assemble.io - context of yaml data in partials not working - yaml

I have an issue with YAML rendering content within partials using Assemble
Here is my breakdown:
layout/deafualt.hbs
<body>
{{pagetitle}} <!-- THIS WILL RENDER 'HELLO WORLD' FINE -->
<header role="banner">
{{> _header }}
</header>
<main role="main">
{{> body }}
</main>
<footer role="contentinfo">
{{> _footer }}
</footer>
</body>
pages/car.hbs
---
pagetitle: "HELLO WORLD"
---
{{#car }}
{{> banner }}
{{> content }}
{{> explore }}
{{> feature }}
{{> social }}
{{/car }}
modules/content.hbs
<h1>{{pagetitle}}</h1> <!-- THIS ***WON'T*** RENDER 'HELLO WORLD'-->
<h>Im a sub-heading</h2>
I imagine that its something to do with the context but I've tried various permutations to no avail.
Any pointers greatly appreciated.
A.

This is a handlebars issue more than Assemble. With handlebars it gets tricky when you use partials in nested blocks.
Given your example, in content.hbs try doing {{car.pagetitle}} since you're inside the {{#car}}...{{/car}} block.

Jekyll - Plugins don't work when sorting posts

I have a plugin called jekyll-spaceship in Jekyll - It helps me to use video feature (not available in Markdown): ! [Video] (https://vimeo.com/633912445?height=500)
Everything works perfectly on post page.
But in home page, I am listing posts like this:
<div id="main" class="site-main">
<div id="primary" class="content-area">
<div id="content" class="site-content" role="main">
{% for post in paginator.posts %}
<header class="entry-header">
<h1 class="entry-title">
{{post.title}}
</h1>
</header>
<div class="entry-content">{{ post.content }}</div>
{% endfor %}
</div></div>
</div>
And, this event turns it into an image. So I can't use the plugin feature. I think {% for post in paginator.posts %} turns it into normal Markdown.
How can I fix this problem?
By the way, I am using jekyll-paginate-v2 for paginating but doesn't matter, its the same like normal Jekyll
I think this issue has been addressed and fixed, you can refer to spaceship with paginate-v2, and please try again with the latest version.

Laravel Components: default content in {{ slots }}

In old-style Laravel blade templated we used to use #section('section-name') in the following way:
{{-- h1para.blade.php --}}
<h1>
#section('heading')
Heading from Template
#endsection
</h1>
<p>
#yield('details')
</p>
And then extend that template with:
{{-- content.blade.php --}}
#extends('h1para')
#section('details')
Content from content page
#endsection
In the above, my rendered HTML output would look like the following, because the "missing" 'heading' section in the extending file means that we default back to the content in the template:
<h1>Heading from Template</h1>
<p>Content from content page</p>
But in the new components way of doing things, I do:
{{-- .../components/h1para.blade.php --}}
<h1>{{ $heading }}</h1>
<p>{{ $slot }}</p>
In case you haven't gathered, the question is: how do I set a default value for a slot's contents, such that if it isn't supplied in the extending component/template, it falls back to that default?
(I've done my searches, but haven't been able to find the same question asked before)
EDIT:
I should add that I've seen the solution (in the Laravel documentation):
<h1>{{ $heading ?? 'Default Heading Here' }}</h1>
But this seems only to be appropriate if the default value is a short easy to manage string. If the default is a long stream of HTML, then it wouldn't work for my needs.
EDIT 2:
Just to reiterate: the whole point of the question is that the default content could be a long stream of HTML. Solving the problem by passing in a string (be that formatted as HTML or not) wouldn't work for my real-world needs.
I think the solution is this:
{{-- .../component/template.blade.php --}}
<div>
#if (isset($heading))
{{ $heading }}
#else
<h1>Default Heading<span class="subhead">default subheadin and lots of other html content</span></h1>
#endif
<p>{{ $slot }}</p>
</div>
It's not super elegant, but I think it's the only solution. Anyone else have a better answer, I'd love to hear it.
If you pass data like:
<x-h1para header="<span>Header content</span>">
<div>Default slot content here</div>
</x-h1para>
You can display in your component like:
<div>
<h1>{!! $heading ?? 'Default Heading Here' !!}</h1>
{{ $slot }}
</div>

Hugo: How can I display an image in my post list

I am trying to display an image in my post list.
In order to achieve that I added some tags in my post.md:
---
title: "Hello"
header_image: /images/blog/2019/water.jpg
images: /images/blog/2019/water.jpg
resources:
src: /images/blog/2019/water.jpg
title: "The image I want"
---
Then I edited list.html and tried different things:
{{ define "main" }}
<div class="archive animated fadeInDown">
<ul class="list-with-title">
<div class="listing-title">{{.Title}}</div>
{{ range .Pages }}
<ul class="listing">
<div class="listing-item">
<div class="listing-post">{{ .Title }}
{{ with .Resources.ByType "image" }}
<div class="Image">
{{ range . }}
<img src="{{ .RelPermalink }}">
{{ end }}
</div>
{{ end }}
{{ $.Param "header_image" }}
-- {{ range .Page.Resources }}
THERE IS ONE ITEM => NOT WORKING
{{ end }} <<
<div class="post-time"><span class="date">{{.Date.Format "Jan 2" }}</span></div>
</div>
</div>
</ul>
{{ end }}
</div>
{{ end }}
But when I try to display Resources, I always get [] (nothing)
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I don't think your {{ $.Param "header_image" }} is working, either.
The way to access your custom, non-standard variables on pages, as well as sites, is through the .Params object, e.g. .Params.header_image. Note the small letter at the beginning, as opposed to capital letters for built-in params.
Page-level params on the Hugo Docs
Custom page params
To access
---
header_image: /images/blog/2019/water.jpg
---
you can use this in your page template.
{{ .Params.header_image }}
Resources
Page resources on Hugo Docs
It seems that resources is actually an array of objects, and with yaml, you should actually have something like this (note the dash):
resources:
- src: /images/blog/2019/water.jpg
title: "The image I want"
Also mind that this feature seems to only be available only for page bundles
Debugging
You can use {{ printf "%#v" .Resources }} for debugging.

