I'm using Visual Studio 2013 and I'm trying to import some .DBF database files into a dataset. I'm using the OLE DB FoxPro Data Source Provider and it does work, it just will not load all the .DBF files using the Data Connection so that I can choose which files to add as tables in my dataset. It's as if it doesn't even see them. I cannot use an ODBC connection because it crashes Visual Studios every single time for whatever reason. However, when I add it as an ODBC connection, it does recognize all the files like it is supposed to. I just can't use them or it will crash. I've been working on this for days, so please help! It will not allow me to add these files using the Microsoft Jet 4.0 either.
Without seeing your connection string, I can only suggest posting it. However, I would also preemptively guess that your connection string is pointing to a specific .DBF file which connects to a single table.
Your connection should point to the LOGICAL DRIVE / PATH and not explicitly name a .dbf file.
The other possibility is that if the files are part of a database CONTAINER (via .DBC file extension), then you should be able to query and table in the database container.
What MAY be failing is if the table is part of a database container, and it has long column names beyond the 10 characters of the older / free-form table formats, that MIGHT be preventing querying for that reason.
Let's see your connection information as best as you can without any possible id/password information.

I'm using Visual Studio Pro 2013 and want to use the Fuzzy Lookup task but there seems to be a bug that prevents the component from connecting to the reference tables.
A reference file and table is specified in the Connection tab which all seems fine but the Columns tab is also needed to create the reference links between different fields of the data however there is nothing there:
The error messages are as follows:
I've read elsewhere this was a known bug on older versions of SSIS from about 2005 - anyone know what the problem is here and how I can fix this?
I should add that the connection manager and the table seem fine as they have been used many times elsewhere in the project. I've tried recreating the data flow in a new document and even restarting my PC but this simply won't work. I should add that I've not used the Fuzzy Lookup before but have looked at several references and know that the column tab should be populated with data and not be an issue.
Many Thanks,
Kw
Not a bug, it's how the product works. From the manual, it specifies the reference table must be a table in sql server. A table in Access, therefore, is unsuitable for use in the fuzzy lookup component.
The transformation needs access to a reference data source that contains the values that are used to clean and extend the input data. The reference data source must be a table in a SQL Server database
a little background, I really don't know any technical terms from Oracle. My company have a pre built machine and I'm trying not having to go there backup my files and lose a day of job because I cant.
Recently I'm learning how to use Oracle Designer (6i) to build a diagram and later a table so I can request it to be created... While using the software it requested to install some file for the repository... after doing it, It screwed up every Oracle product I was using... I couldn't connect to PLSQL or even the designer...
After fixing some registry to point to the right TNSNAME and manually adjusting PLSQL, I managed to access both. The problem in hand is in oracle Designer at the "Designer Editor", when I right click a table and select generate, the message bellow shows up
Message
-------
CDD-23564: The file "C:\ORACLE\DSG6I\BIN\cds61.dll" could not be loaded or does not exist.
Cause
-----
The specified file or one its dependent files could not be loaded.
This may be because a file has not been installed, or is not
correctly defined in the system registry.
As an example dependency, the Forms Generator files require the
Form Builder files installed as part of Developer.
Action
------
Check the registry settings for the location of the required
file. Also check the product and any required dependencies
e.g.Developer have been installed correctly.
If necessary, try reinstalling.
The dll mentioned IS and EXISTS on the mentioned folder.
Considering I don't have the Oracle Developer 6i intaller, what can I do? What registry entry should I update?
Designer 6 is long out of support. Oracle has a free tool, SQL Developer Data Model, which does not break.
Even Designer 9i was flaky and would crash at random intervals and poke along with larger schemas. Anything over hundred tables could take days to edit. Ah, good times...
I managed to fix the problem by copying and replacing the whole ORACLE_HOME\DSG6I folder (in my case c:\Oracle\DSG6I, for those confused in terms like me) and the oracle system registry (regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle) from a coworker machine!
We are looking to introduce odac into our application but I am running into a number of issues and I can't seem to find any solutions that fix our issues.
We are using an oracle database and trying to use ODAC 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1.0) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio.
In our model we would like to have multiple schemas so we can perform cross schema queries. The schemas which we select in the filter for the database connection appear when we are creating the model. However when we try to update our model from the database only the default schema is visible. Sometimes this can be fixed by opening the relevant part of the database in Server Explorer in Visual Studio but this doesn't always work. This fix never works after we add multiple connection strings for the same model (depending on the location of the user will depend on which database the user gets directed to).
The next issue we are having is that we can't the return types of stored procedures to be auto-generate. I have tried to retrieve the column information but it is never able to retrieve the metadata. I have seen a few suggestions of modifying the stored procedures then getting the column information and reverting the stored procedures but this is something we would like to avoid. Also the suggestions don't seem to work on oracle databases (but that could be me, I don't have much experience with databases).
The final issue (this is a minor issue) is that I cannot figure out how to get the generate code to omit underscores from the classes/methods generated. This isn't a huge issue it is purely to make it easier migrating the code we have.
I am using mvc3 to develop an database application and followed the Code-First Tutorial using Entity Framework 4 of msdn site....
I followed all the steps but unable to see the sdf file....
I can perform CRUD operations but can not see the physical database file inside the app_data folder
I also did "Show all file" but still it is not shown in my visual studio explorer...even my App_data folder is empty...
Code inside the web.config file:
<add name="Forum1Context"
connectionString="Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Forum.sdf"
providerName="System.Data.SqlServerCe4.0"/>
Please Help me!!
I experienced a similar issue. In my case, the name attribute in the add tag was not the same as the name of the class which inherited from DbContext. When I changed the name attribute to match, then I could see the .sdf file, but rows I had inserted previously into the database were lost.
It could be that the Database considered your SQL Express rather then the connection string. Fire up SQL Management Studio and check your SQL Express server
"Data Source=|DataDirectory|Forum.sdf" means Database file is located at "App_Data" folder.
And if you can even perform CRUD operation, Database file should be already there as "App_Data\Forum.sdf". (Please also verify with window explorer).
On Visual Studio, need to enable "Show All Files" on Solution Explorer to view Database file.
Just wanna point out that SQL Express and SqlServer CE are different. SQL Express will need a memory pipe or TCP connection like any other DB server, and the Sql Server CE will automatically create your DB file if doesn't exist at first runtime.
Could it be that you haven't run our app (and EF4.1 code) hence your .sdf file isn't there yet?
Just remove the backslash \ before Forum. I think that will solve it.
I want to create a VS 2010 project with EF 4.0 model.
But I have no records and errors after inserting new record with attached .mdf file .
But if the base is connected to Sql Server, it works fine.
Please help me to insert records to attached .mdf db
You need to make sure DB is not in a shared folder, is on your pc, is not read only, that you have write permissions to the folder that contains it and there is no DB already attached to service with same name. Make sure you can connect with Server Explorer window first.
Consider using SQL Server CE, if you want to work with loose DB files.
Also, make sure the file is not overwritten with each build. (Use "Copy if newer", not "Copy always".)
