Cannot change file in Xcode project - xcode

When I launch one of my Xcode projects, I am presented the storyboard of the project. I can edit the storyboard, I can run the project on my device and simulator. But on changing to any other file from the project navigator or any other way (like opening any file of my project from finder), I get stuck with a rolling rainbow cursor which keeps on rolling till infinity (I have waited for as long as an hour) and I have to force quit Xcode. My other projects appears to work fine.
I have tried the following fixes:
Restarting my Mac
Reinstalling Xcode
Resetting Xcode Settings from http://ioslau.blogspot.in/2013/08/resetting-xcode-settingspreferences.html
I have Xcode v6.3 and Yosemite v10.10.3.
I don't want to recreate my project as it will suck time.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

This may be a known issue with the latest release of Xcode:
apple dev forum

The accepted answer and the apple dev forum didn't help me.
I am using a swift project with no IB and no Storyboard.
What I did was, close Xcode, restart the mac, open the Xcode not from the app but form the .xcodeproject file. It worked.

For me, the solution was to make a copy of the files that were uneditable, delete the original files from the Xcode project and drag the duplicates in.

Xcode 10 storyboard UI components are not visible and painfully slow?

My code was working fine (showing UI properly) when I had Xcode 9 and I removed it from the application folder (could not update as it had installed using another apple id) and reinstall the Xcode 10 from the Appstore.
Now Xcode storyboard not showing any added UI elements colors or anything and I removed Xcode 10 and installed Xcode 9 again but problem remains same.
UI screen shot of storyboard.
I tried removing Xcode in this way:
/Applications/Xcode.app
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.dt.Xcode
~/Library/Application Support/Xcode
~/Library/Developer/Xcode
~/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator
Then I tried installing macOs Mojave and install XCode 10 again from the Appstore. Issue still remains. I tried cleaning derived data, xuserdata and everything.
Try cleaning your project using "Command + K"
and run your project again!
Hope it works!
I encountered the same issue that you are facing in my case i had xCode 10.0 installed and everything was working fine. As soon as I installed version 10.1 I faced the same issue that you're facing but the good thing was i had xCode 10.0 installed at the same time so I switched back and everything was working fine.
From my point of view my system(Mac-mini mid 2011) was lacking hardware specification that was required for xCode 10.1 also had very low graphic processor in my mac mini. If you install the same version in a MacBook or any other system having higher specification you'll face the issue. I hope that helps.
I was stuck on this all day. One of my coworkers suggested removing occurrences of IB_DESIGNABLE & #IBDesignable. This fixed the issue for me. It still lags sometimes but doesn’t go invisible anymore.
If you have multiple xib files then just try to switch between or Try moving to launchScreen storyboard and then switch to main storyboard. I think this is just loading issue.
Reinstall Xcode. That worked for me.
Click on library button(Circular Button) which is left to hamburger sign(Top Bar Right Side). Elements will be popup on your screen then you can choose elements.
try
xcrun simctl erase all
it helped me with the same problem

Xcode Changes Contraints Of Layout By Itself After Reopening The Project

I set the constraints of layout properly and also tested it on every device. But the next time I open the project, Xcode just ruined the constraints totally.
How did this happen?
May be the project has a problem and for some reason it is not saving the changes. I have indeed put this solution on my troubleshooting book about Xcode from Apress (shameless advertising... 😃). I have seen this before.
Backup your project and try this:
Quit Xcode
Using finder, right click on the .xcodeproj file of your project and select Show Package Contents.
delete everything from that except the file project.pbxproj.
open the project again fix the constraints and see if the changes are saved the next time you open Xcode.
You did not specify you Xcode version, but my own experiences with code, that is developed using Xcode 8 Beta 1 to Beta 6: The problem may be caused by bug in XCode.
The explanation, if you use Xcode 8 Beta, could be:
New Xcode offers new storyboard-display logic, that shows different difficulties still in Beta 6
After fixing both constraints and frames automatically / manually, warnings come back again after reopening project
This problem moves from Xcode Beta 2 to Beta 6 after my own researches
Let's give Apple a little more time to fix the issues and let's wait until Apple releases GM Seed. It's only beta though

Xcode 5 crashing all the time when trying to open a particular project

When I try to open a particular projects target settings in xcode 5 it crashes. When I try to open it in Xcode 4 versions its fine.

