I'm facing a problem.
I installed VS 2013 Ultimate RTM from Dreamspark long time ago, then recently installed the Update 3. The problem is that the update become corrupted, some features don't work correctly, repair doesn't help. I tried to uninstall VS but could not, every time I try to uninstall it, it's just stuck at "Workflow Manager ....". I even waited for a day, and the process still didn't continue.
Then I decided to overwrite the RTM installation with "Ultimate with update 4" downloaded from MS website, then tried uninstall it. This time it's hang at "Configuring your system ..."
It's so annoying, is there anyway to completely wipe out VS?

Yesterday I upgraded my Windows 10 machine from the Insider Preview to the original release. From that moment on when I try to open solution(even when trying to create new one) in Visual Studio 2013 the program crashes and stops. In the event viewer I found that the crash is due to a heap corruption in the ntdll.dll but that didn't help me. The program runs smoothly in safe mode but crashes every time with every solution when not in this mode.
When this happened I thought that it should be common problem for Windows 10 and VS2013 but I can't find anything relevant in the net for almost a day. Does anybody else experience such issue or similar? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Note: I worked with VS2013 and Windows 10 Insider preview for almost a month and experienced no issues. That's why I think the problem is connected with the official release of Windows 10.
You might want to try un-installing VS2013 and then re-installing it on your machine, this works for almost all of the bugs that I encounter when upgrading my OS. Also, make sure you are installing VS2013 Update 5, which was released on the 20th July this year, and not the old VS2013 Update 4 (Or possibly earlier if you are using an old installer) as this may fix compatibility issues, which is likely as Microsoft would have made the most recent version of the software compatible with its latest OS. Even better, try installing Visual Studio 2015 as this will almost certainly be Windows 10 compatible as it is the newest release of the Visual Studio software.
Edit: Don't forget to back up any projects you want to keep before making any changes! This is important as you could easily lose a lot of work when un-installing VS2013.
I am trying to install Multi-Device Hybrid Apps extension on Visual Studio 2013 (Ultimate). But Installation got stuck when Android SDK being install. I have waited for 2 to 3 hours but it stuck there. I have cancelled the process and tried again but same issue.
Can anyone help me to fix this issue?
Thank you
I had a similar problem for Visual Studio 2015 RC1. The Android images take a long time to download, especially if you are downloading other things on the same network and have slow internet.
I found the AndroidSDK_SI.log file in %temp% and it shows it was actually still downloading even after 3 hours!
I believe the installer really needs to show better feedback. It seemed like the installer was hung, but it was actually downloading very slowly. Something as dirty as an option to read the currently running log file being in a text box would even help.
You can also kill the SecondaryInstaller.exe in Task Manager to stop the Android SDK sub-installer. You can then try fix it yourself or Repair Visual Studio if the install continues and completes.
Repair is available by right clicking on Visual Studio in the Microsoft Windows "Programs and Features" control panel section and clicking "Change". This will bring up a Visual Studio dialog where you can Modify or Repair the install.
Just bought a laptop and want to put Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 on it, but it takes forever to do anything.
My first time installing it, it got stuck on a very common problem. Web Deploy 3.0 - Certificate warning or Unable to locate package source error. Since the installation crashed, I installed Web Deploy 3.5 (the latest version) manually to get around this issue.
When I try and install again, it says I need to uninstall or repair first. However, it won't uninstall or repair. For repair, it sat on Creating a system restore point all night` and for uninstall it sat on something I can't remember the other night.
Is it possible to uninstall Visual Studio 2012 via the command prompt and what are the commands to do that?
I am at a total loss when it comes to WPI and the continous reinstallation of Visual Studio 2010 SP1. I have even went as far as creating a virgin machine and installed VS2010 and then immediatly installed the tools from WPI. After completion (which shows success) I reboot the machine and then load the WPI again to add on secondary tools. At which point, the WPI triggers an installation of the SP1 -- 90 minutes later, the list shows up as successful, and other tools are listed for installation.
Every time you run WPI, it wants to go through the VS2010 setup over and over. Is there any way to fix this behaviour?
Thanks in advance.
I have Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Trial installed, which is about to expire. I also have a retail box with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. So I thought changing my trial to the full version would be as simple as entering the key, but no, it tells me that the key is invalid. OK, so I ran the setup from the Professional DVD. It accepted the key and appeared to install just fine (didn't mention anything about it already being installed). At the end it said that setup was completed successfully. When I ran it, however, it was still Ultimate Trial and still expiring in 3 days. Has anyone successfully done this without uninstalling and reinstalling, which would take me half a day?
I finally uninstalled Ultimate and (to my great surprise) I still had a shortcut to "Visual Studio 2010". When I opened it it ran Pro, no problem, as if nothing happened. So basically the following path works just fine:
Install Ultimate
Install Pro (in the same directory!)
Uninstall Ultimate
