field: "Sex", title: "Sex", width: "4px" },
{ field: "GenReasoningRange", title: "Range", width: "5px" },
{ field: "GenReasoningStan", title: "Stan.", width: "4px" },
{ field: "VerbalReasoningRange", title: "Range", width: "5px" },
{ field: "VerbalReasoningStan", title: "Stan.", width: "4px" }
]
});
Thanks
You can access the grid's header element via its thead field at any time and do whatever you want.
In your case, you'd want to insert another header row above the existing one:
grid.thead.prepend(
"<tr>" +
"<th colspan='2'></th>" +
"<th colspan='2'>General Reasoning</th>" +
"<th colspan='2'>Verbal Reasoning</th>" +
"</tr>");

I have a grid with filter row as this examble:
http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/grid/filter-row
Because my grid have many columns, so i must to set width of input filter, i used filterable template to do that:
{
field: "CustomerName",
title: "CustomerName",
filterable: {
cell: {
template: function (input) {
input.width("60%");
input.keydown(preventPost);
}
}
}
},
And on date columns:
{
field: "DueDate",
title: "Modified",
format: "{0:MM-dd-yyyy}",
filterable: {
cell: {
template: function (input) {
input.width("60%");
input.keydown(preventPost);
}
}
}
},
It ok with number and string columns, but date columns occur problem.
Before i set width for columns, it show datepicker on date columns.
After i set width for columns, it show textbox on date columns.
So how to resolve it?
Simply define the width of the column and let Kendo UI compute it.
{
field: "OrderDate",
title: "Order Date",
format: "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}",
width: 150
}
Check the following code that is the example that you refer to in your post.

I have grid with locked (frozen) column and grouping like this:
demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/grid/frozen-columns
But I have only one frozen column and small width.
And when I group by column with long string values (eg ship address), these group values in group header displayed in multiple lines.
Screen
How show group header in one line even if first part of grid (with locked columns) has small width?

