Spring security autowire is not working - spring

Question

I am trying to implement a web application using Spring MVC 4. Currently, I am trying to get authentication working. It seems that the autowired annotation is working properly everywhere, but not my SecurityConfig class:

If I remove

from my SercurityConfig the server can be started, but of course it doesnt do much then.

UPDATE:
After following some of the advice i received here, i put a new web app on my tomcat server, which threw a completely different error message. So i deployed the discussed app again and the mentioned autowired problem disappeared, leaving me with the same error message as the other app. In my desperation i deleted the tomcat server, reinstalled it, and deployed this app again. The error message remains, the autowired problem is still gone ( i have no idea why). So here is the error message now:

Your SecurityConfig is probably getting scanned twice, once as you'd expect with all the other components/services/beans from your xml config:
<context:component-scan base-package="com.*" />
and again by itself in your SecurityWebApplicationInitializer, specifically:
public SecurityWebApplicationInitializer() {
super(SecurityConfig.class);
}
You should only pass a security config to AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer if you're using Spring Security by itself (or when there already isn't a Spring ContextLoaderListener already defined).
So your SecurityWebApplicationInitializer should simply be:
public class SecurityWebApplicationInitializer
extends AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer {
}
The second time it's scanned, it doesn't have any of the other beans defined in it's context that the AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer has created, therefore you're getting a dependency error.
