Instead of using DBRef, you can just use manual reference method for connecting two or more related documents. For example your struct can just look as below:

I'm learning REST API development with go and cant figure out how to go about getting user specific documents.
My use case is a typical get request that can fetch all the documents in a slice. However I want to be able to only fetch documents belonging to a user based on their ID such that a user of ID: 1 should not be able to get documents belonging to user of ID:2. How can I go about adding the userID parameters with gorilla mux and fetch desired data.

I am a bit late to the game with this answer, but you can define inverse relationships (belongs to) on the child models by doing this:

This uses the models from your question. A note on performance, the preloading in gorm isn't done via joins. It's done via additional SQL queries, the more nesting the more queries. If you have commonly executed preloading, it could be worth writing a raw query and a customer scanner to use an optimised query.

All the primary keys and Indexes are right . I have also tried puttin gorm:"primary_key" and sql:"index" in UserActivities no luck so far .
However if I replace UserActivities []UserActivity with UserActivities UserActivity then i get only one row which seems to be right but why UserActivities []UserActivity giving no results
use gorm built in model gorm.Model so that your not messing up the "ID" constant
The solution to your problem is very simple.
Rather than querying

Maybe this will help others - essentially I was trying to take a document with an embedded document and return a result set like I would do in SQL with a select a.LastName + ', ' + a.FirstName as Name, b.OtherData and in essence have a different 'table' / 'document'.
