I'm migrating a VC++ 06 project to Visual Studio 2012.
I got an error when I compile.
1> Copying contents file...
1> the specified file is not found
1> Making help include file...
1> Making help file...
1> The system cannot find the file hcw.
1>hlp\MyProject.hpj(1): error :
1> the specified file is not found
I removed the folder hlp (it got the .hpj file), the Makefile (.mak) but it still want to reach it.
Why? How can I build my project without HTML Help Project?
I follow this but it doesn't work.
I found the solution.
I edit the .dsp file (VC++ 6 Project) and remove the HTML Help lines declaration.
When I add an existing project from the .dsp, it automatically load that configuration. Even if I deleted the Makefile or the hlp folder.
you should open the .dsw file with new version visual studio, before building the project, open the vxcproj and find the custom-build for help (search the "hjp" word)
delete this part from vxcproj and compile the Project.

I'm attempting to migrate a solution file from VS 2005 to VS 2013. The majority of the projects within the solutions rebuilt just fine.
However, some of the projects are coming up with the error:
error LINK1104: cannot open file 'mfc80.lib'
I have searched for mfc80.lib on my computer and it does not exist.
I cannot follow the solution from here fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'gdi32.lib' because the file does not exist, therefore I cannot add its path in "Additional Library Directories".
I have:
Deleted all the .obj and .lib files for the problematic project
Ensured Visual C++ MFC MBCS Library for Visual Studio 2013 is installed
Followed Error LNK1104 cannot open file ';.obj'
What else do I need to check?

It appears your project is attempting to include mfc80.lib explicitly. This is the version that VS2005 used; you need mfc120.lib.
Also, double-check that none of your source has a declaration like the following: #define _MFC_FILENAME_VER
I have installed VS2013 on my computer about 2 years ago(and removed VS2010 I guess) and today I tried to open my old VS2010 project (MV1.sln) that I used to work with about 5 years ago.
When I tried to open it, it just says "more than one project in the solution was not loaded correctly. refer to the output window"(translated from Korean). The output window says
D:\My_Path\MV1\MV1.vcxproj : error : can't read project file "MV1.vcxproj"
D:\My_Path\MV1\MV1.vcxproj(34,5): can't find imported project "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\V120\BuildCustomizations\CUDA 4.0.props". Check if the path specified in <import> declaration is correct and file exists in the disk.
So I checked the MV1.vcxproj file's line 34 which reads
<Import Project="$(VCTargetsPath)\BuildCustomizations\CUDA 4.0.props" />
which seems to be correct path because the value $(VCTargetsPath) is being used before line 34 in the same file and I can easily guess it points to C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild (I can see Microsoft.Cpp.props folder and BuildCustomizations\CUDA 4.0.props file referred to in the .vcxproj file)
I had CUDA4.0.props file which specifies include path and library path for CUDA4.0 under C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0 (I kept those files there at that time) but copied it to the location specified in vcxproj file to make it appear there.
I found some similar questions and answers but they seem to be different from my case. What can be the most correct method other than making a new project and copying and specifying everything one-by-one?
I found the file name should have a space in 'CUDA 4.0.props' so I changed the file name(MSBuild/Microsoft.Cpp/V120/BuildCustomizations/CUDA 4.0.targets) , then it complained about CUDA 4.0.targets file missing, so I copied MSBuild/Microsoft.Cpp/v4.0/BuildCustomizations/CUDA 4.0.targets (it was there since 5 years ago) to MSBuild/Microsoft.Cpp/v4.0/V120/BuildCustomizations/CUDA 4.0.targets. Now I can see the files in the project browser but when I build the project, it says

But in my VS2013 I don't see such "Upgrade Solution" or upgrade menu. So I looked for method to change the toolset and found

I am trying to load CMU sphinx in visual studio 2013 but getting some error.
The steps which i followed was
I downloaded sphinxbase-5prealpha and pocketsphinx-5prealpha and extracted to same folder.
Then i complied all the projects from both pocketsphinx and sphinxbase in visual studio(it asked me to upgrade the compliers so i did the upgrade)
now after cleaning the project, when i am trying to build all the project it is throwing a error that 'cannot open sphinxbase.lib' which it is showing in pocketsphinx project.
when i checked the 'sphinxbase.lib' file was already there in the linker of the project.
According to this document the 'sphinxbase.dll' file should be added to the bin files, but it is already added in the directory bot release and debug.
Similarly it is present in debug directory also.
Please help me, can anybody tell me what wrong i am doing here??

You extracted files incorrectly. The layout must be the following:
root folder
\____pocketsphinx
\____ all files like README, src
\____sphinxbase
\____ all files like README, src
You need to download sources and unpack them into two folders - pocketsphinx and sphinxbase. Then open sphinxbase solution and compile everything. Then open pocketsphinx solution and compile everything. Please note that if you downloaded pocketsphinx-5prealpha you need to rename it to just pocketsphinx. Same for sphinxbase.
Please also note that pocketsphinx_5prealpha_win32 is a binary distribution, you can not compile it. Instead, you can include it directly into your projects.
I have a simple empty Visual Studio 2013 C/C++ project to which added two files:
MyCode.cpp
MyCode.h
Inside MyCode.cpp, I have as the first line,
#include "mex.h"
mex.h is a MATLAB file located in C:\Program Files\MATLAB\MATLAB Compiler Runtime\v717\extern\include
I have gone to Project Properties -> C/C++ -> General and added "C:\Program Files\MATLAB\MATLAB Compiler Runtime\v717\extern\include" to my "Additional Include Directories".
And yet, VS never finds the file!
File 'mex.h' not found in current source file's directory or in build system paths.
It seems that the build system paths are not being updated with my additional include path.
I've tried using relative paths as well, deleting the .sdf file, and closing/reopening Visual Studio. It simply won't add the path.
For reference, this works fine in Visual Studio 2010.

I get a "fatal error LNK1104 cannot open file C:\users\user\documents\visual.obj" whenever I want to compile my project on Visual Studio 2008.
my project uses a .lib file that I created.

Thanks , guyz. I've found the solution to my problem. I had to add quotes around the path to my .lib file in Project->Properties->Configuration Properties->Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies .
Make sure that the directory C:\users\user\documents\ exists and that you have read/write access to it.

You need to add the DirectX library folder to Visual Studio's search path. See the "Directories" settings under Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions. Otherwise the linker will not know where to find d3dx9.lib.
