How to run windows phone 8 emulator without visual studio? - windows

Is there anything like ' Android SDK Manager ' for windows to run windows phone 8 emulator? Or is it possible to run it only by using visual studio ?
Thanks in advance.

You can do it by run their execution file :
step 1 - Use Win + R
step 2 - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\8.1\XDE.exe"
or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\8.0\XDE.exe"
which emulator you want run just changed it to 8.0/8.1

Visual Studio Build for windowsphone error : (XapDeployCmd.exe) didn't found

I build and emulate my cordova app in android device and VisualStudio Android Emulator successfully in Visual Studio.
But when I try to build and deploy my app to windowsphone device I got this error that said the file "XapDeployCmd.exe" does not in %PATH%
ERROR: Error executing ""XapDeployCmd" /enumeratedevices":
'"XapDeployCmd"' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
WARNING: XapDeploy tool (XapDeployCmd.exe) didn't found. Assume that it's in
%PATH% and deploy fails.
When I referred to the path that I must find the file "XapDeployCmd.exe" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.0\Tools\XAP Deployment" I saw there is one file there: "XapDeploy.exe" and "XapDeployCmd.exe" is not there
so where is "XapDeployCmd.exe" ?
I'm using Visual Studio 2015 Community With Update 3 and I installed Windows Phone SDK 8.0
Tools for Apache Cordova only supports deploying to Windows devices 8.1.
To deploy to Windows 8, you need Visual Studio 2013 which has a completely different project structure, and I don't recommend using it.
Most users who are on a version of Windows 8 tend to be on version 8.1
As I stated before، I had installed Windows Phone SDK 8.0 .
with installing Windows Phone SDK 8.0 , Visual Studio 2012 will be installed.
But the file "XapDeployCmd.exe" is not with this version of visual studio.
Installing Update 5 (update 2 or later) of visual studio 2012 will install "XapDeployCmd.exe" with itself. Visual Studio 2012 Iso and problem will be solved.
after solving this problem if you encounter with error like 'Exception from HRESULT: 0x89721800' , refer to this article

Windows 10 Emulator - XDE Parameters .. Where are they

I have Visual Studio 2013 professional edition installed on Windows 10 64 bitPRO. So far the Windows Phone 8 Apps used to create, launch and debug fine.
Then I went ahead and downloaded Windows Phone 10 version emulators to visual studio 2013. it actually created some new Emulator entries (visible on Debug menu now).
However, when I launch the Windows phone 10 image from Visual studio, i get an error below
============================
[Window Title]
XDE.exe
[Content]
The VHD file C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\%CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILESX86%\Windows Kits\10\Emulation\Mobile\10.0.10240.0\Flash.vhd does not exist.
[Close]
Little more troubleshooting indicated that the XDE tool is not able to resolve this environment variable %CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILESX86% somehow.
Full Command was below
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\8.1\XDE.exe" /name "Emulator 8.1 WVGA 4 inch 512MB.myuser" /displayName "Emulator 8.1 WVGA 4 inch 512MB" /vhd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.1\Emulation\Images\Flash.vhd" /video "480x800" /memsize 512 /diagonalSize 4 /language 409 /bootlanguage 409 /creatediffdisk "C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XDE\8.1\dd.480x800.512.vhd" /snapshot /fastShutdown
When I tried to run this command with resolved variable name, XDE launched fine # individually #. (make sure you launch via Command Prompt; Windows Run prompt does work for some reason).
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\10.0.10240.0\XDE.exe" /name "Mobile Emulator 10.0.10240.0 WVGA 4 inch 512MB.myuser" /displayName "Mobile Emulator 10.0.10240.0 WVGA 4 inch 512MB" /vhd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Emulation\Mobile\10.0.10240.0\Flash.vhd" /video "480x854" /memsize 512 /diagonalSize 4 /language 409 /bootlanguage 409 /creatediffdisk "C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XDE\10.0.10240.0\dd.480x854.512.vhd" /snapshot /fastShutdown
The Question is. Where are these parameters Stored for XDE .. i.e. , From where Visual STudio picks up these parameters and passes on to XDE ? ?
FYI. I have see suggested Windows 10 emulator issues, none of those match my problem. Searching on Bing / Google doesn't render much info too .
Any clues, it would help me keep Windows 10 development using Visual Studio 2013

Visual Studio Empty Cordova Multi Device Hybrid App Build Failure [error code 8]

Having tried to follow all advices, remedies and workarounds including removing and reinstalling the Multi-Device Hybrid Apps for Visual Studio CPT1 I still can't seem to do a successful build of the included "Blank App (Apache Cordova)" project.

