I am trying to create a web form in Lotus Notes that is web enabled. So far this has all worked fine, however there are 2 issues.
When Creating a Java Script Alert in the OnLoad Event, it Pops up everytime a user selects a radio button or dropdown option since this reloads the page. Is there any way to make this only for the initial opening of the form?
When a user selects an option, the form reloads and puts that form field on the top which is proving to be very disorrienting for users. Is there a way to have it not scroll on reload?

The best advice would be: use XPages for web development that is "state of the art". If you can't, you have to code a lot of JavaScript to make the form not behave like "havoc".
First of all: the field property "refresh fields on keyword change" is the reason for the jumping / reload.
What does domino do?
All events / formulas that occur when you normally press F9 or use the Option above (that can be field values, input translations, hide whens, etc.) are not "converted" to HTML and javascript but are executed by the server. Therefor each change in a field with the option set submits the form and adds an &Seq=x to the url to keep track of the state. X increments on every reload. Of course this reload causes all events to be triggered again.
For you this means:

disable the option to reload the form after keyword change.
Unfortunately you have to recode every dependency / calculation / hide when with javascript. Using a framework like jquery or dojo this is possible, but a lot of work.
If there IS no dependency then just disable the option...

Live with the "jumping" and let your onload event check for the existance of an URL- parameter called seq... And only if it does not exist, then it is a "real" OnLoad...
Both options are not quite nice and not very easy to code...
That's one reason why IBM started XPages... There all this stuff is already handled by default...
If you go to http://jsbin.com/ibozun/2, hit "Add Item," and then hit "Save," you will see that a second dialog is opened on top of the first one. The form in the dialog is posting to itself (no action defined) - this is by design. Because the dialog has duplicated itself, now you have to hit "Cancel" 2 times to get it to close.
The use-case for this setup is a MS MVC3 page with unobtrusive JQuery validation on it. The default scripts (in other words, I have no custom validators - the scripts are straight from MS) cause an ajax call to the server, and JQM treats that the same as a self-posting form - so you wind up with a duplicate dialog if validation fails.
A similar thing happens if the second page as a page, rather than a dialog - the form posting to itself results in a second history entry in the browser, so to get back to page 1, you have to hit back 2 times.
I believed this be a bug in JQM, but after submitting a bug on GitHub, I was told that this is the expected behavior. So, assuming this behavior that will not be changing in the framework, how do I prevent this from happening for my instance (preferring NOT to edit the framework JS)? Do I have to write my own ajax calls for validation so that I can prevent JQM from knowing that anything has happened? That seems unfortunate...
One idea I had was to detect that the nextPage and current page are the same on "pageHide", and manipulate the dialog/history myself, but have had no luck.

