I have an issue with Magneto community and we are using "bizarre" theme. Everything was working fine till last night and I was modifying the categories and products, today morning it seems that there's some issue with admin panel.
When I am logging in with my user id password, it takes me to the index page every time not to admin panel, it works for a while but when I try to go to any settings like "system>configuration> etc" it takes me again to the main page of the website (frontend).
I think you have a problem with cache management.
Try to delete var folder in the [YOUR SITE PATH HERE]/magento/var

I am attempting to update the admin panel url.
I edited app/etc/local.xml and changed the following line to the desired name:
<frontName><![CDATA[admin]]></frontName>
I then went to my Magento root and cleared the cache by running rm -rf var/cache/*
This exact process worked beautifully when I first tested on my remote staging server, it updated to the new URL immediately. However, there was absolutely no change when I attempted it on my live site. The admin panel still showed up when I visited www.mysite.com/admin.
I had a short window of time when the traffic to our website is low and nobody is actively using the admin panel, so I changed the name back to admin and cleared the cache again after my change did not take effect.
Any ideas what might have gone wrong?

another way is to change from the admin itself.Goto System→Config→Admin→Admin Base Url→Use Custom Admin Path, set yes. Set new admin path in Custom admin path text field and save.
I am using magento 1.6.2.0 and it keeps returning to to login screen every time I try to do an activity.
Things I have done:
My php.ini memory limits are set at 512Mb and my times set at 18000
checked the server time, php.ini time, and magento config time
Cleard the cache from magento. no joy
Cleared the cache and session from my plesk panel, no joy
Cleaned firefox and chrome history and page cache, not joy
reinstalled Mage_Core_Adminhtml, Mage_Core_Modules, Lib_Js_Mage, no joy
I reinstalled mage JS, no joy
The only changes recently have been the magento php 5.4 patch and had to reinstall Mage_GoogleShopping becase the new one would never complete loading the page.
Every time I try to change to something in the admin menu I have to log back in.
I checked the adminnotification_inbox in the database and it was reset to zero.
I get no errors in firebug, firefox or chrome and my cookies are working although it says .nilandspalce.com.
reinstalled magento.
It is like magento keeps resetting itself as my admin notifications keep coming back after delete
I have no error reports or folder.
I have run out of ideas?
I've came across this issue before... Give this a try...
system->configuration->admin -> select security tab and check session lifetime field
This is where you can define your time...
Also, if you use some .php extensions, some of their session encrypts can cause problems...
For Ex: sjusin.session.encrypt = On (This would need to be turned to Off in some cases)

The store works when I add an item, but when I click to checkout the link re-directs to the home page store. It’s the same when I click on Proceed to checkout. Before, I had the cache management disabled and now is enabled. Is this related or what could be causing this problem? Thanks so much for the help, with kind regards.
Try deleting all the cache files stored in the /var/cache folder in magento.
Using chrome console or firebug check to see if you have any JS error before redirecting
Check your web logs to see if you have any php errors on the checkout page
It's most likely to be a Javascript issue when the checkout button does not work. Remove your theme to fall back to the base theme then see if it works.
I fixed and these where the steps I took to make it work. However, before you do any of the following work disable your cache management:
Open Magento admin panel
Go to System>Cache Management
Check all Cache types and in the Actions box select refresh
Then select all Cache types and in the Actions box select disable
Also click Flush Magento Cache and Flush Cache Storage buttons
Now you are free to perform any changes to your store.
Now, if you upgraded and nothing works make sure that under:
System/Configuration -> Web – Default Pages /that your ‘Home page’ is listed under
‘CMS Home Page’. Also check:
System/Configuration -> Design – Packages /that your ‘Template’ is listed under
‘Current Package Name’. Otherwise default takes over.
Note: your template will still come up with all its features and buttons in your browser, even if no home page is setup; this is because of the previous version configuration.
If the ‘Home Page’ and ‘Template’ are not listed, add them and go into your File System and erase everything under ‘var/cache’ and ‘var/session’. Reload your home page: www.yourstore.com/magento/ it should work. After, all work is done enable your cache management.
Also, it’s good to check that your home page lands at the store, and to check - do the following:
Login to your Magento MySQL database.
Open the db [database_prefix] for your store.
Locate core_config_data.
Find the row with entry: 'web/unsecure/base_url' and 'web/secure/base_url' they should look like www.yourstore.com/magento/ or whatever you name your magento store file.
I know that that similar issues and topics exist, however my issue differs slightly and none of the proposed fixes have worked.
I was accessing the Magento backend as normal. Approximately 10 minutes after that I could no longer access the Magento backend.
What I mean is that when I go to the admin url login page, I get a 404. However the 404 isn't generated by my host, it's generated by my webstore.
Everything about my webstore works as normal.

I have a few main issues.
Admin Custom URL had been set (but not by me). It was set over a year ago when Magento was installed. It worked entirely fine until today.
I do not even have "admin/url/custom" and "admin/url/use_custom" in my "core_config_data" PHP table. It simply does not exist so I cannot change it. I looked manually for it and did a search for it. Nothing.
I tried updating the local.xml file and clearing "var/caches" and "var/sessions" but that did not work either.
I've been working this for hours and it's beyond frustrating. It's imperative that this be fixed ASAP because we are a fairly sizeable company.

First Check your Apache configurations
I know that you said you were only in the Magento admin but I would first check that apache was configured correctly. This is the first point of contact and you need to ensure that it's working right.
You need to locate a default Magento htaccess file that you can upload to your server. There's additional configurations that you need to make if you're in a subdirectory and also check to make sure that your mod_rewrite is working properly. There's an extensive tutorial on these things here, magento htaccess.
Make sure that you have the right magento admin url
I have to assume that you know what your magento admin url is, but of course I would double check that you're getting it right. There is an option in the admin area to change the admin url, you could have adjusted that on accident.
You say that you don't have "admin/url/custom" and "admin/url/use_custom" in your core_config_data table. This actually means that you didn't set the magento admin url from the admin area. However there is a third place that you can look for your admin url. This is in app/etc/local.xml but you couldn't have changed this from the administration area.
Did you turn off search engine friendly urls?
If you had been accessing your administrative area using /admin and then accidentally turned off SEF urls, then your admin area could have just simply moved to /index.php/admin. Of course you mentioned that you have a custom admin url, but I don't know what that is, so I'm giving examples with the default.
I can't really give you any more suggestions without more information. I hope that this helps!

A few hours ago everything just went fine on my store. Then for some reason I changed the settings for using SID in frontend to NO. After that I couldn't access the admin panel anymore. So I fixed that by setting the value for web/session/use_frontend_sid in core_config_data to 1. I cleared the cache manually by ftp and I was able to log into the admin panel.
Now the strange part. After all I can't add products to the cart. Everytime I try to add a product to my cart magento redirects me to the enable-cookies CMS page.
Ok, I solved the problem. I set the redirect when cookies are deactivated in the configuration panel to NO. Now it works like before.
