tax section in magento backend disappeared under sales - magento

I'm missing the tax section under sales in my Magento backed menu . can any one let me know what possibly the reason is !!? i tried to go to permissions --> roles and made sure that i have all the admin permission available fro me as a user but still didn't work.refreshed the cache and didn't work as well .
Thanks in advance

I suspect an module that you have installed is blocking the access to the tax section.
Try disabling all the none core modules and enable them one by one to figure out which one is responsible for not giving you access.
Also relogin in the admin every time (disable & refresh cache every time).
If its still missing when you have disabled all the modules, try a reinstall of the core files.

Bring shipping methods not showing as guest customer

I have a problem with this site: www.stramline.no
(It is in Norwegian).
As a customer with an account, the shipping method appear just fine.
However, as a guest, the shipping methods will not appear except "pick up in store". This is of course a big problem for many who are trying to purchase something.
Do you have any idea how to fix this? We have tried multiple checkout extensions, so we are sure that is not the problem. It also seems that I can log in, then log out, and the shipping methods will appear.
We are also using the X-POS extension.
I think the solution to your problem is that you haven't allowed the guest checkout from your magento backend.
To do this, go to system> configuration> checkout
and set "Allow Guest Checkout" to "Yes"
Clear cache after you've done this and it will work fine.
Note: I never use additional plugin/extension for shipping modules, I always create my own to avoid any future issues.

Checkout button in Magento not working after I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.7. - Am I missing something?

The store works when I add an item, but when I click to checkout the link re-directs to the home page store. It’s the same when I click on Proceed to checkout. Before, I had the cache management disabled and now is enabled. Is this related or what could be causing this problem? Thanks so much for the help, with kind regards.
Try deleting all the cache files stored in the /var/cache folder in magento.
Using chrome console or firebug check to see if you have any JS error before redirecting
Check your web logs to see if you have any php errors on the checkout page
It's most likely to be a Javascript issue when the checkout button does not work. Remove your theme to fall back to the base theme then see if it works.
I fixed and these where the steps I took to make it work. However, before you do any of the following work disable your cache management:
Open Magento admin panel
Go to System>Cache Management
Check all Cache types and in the Actions box select refresh
Then select all Cache types and in the Actions box select disable
Also click Flush Magento Cache and Flush Cache Storage buttons
Now you are free to perform any changes to your store.
Now, if you upgraded and nothing works make sure that under:
System/Configuration -> Web – Default Pages /that your ‘Home page’ is listed under
‘CMS Home Page’. Also check:
System/Configuration -> Design – Packages /that your ‘Template’ is listed under
‘Current Package Name’. Otherwise default takes over.
Note: your template will still come up with all its features and buttons in your browser, even if no home page is setup; this is because of the previous version configuration.
If the ‘Home Page’ and ‘Template’ are not listed, add them and go into your File System and erase everything under ‘var/cache’ and ‘var/session’. Reload your home page: www.yourstore.com/magento/ it should work. After, all work is done enable your cache management.
Also, it’s good to check that your home page lands at the store, and to check - do the following:
Login to your Magento MySQL database.
Open the db [database_prefix] for your store.
Locate core_config_data.
Find the row with entry: 'web/unsecure/base_url' and 'web/secure/base_url' they should look like www.yourstore.com/magento/ or whatever you name your magento store file.

