I want to pre-open HTTPS connections (using a proxy) to every server that is linked in a Webpage, so that when a User clicks on a link the connection to the server has already been established.
Anybody got a hint how to achieve this with Firefox Addon SDK? I think I have to use a content script first to parse the Webpage for the links and then connect to every server using the '#mozilla.org/network/socket-transport-service' class?
use HTML5 rel="prefetch" or rel="preconnect" attribute on the link. IDK if this will work because the addon has to fire before the content is parsed as the DOM to take effect

I don't know why creating firefox addons is difficult. Maybe it's not my duty to create a new addons for company.
After 2 week in searching how to create firefox addons, I should say I don't know.
We need a simple addons for sending url of visited site to our server with a little information.
It should have a form with some fields : title, description and a selection area with submit button.
When clicking submit it should send these information with url of this page to our server.
How can I do this?

I am developing an addon using Firefox's Addon SDK (v. 1.11). My extension dynamically creates an iframe on each website and then loads an html file which includes other resources such as images, font files, etc. from the add on's local directory.
Problem
When loading any of such local resources (i.e.: "resource://" schema), the iframe fails to display them and a message is thrown:
Security Error: Content at http: //www.XXX may not load or link to
resource://XXX
This is a security measure introduced on Firefox 3. When developing without the Addon SDK, the way around it is declaring a directory with "contentaccessible=yes", making the directory's contents accessible to anyone, including my add on. However, I have not been able to find similar functionality using the Addon SDK. Is there a better way of using local data on an iframe that my addon creates and inserts into a page?
I don't think you can directly load an iFrame that points to a resource inside your URL. The browser complains because it's either breaking same origin policy or cross site scripting one. I can't remember which one right now.
if it is html content you want to load you can always inject it into the DOM and then send a message to the document object using the events API to display your custom html. I've done this in the past and it works.
so from main.js send a message to content script which will then inject your iframe html into the DOM and then you can send the document object a message to display it.

Not sure if this was the case when you posted the question, but it appears that "resource://" should no longer be used with the Addon SDK.
If you're using the resource inside of an HTML file in the extension, you can reference it locally, otherwise you should use data.url('whatever.jpg') and pass around that value as needed.

I want to create a Firefox Extension which will display a webpage. It will be like user should write a something in browser like "about:" or even a button would do ?
How can i load the WebPage in Firefox. The user should have a feel that a webpage is being loaded.
PS: I have javascript and CSS in that Page.
If i cannot make then what changes do i need to make in the web page for that change.
I also want to connect to a server and fetch XML data and want to display process that data and and display it on the page. I am developing this extension as my page is static and HTML/Javascript does not allow cross domain queries. I hope that cross-domain queries are possible if i use extension.
There is Browser XUL object that acts a an standalone browser. You can load any document inside that.

I am trying to include a picture on an external server.
PROBLEM HERE: my home website is using https:// and the picture on the external server is just http. The picture is fine (tested) but IE seems not to allow to access http:// sources when on a https:// website.
I am looking for html or javascript code to allow access for loading pictures from other domain WHEN my home domain is HTTPS and my external domain is HTTP

I'm afraid this is a feature of the browser. When you enter a page like this on IE and some other browsers, it will give the user the option to disallow "unsecured" elements on the page (this includes elements served over HTTP); and will not display them. Your page cannot override the users' action.
I have some pages that are sent via HTTPS. Internet Explorer sometimes complains about "This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS".
I looked in the html source to confirm all content calls (href, src, etc...) are sent via https. My CSS files use relative paths. But I'm still getting these warnings.
Is there an easy way to track down which items are not sent via HTTPS?
You could fire up Fiddler to see what exactly IE is requesting over regular HTTP.
In Fiddler's default configuration, HTTPS requests will show up with a lock and CONNECT as the host. HTTP requests will have a non-lock icon.

I usually use Firefox + Firebug (the "Net" tab) to find the offending request. You could also use Fiddler for this. (with any browser)

It's a free online tool that crawls a website recursively (following all internal links) and scans for unsecure content - images, scripts and CSS.

In Google Chrome, similar to Firefox w/ FireBug, you can use the 'Network' tab of the Developer Tools console.
Open the Developers Tools console, go to the 'Network' tab, and reload the target page. Any warnings with the page, such as insecure content being loaded, will be indicated with the number of warning and an 'alert' icon in the bottom right corner (Chrome v23.x). Click on the icon and a list of the warnings, in this case, the resources being loaded insecurely, will be displayed.