First, there is no dialog duplication in the example. Second, my response and an explanation as to why solving the history issues with posting back to the same page for users of the library is hard can be found here. This example is particularly thorny because it's also in a dialog which we don't support linking to, so disabling ajax for the form (ie forcing it to reload), which would work if it were embedded in a page, won't serve.
The quick solution here is to switch the dialog to a page and add the data-ajax=false data attribute to the form. Mind you this causes a page flash/reload and requires that the form document be fully formed with a head including javascript,css, etc.
We are using document.domain to sort out our cross domain stuff. Recently I decided to start working on a hash system on our website so there is history in the browser and bookmark links etc.
After some time google'ing I found reallysimplehistory and decided to give it a try. It works outstanding in IE8 and Chrome etc. I run into my problem in IE6 and 7 where it needs to use an IFrame to simulate history changes.
When I hit the back button in the browser it "goes back" a page but it never changes the hash in the url like it should. It has the correct number of history pages and it changes the hash when I add a new hash, but the backward and forward buttons of the browser aren't changing it.
Using the demo they supplied it was working just fine in IE6/7. When I introduced document.domain to the demo it stopped working and gave the same results my website gave.
So what do I need to do to get the back/forward buttons working in the browser again?
It might not be what you're looking for but I'd at least recommend looking at jquery-bbq which is a back functionality jquery plugin. You might be able to steal something from the source or base your app on it.
I am implementing a web application using ASP .Net and C#. One of the pages has a requirement that it always needs to be fetched from the server, rather than from the local browser cache. I have been able to achieve this.
We have a back button in the application, which simply invokes javascript:history.back() method. The problem is that when the back button is clicked to navigate to the page which is always to be reloaded from the server, the browser displays a "Web page expired message".
The intent here is to force the browser to reload the page rather than display the web page expired message.
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.
You will probably need to change the implementation to make the browser load the URL explicitly:
window.location.href = 'http://....';
instead of invoking the back button, since the intention of the back button is to get the last page from the cache.
(If browsers would not act that way, they would re-send your form data multiple times when using the back button during a registration process or similar.)
You mean you want to control browser behaviour, which is not possible. I doubt you can solve it that way. You could set the expiration time to a small value (1 minute perhaps?) so that the page is still valid if one navigates back quickly.
I'm writing an AJAX app, but as the user moves through the app, I'd like the URL in the address bar to update despite the lack of page reloads. Basically, I'd like for them to be able to bookmark at any point and thereby return to the current state.
How are people handling maintaining RESTfulness in AJAX apps?
The way to do this is to manipulate location.hash when AJAX updates result in a state change that you'd like to have a discrete URL. For example, if your page's url is:
http://example.com/
If a client side function executed this code:
// AJAX code to display the "foo" state goes here.
location.hash = 'foo';
Then, the URL displayed in the browser would be updated to:
http://example.com/#foo
This allows users to bookmark the "foo" state of the page, and use the browser history to navigate between states.
With this mechanism in place, you'll then need to parse out the hash portion of the URL on the client side using JavaScript to create and display the appropriate initial state, as fragment identifiers (the part after the #) are not sent to the server.
Ben Alman's hashchange plugin makes the latter a breeze if you're using jQuery.
Look at sites like book.cakephp.org. This site changes the URL without using the hash and use AJAX. I'm not sure how it does it exactly but I've been trying to figure it out. If anyone knows, let me know.

It is unlikely the writer wants to reload or redirect his visitor when using Ajax.
But why not use HTML5's pushState/replaceState?
You'll be able to modify the addressbar as much as you like. Get natural looking urls, with AJAX.

This is similar to what Kevin said. You can have your client state as some javascript object, and when you want to save the state, you serialize the object (using JSON and base64 encoding). You can then set the fragment of the href to this string.

document.location = newLocation; // adds new entry in browser history
document.location.replace(newLocation); // replaces current entry in browser history
The first way will treat the new state as a new location (so the back button will take them to the previous location). The latter does not.
SWFAddress works in Flash & Javascript projects and lets you create bookmarkable URLs (using the hash method mentioned above) as well as giving you back-button support.

YUI has an implementation of this pattern as a module, which includes IE specific work arounds for getting the back button working along with re-writing the address using the hash. YUI Browser History Manager.
Other frameworks have similar implementations as well. The important point is if you want the history to work along with the re-writing the address, the different browsers need different ways of handling it. (This is detailed in the first link article.)
IE needs an iframe based hack, where Firefox will produce double history using the same method.
If OP or others are still looking for a way to do modify browser history to enable state, using pushState and replaceState, as suggested by IESUS, is the 'right' way to do it now. It's main advantage over location.hash seems to be that it creates actual URLs, not just hashes. If browser history using hashes is saved, and then revisited with JavaScript disabled, the app won't work, since the hashes aren't sent to the server. However, if pushState has been used, the entire route will be sent to the server, which you can then build to respond appropriately to the routes. I saw an example where the same mustache templates were used on both the server and the client side. If the client had JavaScript enabled, he would get snappy responses by avoiding the roundtrip to the server, but the app would work perfectly fine without the JavaScript. Thus, the app can gracefully degrade in the absence of JavaScript.
Also, I believe there is some framework out there, with a name like history.js. For browsers that support HTML5, it uses pushState, but if the browser doesn't support that, it automatically falls back to using hashes.
Check if user is 'in' the page, when you click on the URL bar, JavaScript says you are out of page.
If you change the URL bar and press 'ENTER' with the symbol '#' within it then you go into the page again, without click on the page manually with mouse cursor, then a keyboard event command (document.onkeypress) from JavaScript will be able to check if it's enter and active the JavaScript for redirection.
You can check if user is IN the page with window.onfocus and check if he's out with window.onblur.
Yeah, it's possible.