This got fixed with today's update to the OS. I am using OSX Mavericks!. Make sure to update.
Good luck!
Reverting project file changes and resetting the workspace worked for me: https://stackoverflow.com/a/9494112/974531

Xcode 5 - "iOS Simulator failed to install application" every time I switch simulators

Using Xcode 5 GM, anytime I switch to the 5.1, 6.0 or 6.1 simulators to test, I get the error "iOS Simulator failed to install application." When I reset the simulator it works, but this is getting very tiring.
Anybody have a permanent fix or workaround?
Looks like this is a known issue. From the Xcode 5 release notes:
After switching the minimum deployment target of an application from
iOS 7.0 to a release prior to iOS 7.0, building and running the
application may fail with the message “iOS Simulator failed to install
the application.”
Go to the iOS home screen, click and hold the application icon, then tap the hovering “X” button to delete the application. 13917023
Another release note:
iOS Simulator
If an iOS app is detached, relaunching the same app from Xcode will
result in a black screen in the Simulator even though the new app is
launched. Terminate the app in the Simulator or relaunch it for the
second time. 14648784
Delete the old version app in your simulator (usually iOS 6.x).
Alternatively, header over to iOS Simulator - Reset Content and Settings.
This can be easier when you have a lot of apps on the simulator and can't remember which one you're currently working on.
You need to do this for every iOS Simulator version that causes the problem.
None of the other suggestions worked for me. However, after comparing my existing app settings to a new vanilla project, I noticed that the "Build" field for my Target was blank. Once I put something in that field, the app installed just fine!
if you have already developed project and you used xib to develop views then
X-Code > Inspector Selector Bar > Interface Builder Document > opens in > and change from Xcode Default(5.o) to Xcode 4.6 .
Build and Run your app it will run successfully, if it won't run again then, header over to iOS Simulator - Reset Content and Settings. delete old app from simulator then Run again.
i got the same problem but solved by following way....
Launch the iOS Simulator
Go and click "iOS Simulator" menu
Click "Reset content and settings"
Close simulator and rebuild your app.
Above screen shot is showing the way how you can do this...
I think this works for you...!!!
Deleting the app in the simulator works for me.
just wanted to add that this happen only if I open xib that created in xcode 4.6
If it's other files, this not happen
try this ....
in my case nothing have worked for me , after resetting the content simulator also , i am not able to install the app on simulator . after that i just changed my project location . i just moved the project to other location . then it installed successfully.
None of the above things worked for me. I just reinstalled xcode and it worked.
Ran into this issue today. Found it was an empty Reference Folder (blue folder) causing this. Removed the folder from Resources in Build Phase... cleaned build folder for the heck of it, and it went away.
/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Developer/Xcode/ --> remove all contents of this folder, then simply launch the app from Xcode.
To check your Executable file settng ex.$(EXECUTABLE_NAME)
(Project setting - info property page)
I have different issue when getting error message “iOS Simulator failed to install application”, the reason is because I have added a property in App-Info.plist without any value. For instance, [Application Category] with no value. Thus the error will show up as well.
When I got this error, the image of the phone actually appeared, but the image of the app I wanted to test did not. Instead, I was on the main page of the phone that shows the apps you have. I fixed this problem by deleting the many icons that appeared on the start screens - about 30 of them. These had been created when I testing apps over the months. So, not saying its a solution, but it started working after I deleted the old app images.
For me it was -framework XCTest.
It made the app die with iOS Simulator failed to install application
and on the device Could not inspect the application package.
Removed it and now works.
You are using Xcode GM which is under beta stage. Use latest Xcode 5.1.1 available.
Also, these error occur while switching between simulator (32 bit and 64 bit).
Quit the simulator and re-build the application. OR
Reset simulator from "iOS simulator" -> "Reset content and settings.."
I changed my app name and bundle id midway. I happened to delete the Executable File name in my plist. I changed it back to "${EXECUTABLE_NAME}" (no quotes) and I'm back in business.

Xcode 4.3 getting freeze at startup

I have installed Xcode 4.3 version. I can't click on any button of the Xcode bar, because Xcode freeze at startup, and if i move the cursor on the bar, i have only the loading cursor available. So i can't click on Window Tab to restore the Welcome Window, and i can't open a new project.
It seems that Xcode is not loading any project, and maybe it is the problem it has not found any project, and it continues to search anyway. If I try to launch an existing project, Xcode tries to open it, but the result is always the blank window with "No Editor".
Please help me to come out from this issue or any one please tell me how can I remove all the logs, settings and back up files of Xcode
Thanks in Advance
I solved the problem :) Simply download and install the latest version of iTunes, it's fixed :) Now i can work with Xcode. I dont know whats the connection between Xcode and iTunes. Cheers....
