I'm writing applescript to automate acrobat. I'm trying to find UI element inside Quick Tools Toolbar in Adobe Acrobat XI.
I have no problem accessing menu bar:
tell menu "Tools" of menu item "Tools" of the menu "View" of menu bar 1
return UI elements
end tell
But I can't some reason find a way to access Quick Tools Toolbar buttoms.
Please help!
I did a quick check using UI Browser, and the closest UI element I could get to a toolbutton is the the quick toolbar as such. Its role is "unknown", and it has no more children. Example (as suggested by UI Browser):
select UI element 7 of group 2 of group 1 of window "myPDF.pdf"
You will get a little bit further using Acrobat JavaScript. As every button also has an internal menu item, you can use execMenuItem() to execute it. The problem is to find the correct name of the menu item. For that you may have to go back to Acrobat 9 or 8, and run listMenuItems from the Console.
And now, I leave away a lengthy rant about Acrobat's user interface(s)…
Thanks Max, I got it finally:
I created JS file with simple code
app.addMenuItem({cName:"Convert Colors", cParent:"View", cExec:'app.execMenuItem("ColorConversionMenuItem");'});
and I added it into acrobat (USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/JavaScripts/).
I enabled menu items JavaScript execution privileges in Acrobat Preferences.
Now I can open "Convert Colors" from main menu bar, and create applescript which do the same.

Editing the registry as #dbvega indicates works if you always want the same menu item to appear. This is called a static menu. But if you want to do have more control over your menu item, such as changing the visibility, text, and icon depending on various runtime conditions, you need to create a dynamic context menu shell extension, which involves programming a COM object. This MSDN article describes the difference.
I am trying to add a shortcut to the exectuable in the user's start menu.
There are many answer on StackOverflow that detail how to do this.
However, the all say something along the lines of 'Right click in the right-hand pane to...'
So I understand you all have an interface that looks something like:
I don't have the panel on the extredme right - entitled 'Name' containing the Primary Output.
I have gone through every menu option I can find to enable this pane, but can't find it.
Anyone know how to show this window?
I am wondering wether or not the splitter has been dragged all of the way to the right. Try collapsing all of your side menus like the solution / property / toolbox etc.. to make sure that the File System editor is filling the entire window then look if you can see a splitter to the right. I have not found any way to delete that panel yet. You can also try right clicking on the File system Tab and tell it to float then make it go full screen to see if the splitter is visible then.
I had the same problem, tried to find another splitter but couldn't, got the 2nd detail pane by opening Visual Studio 2010 using the 'Run as administrator' command.
I have a small application which contains a form with a menu along the top. I wish to make changes to the menu, but can't seem to do so from within the VB IDE. Every time I click on it to select it, the code for the item clicked is displayed.
Does anyone know how to edit the menu bar from within the IDE?
(I could edit the .frm file to make the necessary changes but I am reluctant to do this if a "proper" way exists.)
You can edit a VB6 menu in the IDE by bringing up the Menu Editor by selecting Tools > Menu Editor or by pressing Ctrl+E.

Right click the form and select the Menu Editor option.
Tools -> Menu Editor from the IDE menu bar.
The option should also be available on the Standard toolbar and the form context menu.
This modal dialog is only available when the form designer has focus.
The right-click context menus of the source editor, the project items and the solution item, is getting ridiculously long, and two of them even have scrolling now on my 1680x1050 screen.
Is there any way for me to hide items on these menus, even if I have to add an event to my Visual Studio macro-system and find and hide them manually?
Here's examples, many of these items I never use:
Edit1: The current answer + comments suggest I should use the Customize menu item in the toolbar context menus, go to the second tab, Commands, and use the Context Menus radio selection and find the relevant menus there.
Here are 3, which are suggested by comments:
As you can see, they're all empty.
Edit2: After clicking the "Reset All" button in that dialog, for the Solution and Project menus, I got items in the dialog, that I could edit, but the changes did not affect the actual context menu on either a project or the solution file. Also, after restarting Visual Studio, the dialog contents for those two were again empty.
In Visual Studio 2010 you can:
Goto Tools->Customize
Select the Commands tab
Select the Context menu radio button
Select the appropriate context menu from the dropdown list to the right, and delete away
I believe Visual Studio 2008 is similar.
You will need to choose the correct context menu in the Customise option.
Go to Tool > Customise,
Then choose the Context menu as you did in your Edit1 screenshots but choose "Editor Context Menus | Code Window" from the dropdown menu instead.
From there you should be able to delete whatever command you don't need from your context menu. Next, for the other commands that can't be found in Editor Context Menus | Code Window (mostly plug-ins or extensions related commands) you will have to go through other categories.
For example, I am using CodeMaid and when I right click a file in Solution Explorer the context menu below are shown
In order to remove the 'Cleanup Selected Code' command I will have to choose the Project and Solution Context Menus | Solution Folder dropdown option.
Added: Here is my sample reduced context menu (removed Copy, Cut, Paste, Outline Menu and Create Snippet...)

Edit: In case you want to add back the commands you removed you can either add them back using New Command... or just press Reset All. Keep in mind the later will restore all the commands. Thus unless you are really having trouble finding the removed command use the first method.
I use 3 VS extensions and these 3 are responsible for polluting the context menu:
VSCommands
Power Commands
Power Toys
Using their own options dialogue, it's possible to subject showing those menus to pressing CTRL (in VS Commands) or completely disable them (the other 2 extensions)
When you selected text in the code window and right-clicked on it, you would get a context menu with an option to "Search in Project" for the selected text. (Xcode 3.x)
Anyone knows how I can achieve the same in Xcode 4? Or a keyboard shortcut?
Now I select the text and wrestle my fingers in the following combination CMD-C, CMD-CTRL-F, CMD-V, RETURN. Feels a bit like playing the Playstation...

There doesn't seem to be a single keyboard shortcut, but one you might find useful is "Use Selection for Find" (Command+E). That is, you can select some text, and press Command+E, Command+Shift+F, Return.
It's no longer in a menu option but is accessible by an icon. Look directly beneath the "Schemes" at the sequence of 7 small icons. The 3rd one over is a "search" icon. Click that icon and type in your project search text and press return.