need help about adding a new recort in a kendo grid.
I have a grid with a foreign key field. The grid is populated by a json data with subobject, returned from a webmethod. it looks like this:
[
{
"classe_iva": {
"id_classe_iva": 5,
"desc_classe_iva": "Esente",
"note_classe_iva": null
},
"id_iva": 37,
"desc_iva": "bbb",
"codice_iva": "bbb",
"imposta": 2,
"indetr": 2,
"id_classe_iva": 5,
"note": "dddddfsf",
"predefinito": false,
"id_company": 4
},
{
"classe_iva": {
"id_classe_iva": 6,
"desc_classe_iva": "Escluso",
"note_classe_iva": null
},
"id_iva": 52,
"desc_iva": "o",
"codice_iva": "jj",
"imposta": 1,
"indetr": 1,
"id_classe_iva": 6,
"note": "l",
"predefinito": false,
"id_company": 4
}
]
and this is the schema.model used in the kendo datasource:
model = {
id: "id_iva",
fields: {
id_iva: { type: "string", editable: false },
desc_iva: { type: "string" },
codice_iva: { type: "string" },
imposta: { type: "number" },
indetr: { type: "number" },
id_classe_iva: {type: "string"},
note: { type: "string" },
predefinito: { type: "boolean" },
id_company: { type: "number" }
}
}
.. and below is shown the grid columns format:
toolbar = [{
name: "create",
text: "Aggiungi nuova aliquota IVA"
}];
columns = [
{ field: "desc_iva", title: "Descrizione", width: 45 },
{ field: "codice_iva", title: "Codice", width: 45 },
{ field: "imposta", title: "Imposta", width: 45 },
{ field: "indetr", title: "Indetr", width: 45 },
{ field: "classe_iva.desc_classe_iva", title: "Classe IVA", width: 200, editor: categoryDropDownEditor, template: "#= classe_iva ? classe_iva.desc_classe_iva : 1 #", defaultValue: { id_classe_iva: 1, desc_classe_iva: "Acq. Intra-UE" } },
{ field: "note", title: "Note", width: 45 },
{
command: [{
name: "destroy",
text: "Elimina",
confirmation: "Sei sicuro di voler eliminare questa voce?"
} ,
{
name: "edit",
text: {
edit: "Modifica",
update: "Aggiorna",
cancel: "Cancella"
}
}
]
}
];
Theese settings works fine when i edit a row, and the grid shows the right content into the combobox field.
The problem is when i click on the "add new record" button, because when it tries to add a new row, it doesn't find the subobjects field "classe_iva".
if i change the column.field into this
{ field: "id_classe_iva", title: "Classe IVA", width: 200, editor: categoryDropDownEditor, template: "#= id_classe_iva ? id_classe_iva : 1 #", defaultValue: { id_classe_iva: 1, desc_classe_iva: "Acq. Intra-UE" } },
{ field: "note", title: "Note", width: 45 }
the add button works fine, but when the grid is loaded, the column id_classe_iva doesn't shows me the classe_iva.desc_classe_iva field...
how can i fix the issue??^?
thanks in advance.
to fix this issue, i used a workaround:
the error was thrown because, in the declaration of the field.template there where a not declared variable (classe_iva):
{ field: "id_classe_iva", title: "Classe IVA", width: 200, editor: categoryDropDownEditor, template: "#= classe_iva ? classe_iva.desc_classe_iva : 1 #", defaultValue: { id_classe_iva: 1, desc_classe_iva: "Acq. Intra-UE" } },
then, i declared a global variable
var classe_iva;
in this way, when i add a new record, the code doesn't throw any errors, and by the ternary if, the default value is set.
hope it will help someone.
I tried the following to add the placeholder attribute to the input field using the following code,
dataSource: {
...
schema: {
data: "storeEmployeeData",
total: "storeEmployeeDataCount",
model: {
id: "ID",
fields: {
Id: { type: "number", editable: false, nullable: true },
FirstName: { type: "string", nullable: true, editable: true, validation: { required: false } },
MiddleName: { type: "string", nullable: true, editable: true, validation: { required: false } },
LastName: { type: "string", nullable: true, editable: true, validation: { required: false } },
**Email: { type: "string", nullable: true, editable: true, placeholder: "(optional)", validation: { email: true, required: false } }
}
}
},
...
}
Also tried the following,
columns: [
{ field: "FirstName", title: "First Name", type: "string", width: "150px" },
{ field: "MiddleName", title: "Middle Name", type: "string", width: "150px" },
{ field: "LastName", title: "Last Name", type: "string", width: "150px" },
{ field: "Email", title: "Email", type: "string", width: "250px", sortable: false, placeholder: "(optional)" },
{ command: ["edit", "destroy"], title: " ", width: "200px" }
],
None of them yielded the result I was looking for i.e., having placeholder attribute placeholder="(optional)" added to the input field.
This is part of HTML5, if this feature already exists in Kendo UI Grid is it also compatible with IE 7 and IE 8 ?
Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated!
There is no placeholder option in the Kendo UI Model documentation; therefore, it is not supported directly. Reference: http://docs.kendoui.com/api/framework/model#configuration-Example. Maybe you meant to use defaultValue?
Alternatively, you could use the attributes option for the Kendo UI Grid configuration. Reference: http://docs.kendoui.com/api/web/grid#configuration-columns.attributes.
The placeholder attribute is only supported in IE 10 and above.
Update: (due to comments)
To give you an example, in order to add the placeholder attribute to the input element, you could use the editor option on the column.
columns: [
{ field: "Email", title: "Email", width: 250, sortable: false,
editor: function (container, options) {
var input = $("<input/>");
input.attr("name", options.field);
input.attr("placeholder", "(optional)");
input.appendTo(container);
}
}
]
If your looking for a place holder for when there are no records then,
<div id="grid"></div>
<script>
$("#grid").kendoGrid({
columns: [
{ field: "name" },
{ field: "age" }
],
noRecords: true,
dataSource: []
});
</script>
or
<div id="grid"></div>
<script>
$("#grid").kendoGrid({
columns: [
{ field: "name" },
{ field: "age" }
],
pageable: true,
noRecords: {
template: "No data available on current page. Current page is: #=this.dataSource.page()#"
},
dataSource: {
data: [{name: "John", age: 29}],
page: 2,
pageSize: 10
}
});
</script>

The problem is when I try to filter by Country or State or City I got an error
TypeError: "".toLowerCase is not a function
I tried to change the type of Country to string, I use comobox, so the values were undefined. I also tried to change the type to Object, the values displayed correctly but I couldn't filter. I got the same error( toLowerCase)
How can I fix this ??
My grid is very similar this example
and here is the jsFiddle . I've just added the filter. and I still get previous error
I want to filter on the Category, any help ??
This is how you filter a dataSource Kendo dataSource , filter
So get the dataSource of your grid,
var gridDatasource = $("#address-grid").data('kendoGrid').dataSource;
and filter it like this example.
gridDatasource.filter({ ... });
If you provide a working jsFiddle, you may get a more specific answer.
Specific answer:
You added the filter, so for Category it didn't work because as I said, it is an observable, not a filed you can filter as a string.
So you must specify better your filter for this column, like this:
field: "Category",
title: "Category",
width: "160px",
editor: categoryDropDownEditor,
template: "#=Category.CategoryName#",
filterable: {
extra: false,
field:"Category.CategoryName",
operators: {
string: {
startswith: "Starts with",
eq: "Is equal to",
neq: "Is not equal to"
}
}
}
see this jsFiddle -- > http://jsfiddle.net/blackjim/Sbb5Z/463/
