I am unable to install or open up the Setup Log.
Trying to install on Windows 8.1 Enterprise

I just downloaded VSCodeSetup.exe and the installation failed with an error dialog when I ran it on Windows 7.1 SP1.
I then right clicked on the VSCodeSetup.exe file and used 7Zip to extract the archived files to a VSCodeSetup folder, with the resulting files:
Mode LastWriteTime Length Name
---- ------------- ------ ----
----- 4/22/2015 8:28 AM 140782 background.gif
----- 4/27/2015 6:22 PM 60255967 Code-0.1.0-full.nupkg
----- 4/27/2015 6:22 PM 74 RELEASES
-a--- 4/30/2015 9:25 AM 1911 SquirrelSetup.log
----- 4/24/2015 11:12 AM 1492992 Update.exe
I then opened PowerShell (a CMD window would also work). I cd'd into the VSCodeSetup folder and ran the following command:
PS>.\Update.exe --install=.
Installation completed successfully and Visual Studio Code opened.
Hope this helps.

Visual Studio 2019 Installer keep failing to download package for offline installer?

I follow this instruction to create an offline installer for Visual Studio 2019.
I rerun the following cmd several times already:
vs_enterprise.exe --layout c:\vslayout --lang en-US
But after a long time of verifying packages, it keeps giving me the error:
...

I try downloading the Linux.GCC.arm_none_eabi with cmd:
vs_Enterprise.exe --layout c:\test --add Linux.GCC.arm_none_eabi --lang en-US
But it gave me the error:

But if I enter the url https://aka.ms/AA9z5w0, I can download the file gcc-arm-none-eabi-9-2020-q2-update-win32.zip so the link does work, but how can I add the final missing piece to my offline installer?
My question is how can I solve this error so that I can have the complete offline installer?
My current solution is create the folder c:\vslayout\Linux.GCC.arm_none_eabi,version=9.3.1 and put the file gcc-arm-none-eabi-9-2020-q2-update-win32.zip in it. But I wonder if this is the right way to solve it.
Update: My current solution works, after I manually download and put it into the offline installer, I re-run the cmd to verify the packages and it give me the OK result:
Total packages to download: 0
Starting 'UpdateLayout' operation
Setup completed successfully.
Press any key to continue...
The error said:
Error: Package 'Linux.GCC.arm_none_eabi,version=9.3.1' failed to download from '
https://aka.ms/AA9z5w0'.
So in Firefox browser, enter the url https://aka.ms/AA9z5w0, then I can download the file gcc-arm-none-eabi-9-2020-q2-update-win32.zip
Create the folder c:\vslayout\Linux.GCC.arm_none_eabi,version=9.3.1 and put the file gcc-arm-none-eabi-9-2020-q2-update-win32.zip in it.
After I manually download and put it into the offline installer, I re-run the cmd vs_enterprise.exe --layout c:\vslayout --lang en-US to verify the packages and it gives me the OK result:
Total packages to download: 0
Starting 'UpdateLayout' operation
Setup completed successfully.
Press any key to continue...
Success!!!
I checked your command line(vs_enterprise.exe --layout c:\vslayout --lang en-US) and it is good, without any error. Not sure, but the prompt error may be caused by Microsoft Server side or CDN provider.
In my mind there were some similar issues reported before, which also mentioned "Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel…" or "Package XXXXX failed to download from XXXXX", like this thread, and this thread.
The solution you mentioned, maybe not a really "correct" solution, as this maybe a potential issue, but as you downloaded the package from the prompt link and it passed the verification, the installation should be good and complete.
Your solution is helpful and may benefit other forum members who meet the same/similar issue, so I just make a
summary:
Create a folder and name it with the name that error message mentioned, and then download the file/package from the link which error message prompt. Put it to this folder. Verify the installation by using command --verify.

Epson JavaPOS ADK Install not completing

In trying to install the Epson JavaPOS ADK the program never finishes. Looking at the log file seems that the program is looking for files that do not exist, and therefore cannot manipulate them. After installation "completes" the file C:\opt\EpsonJavaPOS\Uninstall_Epson JavaPOS ADK_1.14.0.0\.com.zerog.registry is created. Not sure what I've done to mess this up.

JavaPOS ADK v1.14W
There are bug fixes that may be involved in JavaPOS ADK 1.14.3W.
[Bug fix]
- The bug is fixed that the installation of JavaPOS ADK fails in the latest Java VM on Windows10.
The latest version is 1.14.6 W, so please try it.
EPSON JavaPOS ADK (for Windows OS) Ver. 1.14.6W
for me, i found out that the installer does not play nicely with Java 8 and Windows 10. After I used Java 7 as the parameter for LAX_VM, it installed correctly. You may need to switch to another user if the installer keeps skipping installation steps though.