Your kind help is very much appreciated, Thanks Ian
I just ran into this on one of my PCs and here's how I got it fixed:
Quit Visual Studio
Open the Android SDK manager by typing the Windows key and then "SDK manager", hit enter
Install Android Build Tools Rev 19 by checking the box next to it and clicking Install packages
Accept the license
Open Visual Studio and your project, then run it again
Jordan (Microsoft, Multi-Device Hybrid Apps tools team)
Finally the light bulb went on for me: The problem was the install batch files not being able to locate xcopy.exe and therefore the simple remedy was to just extend the path variable with
%SystemRoot%\system32;
The build now runs without further errors.
Thanks Jordan and Ian.
I ended up doing both.
I ran the Android SDK manager to install the Android Build Tools Rev 19 as well as some other updates.
I also added "%SystemRoot%\system32;" to the PATH environment variable.
Everything running as it should.

Where Can I Download Microsoft.Phone.WinJS.2.1?

I'm trying to make a universal Windows App with WinJS. I've downloaded the latest update to VS2013. The RC version. I've installed all the SDKs I can find. I've installed the WinLibJS_VSE.exe extension, as well. Funny thing about that one is that VS updates keeps saying that I didn't...
When I open up any of the sample universal WinJS apps - like the ones here http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/wpapps/Universal-Windows-app-cb3248c3 - I always end up with this error:
Could not find SDK "Microsoft.Phone.WinJS.2.1, Version=1.0". C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\12.0\bin\Microsoft.Common.CurrentVersion.targets
I tried finding this SDK on my machine, but I'm not finding it at all. Nor am I finding it online. I copied some SDKs from C:\Program Files (x86) into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs to no avail.
Any ideas?
The Windows Phone SDK should have been installed when you installed the Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate Update 2 RC.
The files should be located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\WindowsPhoneApp\v8.1\ExtensionSDKs\Microsoft.Phone.WinJS.2.1\1.0\DesignTime\CommonConfiguration\Neutral\Microsoft.Phone.WinJS.2.1\js
When you create a C# project, is it a Silverlight project or a Windows Runtime project?
Okay, I've been talking to the Visual Studio team about this.
Did you happen to install the "Visual Studio 2013 Extensions for the Windows Library for JavaScript"?
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40793
(In the Programs and Features list, it will appear as "Visual Studio Extension for Windows Library for JavaScript".)
If so, you'll need to uninstall it. The order for uninstall is:
Visual Studio 2013
Visual Studio Update 2 RC
"Visual Studio Extension for the Windows Library for JavaScript"
After the uninstall, reinstall in this order:
Visual Studio 2013
Visual Studio Update 2 RC
Of course, all of this assumes that you've already upgraded your development environment to Windows 8.1. These projects will only work on a Windows 8.1 machine.
I hope that this helps. If not, we can try something else.
The final release of Visual Studio seems to have resolved this issue.
http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs
I had the same problem and I tried all above none of them work. However the following worked for me:
1-) Uninstall Visual Studio extensions for Javascript
2-) Uninstall visual studio 2013
3-) Install visual studio 2013 with Update 2 RC from the following link (it is VS + update 2 bundled)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=42303
Above link is for Premium edition. Find the relevant link accoringly.
P.S It is quite lame that when you uninstall Visual studio , it doesn't uninstall some of its addins. And you have lot of remaining artifacts :(
Andy (and potentially others running into this issue)....
We are currently investigating into this issue to understand the root cause. If this issue is blocking you from development, the recommendation is to perform the following steps "carefully". If these steps do not help, then please let us know!
Uninstall Visual Studio 2013 from Programs and Features
Reboot machine if prompted
Delete or rename these folders-
I. \Documents\Visual Studio 2013
II. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0
III. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0
IV. \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
V. \AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
VI. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0
VII. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\8.1
VIII. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\
IX. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\WindowsPhoneAppx\
X. C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Phone Silverlight Kits
XI. C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Phone Kits
XII. C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\WindowsPhone
XIII. C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\WindowsPhoneAppx
XIV. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Phone Tools
Go to the registry editor (start >> run >> regedit) and remove/rename the following registries-
I. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
II. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
III. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
IV. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0_Config
Download the .iso image of Visual Studio 2013 preferably using the relevant MSDN account
Extract the .iso file by using an extraction tool, such as WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/winrar-x64-401.exe) remember to associate .iso extension with WinRar during its setup
Install Visual Studio 2013 using this extracted setup
Install the Visual Studio Update 2 RC from here: _http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42307
Check if the templates are appearing
You can then install the Windows Phone standalone SDK from here: _https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/downloadsdk or through the Visual Studio extensions.

256 MB emulator shortcut

Does anyone have the full command line that needs to go in the shortcut target to launch the 256MB emulator in the Windows Phone 7.1.1 CTP? The docs say to append " - 256 MB;" but that doesn't seem to work in my environment (Windows 7 / Visual Studio 2010 / WP 7.1 SDK and tools / 7.1.1 CTP SDK).
Try this command, replacing the path with the path on your machine:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\XDE Launcher\XdeLauncher.exe" "Windows Phone 7" "Windows Phone Emulator - 256 MB"
