How to install Oracle database 11g on Ubuntu Server - oracle

I am using Ubuntu server 14.04 and I tried to find how to install oracle database 11g but could not found.
Do you have any suggestion or tutorial to guide that job?

To install the Oracle 11g database on Ubuntu, first download Ubuntu with a generic kernel from Ubuntu, and then release the link.
Installing on 12.0 is explained here

Another aproach is to setup a docker container with Oracle 11g.
Since Ubuntu is not a supported operating system, in can be much easier.
Here are the steps to install Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition:
I. Firstly install docker (if not installed) :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl gnupg-agent software-properties-common
curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -
sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io
(source https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/#install-using-the-repository)
II. Download and extract database files
Download Oracle installation files
https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/112010-linx8664soft.html
Unzip both files so you have a single "database" folder. Place this "database" folder somewhere and name it e.g "installation_folder"
III. Setup docker container:
sudo docker pull jaspeen/oracle-11g
sudo docker run --privileged --name oracle11g -p 1521:1521 -v /path/to/installation_folder:/install jaspeen/oracle-11g
IV. Use it. E.g. connect with SqlDeveloper (port 1521, SID orcl), or use sqlplus:
sudo docker ps -a
Get container [YOUR_CONTAINER_ID]
sudo docker exec -it [YOUR_CONTAINER_ID] /bin/bash
su - oracle
sqlplus / as sysdba

Installing Oracle Client Tools - Docker, Roundhouse, Oracle

I am trying to get Roundhouse running from a Docker image where I have some Oracle scripts, but currently when I execute the rh command against my Docker image I get the following error:
A type could not be created from the object you passed. "roundhouse.databases.oracle.OracleDatabase, roundhouse.databases.oracle" resolves to null.
I think this a result of not having the Oracle Client tools configured correctly in my Docker Image(https://github.com/chucknorris/roundhouse/wiki/Oracle).
I have downloaded the rpm files from https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/instant-client/linux-x86-64-downloads.html and I have managed to get the Oracle Client Tools installed but I carry on getting the above error so I assume that this is because I haven't configured the client tools correctly?
Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong?
FROM mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/sdk:2.1
ENV PATH="$PATH:/root/.dotnet/tools"
ADD *.* /
RUN apt-get update && \
apt-get install sudo
#RUN apk --update add libaio bc net-tools
RUN sudo apt-get install unzip
RUN sudo apt-get install wget
RUN sudo apt-get install alien -y
RUN sudo alien -i oracle-instantclient*-basic-*.rpm
RUN sudo alien -i oracle-instantclient*-devel-*.rpm
RUN sudo alien -i oracle-instantclient*-sqlplus-*.rpm
RUN echo /usr/lib/oracle/19.1/client/lib > /etc/ld.so.conf.d/oracle.conf
RUN sudo ldconfig
RUN dotnet tool install --global dotnet-roundhouse --version 1.2.1
ENTRYPOINT [ "rh"]
I had the same error when I tried to use the MS repo.
This worked for me:
Install the oficial oracle instant client container as
oracle/instantclient:19. Instruction here.
On top of that image build this Dockerfile
from oracle/instantclient:19
RUN microdnf install git RUN git clone https://github.com/chucknorris/roundhouse.git
RUN microdnf install dotnet-sdk-2.1
RUN cd roundhouse && dotnet tool install --global dotnet-roundhouse --version 1.2.1
ENTRYPOINT [ "rh"]

Mariadb installation on Amazon linux 2

Can someone provide steps to install mariadb on amazon linux 2?
I am pretty new in linux, so a little detail will be greatly appreciated. I have seen few links to install maria db on centOs but not sure if the same works for Amazon linux 2
If you use sudo yum install mariadb You'll get MariaDB version 5.5 which is an older version of MariaDB to get the latest version you will need to do the following.
sudo amazon-linux-extras enable lamp-mariadb10.2-php7.2=latest
sudo yum install mariadb mariadb-server
Note This will not work if you have php >= 7.3. If this is the case you must uninstall php before doing the steps above, using sudo yum erase php-common
sudo amazon-linux-extras disable lamp-mariadb10.2-php7.2=latest
Now mariadb is installed. I first tried to add centos 7 repo, but wasn't successful in getting it to install correctly.
Here you go:
Install and Start MariaDB
sudo yum update -y
sudo yum install -y mariadb-server
sudo systemctl start mariadb
sudo systemctl enable mariadb
Secure DB server. Select the relevant option's during command run.
sudo mysql_secure_installation
But I recommend you to install MariaDB from official repo for latest version by following instructions in this link.

