How would one use awk to make this calculation of Queries per second (Queries/Uptime):
1146/2389
And print the result?
I'm grepping 2 results from a list of results and need to calculate items/second where 302 is the total item count and 503 the total uptimecount.
At this moment I'm doing
grep -Ew "Queries|Uptime" | awk '{print $2}'
to print out:
302
503
But here i got stuck.

You can use something like:
$ awk '/Queries/ {q=$2} /Uptime/ {print q/$2}' file
0.600398
That is: when the line contains the string "Queries", store its value. When it contains "Uptime", print the result of dividing its value by the one stored in queries.
This assumes the string "Queries" appearing before the string "Uptime".
Given your updated input, I see that we need to check if the first field is exactly "Uptime" or "Queries" so that it does not match other lines with this content:
$ awk '$1 == "Queries" {q=$2} $1=="Uptime" {print q/$2}' file
0.479699

I think the following awk one-liner will help you:
kent$ cat f
Queries 302
Uptime 503
LsyHP 13:42:57 /tmp/test
kent$ awk '{a[NR]=$NF}END{printf "%.2f\n",a[NR-1]/a[NR]}' f

If you want to do together with "grep" function:

Go DNS trouble with TCP transport fine with UDP

I've tried everything I can think of and I'm hitting a brick wall. I wonder if anyone is able to point me in the right direction or possibly spot the issue?
I'm having a go at writing my own DNS server for a couple of reasons, the main a learning experience.
A few things to mention:
I'm using Go
Using "gopacket" for the DNS packet de/serialisation
The server works as expected when using the UDP protocol
So after getting responses over UDP working I decided it was time to implement TCP. Below is a snippet of the code listening for the TCP incoming connections.

When I issue a dig command over TCP the server accepts the connection and passed the received byte data to the DNSHandle function (same as the UDP handler). The data seems to be very different of that when using UDP.

From RFC 1035 section 4.2.2:
4.2.2. TCP usage
Messages sent over TCP connections use server port 53 (decimal). The
message is prefixed with a two byte length field which gives the message
length, excluding the two byte length field. This length field allows
the low-level processing to assemble a complete message before beginning
to parse it.
Thus by treating DNS over TCP the same as DNS over UDP you are doing it wrong - in TCP a DNS message is prefixed with 2 bytes containing the length of the message.
This is needed since TCP is a byte stream and not a datagram protocol like UDP. This means that one cannot simply assume that exactly a single and full DNS message will be returned by c.Read(...). It might be possible that not the full message was received yet but also that more than one DNS message was received. Check the length prefix for this.

Find 4-neighbors using J

I'm trying to find the 4-neighbors of all 1's in a matrix of 0's and 1's using the J programming language. I have a method worked out, but am trying to find a method that is more compact.
To illustrate, let's say I have the matrix M—

which is fine because I'll be weighting the initial 1's anyway (and the actual numbers aren't really that important for my application anyway). But I feel like this could be more compact and I've just hit a wall. And the compactness of the expression actually is important to my application.
Building on #Eelvex comment solution, if you are willing to make the verb dyadic it becomes pretty simple. The left argument can be the rotation matrix and then the result is composed with +./ which is a logical or and can be weighted however you want.

How to merge rows if values in one column contains consective numbers and all other columns match

I have a very large file (~700M rows) and I would like to reduce the size by grouping mostly matching rows. Specifically, the file is sorted by fields 1 and 2 and I would like to group rows where field 2 contains consecutive numbers but all other fields match. If there is a gap in field 2 or if any other fields do not match the previous row then I would like to start a new interval. Ideally, I would like the output to return the interval range for the grouped rows and would prefer a solution that works in bash with awk and/or sed. I'm open to other solutions as well as long as they don't require re-sorting or other operations that might crash with such a long file.
The input file looks something like this.

In reality the file has more fields but all contain integers like fields 3 and beyond in the example. The ideal output will look like this, with first and last values from consecutive field 2 interval printed in output fields 2 and 3.

I found solutions group consecutive rows with matches in specific fields, but none that also look for consecutive integers in one field and not one that can return the range. One thought was using uniq with the -c flag while skipping the first 2 fields, then adding the counts to the value in field 2, but given the additional condition of requiring consecutive numbers in field 2 I'm not too sure where to start with this one. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I apologize for not originally adding my attempted code but my pipeline used the bioinformatics program bedtools and it kept getting killed for lack of memory, which wasn't something I expected to be troubleshot due to lack of pre-programmed functionality. I am an awk novice and didn't know where to start for an alternative pipeline for reformatting this type of file.
I doubt there is a standard tool like uniq -c for this. But you can use this custom awk script:

n is the the next anticipated record,
e.g. if the current line is abc 100 x y z then n=abc 101 x y z.
g is the group of records to be printed in case the next anticipated line n does not occur and the group ends.
s is the start number of group g, i.e. the lower bound of the interval.
{$1=$1} is only there to ensure that the field separators in the current line $0 and the generated line n are consistent, so that we can check equality using ==, or rather != in this case.
For your example, this prints

If I have an image where I am interested in the following pixels marked by 1. In an image I want to calculate a sum around this block. A sum of block is easy to calculate from an integral image but I don't want to do it for the whole image, since there is a lot of unnecessary computation.
One option that I can come up with is to search the minimum and maximum in horizontal and vertical directions and then take a rectangular portion of the image enlarged so that it will covered the block portion. For example +2 pixels each directions, if the block size is 5. But this solution still includes unnecessary calculation.
If I had a list of these indices, I could loop through them and calculate the sum for each block but then if there is another pixel close by which has the same pixels in its block, I need to recalculate them and If I save them, I somehow need to look if they are already calculated or not and that takes time as well.
Is there a known solution for this sort of a problem?