Jekyll render partial inside markdown

We are attempting to move sites to Jekyll, and have a BS4 theme. In order to make it user friendly to the content managers, I've placed the following in my page layout:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
{{ content }}
</div>
</div>
</div>
However, I'd like to create a liquid tag or filter to allow for full-width images to be injected into the middle of the page. This would close the three container divs above the image, write out the image, and the create new divs below, and continue to write the markdown file. i.e.
{% fullwidth xenia-map.png %}
would produce something like this in the middle of the page:
</div>
</div>
</div>
<img src="input.jpg" class="img-responsive" />
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
I have been able to create a filter and a tag (class) that will do 80%, however neither will write out closing tags at the beginning of the output. I just get the <img> tag.
Here's my class:
class FullWidth < Liquid::Tag
def initialize(tag_name, image, tokens)
super
#image = image.strip
end
def render(context)
"</div></div></div><img src='uploads/#{#image}' class='img-responsive'>"
end
end
Liquid::Template.register_tag('fw', FullWidth)
Your problem looks like an escaping issue.
Although I like the simplicity of your solution, I would consider two alternatives. The first ('include' solution) because it is easier to implement (anyone can make that one work). The second one ('javascript' solution) because it will allow your content editors to use a regular/graphical markdown editor and it will keep your markdown clean and reusable for other purposes.
'Include' solution
Just put an include in your markdown/html:
{% include fullwidth.html image="/uploads/xenia-map.png" %}
... and use this 'fullwidth.html':
</div>
</div>
</div>
<img src="{{ include.image }}" class="img-responsive" />
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
'Javascript' solution
Use this markdown (or let a regular/graphical markdown editor generate this):
![Xenia map](/uploads/xenia-map.png){: .fullwidth}
... and use this jQuery:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('img.fullwidth').each(function() {
var img = $(this).parent().html();
$(this).unwrap();
document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replace(img,
'</div></div></div>'+img+'<div class="container"><div class="row"><div class="col-md-12">');;
});
});

Why won't datepicker work in a twig in userfrosting?

Bit of a beginner here and this issue has been causing me a headache for over a day. I'm using userfrosting as a framework, with the usual twig files for the web pages.
I'm trying to include a datepicker (bootstrap-datepicker.js hasn't worked, neither is the current iteration using jquery-ui) in a form in a twig - but no matter what I do, I can't get it to work!
Here's the basic setup:
{% block head %}
{{ parent() }}
<script src="{{site.uri.js}}/jquery-1.11.2.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
<script src="{{site.uri.js}}/custom.js" ></script>
{% endblock %}
{% block content %}
.... {{boring stuff missed out}}
<form class="form-inline" role="form">
.... {{boring stuff missed out}}
<div class="form-group row">
<label for="datepicker" class="col-sm-3 form-control-label">Subject Date:</label>
<div class="col-sm-6">
<input type="date" class="form-control" id="datepicker" />
</div>
</div>
.... {{boring stuff missed out}}
</form>
.... {{boring stuff missed out}}
{% endblock %}
{% block javascripts %}
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#datepicker").datepicker();
});
</script>
{% endblock %}
The box is on the page, you can type a date into it etc, but nothing appears when you click on it (there should be a calendar appearing.)
Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a total loss. I've tried various versions, locally and (as you can see, currently) on a CDN, but nothing works. I'm sure it's probably something basic as I'm not an experienced web dev or anything, but any advice or working examples would be gratefully received!
Uh! facepalm
Well, after some digging and serious consideration of the inspector output (thanks CTRL-SHIFT-I!) it turns out to be a simple case of script loading order and multiple scripts being loaded.
I didn't realise twig loads a whole bucketload of scripts on top of what I ask it to load in the template I was creating. Only after seeing the inspector output for the page did I see that I was trying to load two different versions of jQuery and my own custom script was being loaded out of order - I was loading them here:
{% block head %}
{{ parent() }}
<script src="https://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
<script src="{{site.uri.js}}/custom.js" ></script>
{% endblock %}
that block should be reserved for stylesheets. Instead, I should be loading them here:
{% block page_scripts %}
<script src="https://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
<script src="{{site.uri.js}}/custom.js"></script>
{% endblock %}
... so that they are loaded AFTER all the default Bootstrap and userfrosting scripts.
https://jqueryui.com/datepicker/ uses type="text" for the input field. When I google the matter it seems that type="date" has at least previously caused problems.
In short: I would try changing type="date" to type="text".