Joomla v1.5.14 Admin top menu elements are missing

My client has Joomla! ver 1.5.14 installed on the remote server. I logged in using the url /administrator/ with login 'admin'. When landed on the admin page after successful login, I observed that the top menu has only two elements, Site and Help. All other elements like Menus, Content, Components, Extensions etc are not there.
Also I do not find any way to access those elements (menus, components). There are not icons on the screen to access them.
Could someone please help me figure out this issue?
Thanks in advance

MulC
EDIT:
Following is the screenshot of the admin page

user admin belogs to the group 'Super Administrator'
Thank you
It's very strange that this should happen unless your client has been fiddling with the core Joomla files or database tables.
Update the site to the latest version of the 1.5 series (1.5.26)
Download the full Joomla package, extract the administrator, components, includes, libraries, modules and plugins folder, zip them up and upload to the server, replacing the current folder. Not to worry, this will only override the core files which I assume haven't been edited.
Try downloading and installing another admin template.
Else the only other thing I can think of is reconstructing the website which might take a while, depending on the amount of work that went into it.
In Joomla! 1.5.x a common security step was to create an alternate "super user" and downgrade the default admin account to a standard registered. Due to issues in early versions of 1.5 though it wasn't recommended to delete or disable this account.
This sounds like what is going on with your admin account.
You can check this by looking at the database checking the table jos_users look for the username admin and see what it's usertype is set to. At the same time look for a user that has an usertype of Super Administrator (yes, really the words Super Administrator).
Once you have the username of the Super Administrator, you will need to find the password. If the client doesn't know it then you will have to recover the admin password.

Joomla 1.6 backend admin area blank

For some reason, when I log into my joomla 1.6 backend, it is now empty, displaying only a logout button. Any Ideas?
I just went through the same problem but on J!1.7.3. There may be many, many reasons but please check using just URL if you can see for example:
[YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_content or
[YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_modules
If content is listing and you're missing just Admin-menu and sub-navigation in back-end --> this means you messed-up with access levels and viewing access.
If you can't see content listing - ignore the rest of this post :-)
...with access levels and viewing access. To check that, try entering [YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_users&view=levels and enter each position in the list. Joomla backend navigation module usually has Access set to Special, so focus on this one. When enter Special - manager, author and super administrator should be ticked. If everything empty in any from the list - this is your issue :)
You need to add manager, author and super administrator to your Special access level. Obviously you can't see Save button, so you need to use database. [wrrr :) sounds scary?] Not a big deal, just go there using for example phpMyAdmin and find _viewlevels table. In there just edit Special and add [6,2,8] values to set up manager, author, super.....
Update database. Try to log-in one more time (close browser and clean cache before).
I hope if this wasn't helpful for you, will be for somebody else.
p.s. There may be a way of 'saving' changes in you joomla access levels with URL. Then you don't need to go to DB .. but I don't know if this is feasible at all :)
Check the rewrite of htaccess and the $mosConfig_absolute_path variable in config.php
Apparently, the Bluestork Template (admin template) has some security issues. In my case there were some missing files in the template folder /administrator/templates/bluestork/ that caused the administrator screen to appear blank. I've copied a clean version of the template in the bluestork folder and after that I was able to see the backend admin area.
I've removed the bluestork templates entirely for now, which seems to be the best option. Joomla installs 2.5.8, 2.5.6, 2.5.2, 1.7.0, 1.6.3 are affected. The Blustork Template is a target for hacks with old Joomla.
this happening becoz of admin user lost his permissions. see below article to fix this issue

Magento guest checkout/authorize.net issue

I am trying to determine how to debug an issue in Magento version 1.3.1:
When a customer uses guest checkout, the Authorize.net payment option is not available.
However, if the user revisits his cart and resumes guest checkout the Authorize.net option does appear.
We have now found that if Authorize.net is set to "all allowed countries" instead of "specific countries", then Authorize.net is available at guest checkout
We have not been able to upgrade Magento without breaking the integration into the parent site.
Thank you -- Tony
I had a similar problem with 1.6.0. Everything was working fine with the saved CC during testing, but when I shut that off and turn Authorize.net on, it ost the ability. So this is what I did to fix it.
I initialized the CC (Saved) back on, at the same time saved the config, checked it and sure enough, it came back on. So I then disabled the saved option again and then everything worked. My guess is when I turn off saved and initializedAuthorize an the same time, the settings were incorrectly written. Anyhow, worth a try if someone runs across the same problem .