Install hadoop on Ubuntu 12.04

I am trying to install Hadoop on Ubuntu 12.04, my system is 32 bit compatible.
I am Linux newbie. I tried this tutorial.
I have done these steps successfully:
Part 1 install Hadoop:
First, install Sun JDK 6. Go to the following page:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html
Look for x86, agree to the license, and download the file. I did this on my laptop and copied it up to the server via scp. Once it's up there follow these installation instructions:
chmod +x jdk-6u32-linux-x86.bin
./jdk-6u32-linux-x86.bin
sudo mkdir -p /usr/lib/jvm
sudo mv jdk1.6.0_32 /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_32
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javac javac /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_32/bin/javac 1
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_32/bin/java 1
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javaws javaws /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_32/bin/javaws 1
# now we're ready to install hadoop. taken from https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/CDH4DOC/Installing+CDH4+on+a+Single+Linux+Node+in+Pseudo-distributed+Mode
# update apt to be able to access cloudera
wget http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh4/one-click-install/lucid/amd64/cdh4-repository_1.0_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i cdh4-repository_1.0_all.deb
curl -s http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh4/ubuntu/lucid/amd64/cdh/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
# install hadoop
sudo su
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_32/
But while I try installing 'hadoop-0.20-conf-pseudo' I get this error:
E: Unable to locate package hadoop-0.20-conf-pseudo
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'hadoop-0.20-conf-pseudo'
Would you please let me know what causes the problem?

Difficulty installing Laravel 4 and phpmyadmin on an amazon EC2 instance

So, I installed Laravel 4 on an amazon EC2 instance by following this tutorial:
Basically, my steps included:
———- Installing Apache ———-
$ sudo apt-get install apache2
———- Installing PHP ———-
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5
———- Installing PHP Mcrypt ext. ———-
$ sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt
———- Installing MYSQL ———-
$sudo apt-get install mysql-server
———- Installing GIT ———-
$ sudo apt-get install git-core
———- Laravel GIT Repo ———-
sudo su
mkdir laravel
cd laravel/
git clone https://github.com/laravel/laravel.git
———- Installing Composer ———-
curl -sS https://getcomposer.org/installer | php
php composer.phar install
Now, I am trying to install phpmyadmin on the EC2 instance, and I am at a loss on how to go about doing it. I am a newbie
So should I install it in the laravel folder?
I have tried this:
downloading the phpmyadmin file
sudo wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmyadmin/files/phpMyAdmin/3.3.9.1/phpMyAdmin-3.3.9.1-all-languages.tar.gz
unzipping
tar -jxf phpMyAdmin-3.4.1-all-languages.tar.bz2
renaming
mv phpMyAdmin-3.4.1-all-languages phpmyadmin
Obviously it is not done, and I dont think I am doing this at the right folder. Please help anyone?
PhpMyAdmin has nothing to do with Laravel and isn't required at all; you can manage your MySQL database using the command line client, the MySQL workbench or PHPMyAdmin running on a remote computer (assuming it can connect to your DB running on your EC2 instance).
I would recommend not installing PHPMyAdmin as it's always a target for vulnerability scanners and can be vulnerable (plus it's one more thing to keep up to date).
If you still want to use it then extract its tar file somewhere else (not in Laravel's directory), and then change your Apache configuration to redirect something like "/pma" or "/phpmyadmin" to that directory.
If you're using Ubuntu, then you can just install PhpMyAdmin with the package manager, with this command :
sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
Just follow the instructions, enter your MySQL root password when asked and that's it, your Apache configuration will be updated automatically, and then you can access it on http://server/phpmyadmin.
See the PhpMyAdmin article in the Ubuntu documentation.

Installing cloudera impala without cloudera manager

Kindly provide the link for installing the imapala in ubuntu without cloudera manager. Couldn't able to install with official link.
Unable to locate package impala using these queries :
sudo apt-get install impala # Binaries for daemons
sudo apt-get install impala-server # Service start/stop script
sudo apt-get install impala-state-store # Service start/stop script
First you need to get the list of packages and store it in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/, then update the packages, then you fire the Impala queries.
At the terminal do the following:
cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
wget http://archive.cloudera.com/impala/ubuntu/precise/amd64/impala/cloudera.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install impala # Binaries for daemons
sudo apt-get install impala-server # Service start/stop script
sudo apt-get install impala-state-store # Service start/stop script
Have you installed the correct list file?
See "Packages and Repositories" on page 14.