Need help understanding error "manifest is not in the package root" while registering Windows 10 package

I am trying to register the Windows 10 Edge package with Windows Server 2016. I have successfully installed the store thanks to a forum I found and it opens but remains untested. I am trying to do the same with Edge. I've copied the app package from the installer iso to C:\Windows\systemapps and ran the power shell script:
Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\windows\systemapps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode
And get the following error:
Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF9, Install failed. Please contact your software vendor.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073CF9)
Rejecting a request to register from Appxmanifest.xml because the manifest is not in the package root.
NOTE: For additional information, look for [ActivityId] a80e1223-2787-0000-dc3e-12a98727d301 in the Event Log or use
the command line Get-AppxLog -ActivityID a80e1223-2787-0000-dc3e-12a98727d301

I've verified the manifest is in the package root so other than that I can't figure out what it means. Can someone help me understand what it's looking for?
Reference for store install: http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/72904-Install-Microsoft-Store-and-Apps-on-Windows-10-LTSB-2016
I was just trying to do the same thing and I have found if I copy the app to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps then it installs without complaining about not being in the root and then the Edge icon also appears on the start menu.
The command to run is:
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml"
Whilst this allows the app to install and I am able to launch it from the start menu it closes after about 2 seconds and looking in the log (Application and Service Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Apps\Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational it shows this error so it looks like there is still something else that needs to be done to get this working:
ActivateApplicationForContractByAppIdAsUserWithHost of the app Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge for the Windows.Launch contract failed with The app didn't start..

I found it difficult to add to the win apps folder but figured out as long as the location of the apps you want to add are located in a folder named C:\Program Files\WindowsApps* it will work. I use a folder named “WindowsApps-Import” in the programs folder, works well!
One answer suggests adding the -DisableDevelopmentMode flag to the command you've ran, which works, but leaves an important point out.
Once the app installs, it won't run and crashes soon after. This is because the ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES group doesn't have access to the folder of the app. Giving ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES full control of the app folder will allow it to run.
Move the folder inside: "C:\Users$USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages" then it works. Obv developer mode on windows needs to be ON.
for eg:
Add-AppxPackage -Register "C:\Users\Amit\AppData\Local\Packages\WsaPackage_1.7.32815.0_x64_Release-Nightly\AppxManifest.xml"

Visual studio installer doesn't start correctly

I just had to change my HDD. So I installed a version of Windows 10 Education on my computer, and now I'm trying to install Visual studio 2017 community/enterprise ( tried both ). After running the installer which was downloaded from the official website it doesn't start the installation, I just see for a tiny amount of time a small window pop but then it instantly shuts. What could be the reason for this behavior and how to fix this problem?
Edit: I can install other software, I managed to install a few other programs without a problem, I notice this behavior only with Visual studio and additionally .NET Framework installer.
Edit2:
I found this in my temp folder :

Edit 3: THANKS MICROSOFT you really screwed me up huh.
Edit 4: After full Windows reinstall with the latest version still getting this error.
Edit 5: Changed windows version from education to professional and it works!
Had the same issue. I was running installer from my /Download folder.
Try move the installer to D: drive, it helped me.

Driver Installation Issue with Installshield

I am just trying to install using Installshield 2009 a demo driver written by me.
I wrote a demo inf file.
I also wrote a simple console application in VC++.
Then I wanted to install the application along with the drivers and so I created Basic MSI Project and added my application exe to it.
After this I added my inf file to it using Device Driver Wizard(located in Set Up Design >>> New Feature) where installshield also added the .sys and .cat files.
Now the problem is that when I run the generated msi file it only installs the application and the driver does not installed.
During installation it gives me a Windows Security window and when I clink on "Install this driver software anyway" it proceeds ahead for install completion.
But the are no drivers in system32/drivers and no entried in registry.
The demo driver contain just basic driver functions with printfs in them.
The inf contains:
[version]
Signature="$CHICAGO$"
Class=RKP_LTO_DEMO_DD
; GUID created by me usingGUIDGEN tool
ClassGuid={03E9C4D5-178E-4684-B407-A3E103D71CE9}

ClassName = "rkp xyz dd_demo"
DD_DEMO.DeviceDesc = "Rkp Xyz WI DIF Sample"
rto.SVCDESC = "RKP XYZ Device Driver"
RTO_DISK_NAME ="RKP XYZ Installation Disk"
The installshield install log gives the following message (0xE0000301):
DIFXAPP: INFO: ENTER: DriverPackageInstallW
DIFXAPP: WARNINGRIVER_PACKAGE_LEGACY_MODE flag set but not supported on Plug and Play driver on VISTA. Flag will be ignored.
DIFXAPP: INFO: Installing INF file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\DEMO\My Product Name\dd_demo\dd_demo.inf' (Plug and Play).

DIFXAPP: INFO: RETURN: DriverPackageInstallW (0xE0000301)
The driver gets installed when I install it using run32dll.exe.
I verified this by checking the system32/drivers folder and the seeing the registry entry.
But with installshield it does not install it.
Will anybody pls let me know what might be the issue and how to resolve it?
How to fix this issue?
