There is no Coded UI project in Visual Studio 2015 for UWP and I can't find any documentation anywhere saying there is a plan to bring support.
Does anyone know if there is planned support it or have some alternative UI testing framework to work with Windows Universal?
I guess you can use this Coded UI Test Project (Universal Windows) which is under
File->New->Project->Templates->Windows->Universal-->Coded UI Test Project (Universal Windows)
for Coded UI project in Visual Studio 2015 for UWP.
Maybe an important information for other to come is. That it’s not possible to create such projects in the community version of visual studio. You need at least the enterprise version as mentioned here.
An update for anyone arriving at this question is that Microsoft are deprecating support for Coded UI testing after the Visual Studio 2019 release...
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/test/use-ui-automation-to-test-your-code?view=vs-2017
Coded UI Test for automated UI-driven functional testing is deprecated. Visual Studio 2019 is the last version where Coded UI Test will be available. We recommend using Selenium for testing web apps and Appium with WinAppDriver for testing desktop and UWP apps.
So, the suggested answer by Microsoft for automating UWP UI testing is to adopt Appium with WinAppDriver.

Visual Studio for Mac (formerly called Xamarin Studio) has a cool feature where you can easily create NuGet platform-specific multiplatform library projects.
However, VSMac doesn't know how to include Windows as one of the target platforms (only iOS and Android). I thought I would try creating a NuGet library project in VSMac (targeting only iOS and Android) and then have Visual Studio 2017 Windows add the Windows version, but VS2017Win can't even load the solution that VSMac creates ("This version of Visual Studio is unable to open the following projects.").
Do I just have to sit tight and wait for Microsoft to add this functionality to VS2017Win?
Do I just have to sit tight and wait for Microsoft to add this functionality to VS2017Win?
If I understand your question correctly, you want to create a cross-platform package that uses native APIs on iOS, Android, and Windows. This functionality has been supported on Visual Studio 2017 on windows. You can refer to the detail info from the document:Create cross-platform packages
Besides, since Visual Studio for Mac is still a preview version, many features need to be improved and added. If want to use Visual Studio for Mac to create the cross-platform package and include Windows as one of the target platforms, the current method seems to be only wait for Microsoft to add this functionality to VS2017 for Mac.
Hope this can help you.
I try to find out what is the best way to develop react app with .net web api as the api service.
I realized that using visual studio 2015 won't work since its lack of es6 support.
I really liked atom as the "client" side programming and visual studio 2015 but I foresee issues working with 2 IDEs opened, especially for those whose computer is not strong enough..
I have also heard of visual studio code but I don't have much experience with it and how exactly to debug in it.
Would like to here your suggestions, thanks
You can try to use Rider from jetbrains - A fast & powerful,
cross-platform .NET IDE.
I use that IDE daily and have support for ES6 and JSX Typescript and more.
Since Xamarin is now free and open-source, I installed its Visual Studio integration.
Everything looks fine with one exception - I can't figure out what I need to do to create a Mac App (not an iOS app).
Thanks
It's not possible to create Mac apps in Visual Studio.
See the requirements for developing for Xamarin.Mac here.
The 'official' answer from Xamarin posted on their forums is:
Right now, we have no items on our public roadmap related to
integration with Visual Studio. As you noted, developing for OS X
requires tight integration with Xcode, and you'd need to be in front
of a Mac anyway to test.
It has been an item of feedback we've received in the past, however.
Like all feedback, we'll consider it for future versions.
Right now, you can use Xamarin Studio community edition (if the
community edition license applies to you) or use your Visual Studio
Professional/Enterprise license.

I'm trying to set up some new developers to make apps for the Okuma control using the Okuma API and SDK. What environment should they use? I tried installing Visual Studio Express 2012 but it keeps giving an error looking for files during install. Also, what language should they use so they can work with the Okuma API?
The Okuma API is written using .NET 4.0 so you really have several options.
Normally I'd say Visual Studio express 2012 for desktop is best but I've seen problems putting it on Windows XP.
If you're using windows XP and aren't ready to invest in a full version of Visual Studio yet, I'd recommend Visual C# Express 2010. If you're more familiar with VB and don't want to switch, do the VB express verison.
All these (and the professional version) are available from

VS 2019 community edition is currently working fine for me doing this. I just have to choose which .net framework in the project settings. That was not listed in the prior answer in case anyone comes across this in the future.
Was hoping to use Visual Studio Ultimate trial to run load tests against the website being developed. All tutorials and walkthroughs seem to point to my ability to go to 'add->Web performance test' from the project. These nor any of the other Gui elements i've seen in youtube clips and the like appear here.
Is there anything that must be configured for me to utilize the load testing part of Visual Studio ultimate?
Thanks
Have tried:
Using the test dropdown menu.
Creating a new project
Creating a new project of a different type.
The underlying issue I believe is that i already had a version of visual studio installed.
Installed visual studio ultimate on a seperate computer and everything ran as expected.
Uninstalled Ultimate on the computer running both ultimate and professional and re-installed the service pack. This resolved the performance testing issue.
