I have been experiencing issues with VS 2013 Ultimate where students cannot Open Website files that are stored on a network share. There was no issue with VS2010 opening the same files.
The PCs are on our Students domain, they can access their files at anytime, it is only when opening from within VS 2013 that it locks up the application.
To get around this, I copied the files to the desktop and they opened fine, so it seems the application has issues with network share files. I asked the students to retry opening the file on the network share and it works. It is just initially it locks up.
Can you please advise if you know of any issues with the program that might cause this?
Thanks!!

Software has been tested on full install with all options and Update 2 included.
**Also installed Update 5, issue still remains

I copied all visual studio community 2022 files from one computer to another, it is working good in the first computer, in the second computer, when I launch it, everything work good but it required prerelease software license!.
I signed to new account and trying to check for updates but the error message ("we could not download updated license , check your network connection or proxy").
How can I solve this?
Can I copy the license code or file or whatever from the other computer which works good?
From visual studio 2019, the installation method has some changes. You can't copy visual studio from one pc to another directly. This way becomes more difficult than before. But still there are some ways to doing that. The best way which recommended in Microsoft documentation named offline installation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/install/create-an-offline-installation-of-visual-studio?view=vs-2022 this will help you find some workaround solutions for your issues.
I am trying to install Visual Studio 2017 Community edition on my Dell laptop running Windows 10 64-bit. I download the community web installer and run the .exe file. The program shows it's extracting some files, then asks for admin permission, which I give yes, and then I only get an icon on the taskbar as shown in the picture below. It does not seem to run or anything. Even opening a second instance comes to the same dead end.
I have also tried offline installation by downloading the files via command prompt. But again after one stage, the process opens this installer.exe file and comes to the same dead end.
I am not sure if I am missing any other installations, or any other supporting libraries are corrupted. I have searched in other forums where they suggest the problem occurring due to multiple display setup or dual graphics adapter, but my setup is nothing like that. I have only Intel HD graphics running on my laptop monitor.
I need VS 2017 badly and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit
I was able to run the visual studio installer somehow by changing the setup.exe to run in Windows 8 compatible setting. Now, after installing, if I run the VS 2017 application, I am getting the same kind of problem. I only get an icon on the taskbar, I dont get any VS 2017 Window.
After googling, I found a way to get the log file when the application starts. The xml document indicates 4 errors on startup. Looks like some components are unable to be loaded. I have no idea why. I am attaching the screenshot here of the log file showing the 4 errors. The entire log file - VS 2017 log file
I solved this problem of mine by re-installing the windows. I don't know what was the root cause of the problem earlier but I had other features like VPN not working properly in my OS so I figured that its high time I do it.
In Windows Explorer, whenever I try to open a folder that contains TypeScript files, explorer freezes and crashes. When I try to edit TypeScript files in Visual Studio, it allows me to do so until I save the file. When I save the file, Visual Studio crashes without any dialogs.
I tried completely removing anything Visual Studio related (uninstall, registry clean, etc.) and reinstalling. I also tried running Windows in safe mode, and/or running Visual Studio in safe mode, none of which work. Running Visual Studio as an administrator also does not work.
I know it is not an issue with the actual repo since these files work fine on several other developer machines. This functionality was working just fine a month ago, with no changes in updates or installed extensions.
I am running Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 (14.0.25431.01) on a Windows 10 64-bit machine. TypeScript Tools for Visual Studio is at version 2.2.1.0.
Please let me know if there are any logs I can provide, I'm not sure where to get them.
The following update fixes this issue:
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4015438).
This is as of March 20, 2017.
UPDATE:
Many people have reported this issue as being the result of Windows Update KB4013429. This affects all Visual Studio installations. To resolve the issue, simply uninstall this update and restart your PC.
Old "Solution":
I solved the problem by reinstalling/cleaning Windows.
I know that's not a very good answer, but I wasn't able to solve the issue otherwise. Disabling antivirus shields did not work, and neither did running in safe mode. I think something in the registry may have gotten corrupted during a Visual Studio reinstall. Would love to hear any actual solutions if anyone else comes across this problem in the future.
I deleted a lot of stuff in the Registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ts, and now I can at least view folders in Explorer that contains .ts files, but I still cannot right-click them.
The biggest problem for me and my colleague was that Git and Visual Studio was unable to overwrite .ts files sometimes ("permission denied"), and we couldn't delete them manually either.
I'm not quite sure this has solved the problem permanently for me, but it seems so at the moment:
I used Handle to determine that SearchProtocolHost.exe had locked my .ts file, and wouldn't release until a few minutes later.
A few Google searches later, and I have now disabled indexing .ts files in Windows Search. So far, no more locks!
Before I begin, I would like to note that I am running Windows XP SP3.
Recently, I noticed that my installation of MS Visual C++ 2008 Express would no longer create new projects, only open previously created ones. Please note that it has been able to create projects in weeks prior.
Rather than trying to find a solution for the 2008 version, I took the opportunity to upgrade to MS Visual C++ 2010 Express. After downloading and installing it, I encountered the same problem, only this time (will not create new projects), I noticed a message near the bottom of the window that read "Creating project '[project]'... project creation failed". I then uninstalled both versions (2010 and 2008), rebooted, reinstalled 2010, and... same problem.
I then followed this tutorial, where I (re)registered VsWizard.dll, then modified the owners of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\VsWizard.VsWizardEngine.10.0 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\VsWizard.WizCombo.9.0 to Administrators, and gave all users Full Control/Read permissions. This seems to be the solution that a number of other websites suggest, but it still did not help.
Thus, I am at a loss of where to go next. I, unfortunately, have no Restore Point to fall back on, so I need a different solution, if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had a lot of issues and frustration with solving this "issue", nothing worked.
I changed my default ProgramFiles directory to my D drive as my C drive runs a SSD. By monitoring the visual studio process, I discovered that it was looking for MSBuild / Microsoft.Cpp on my D drive (not on my C drive, where my operating system is located). This was what caused the issue.
I've gotten sick of having multiple Visual Studio Express Editions installed, so I decided to get the Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition... Luckily I haven't yet bought it.
I downloaded the VS2005 Pro Trial from microsoft's website (trust me, this was a hard to find link). I am encountering an error, however:
Error 1311.Source file not found: z:\vs\_186_RTL_x86_enu_CRT_Objs.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
[Retry] [Cancel]
I checked, double-checked, and triple-checked that the file DOES exist.
What I did was download the 2800MB .img file from microsoft's website, used microsoft's VCdControl program to mount it at mount point Z:. It does exist, and all the other files copied from the virtual disk just fine. What is causing this?
P.S.: If you're wondering why I am going through the trouble of using VS2005, it's because I'm stuck using windows on a 300MHz processor / 256MB ram system, running windows 2000 pro. 2005 is the last VS product year that works. Anything newer has either too high requirements, or does not support Windows 2000 any longer.
Thank you so much for the help, in advance.
(Erm, my computer just froze so it's now rebooting. Hopefully it continue where it left off... The screen, keyboard and everything locked me out entirely. Maybe the graphics card got nullified, there was blue lines at the top of the screen. Power button, ftw!)
UPDATE: Due to having to hard reboot, I had to re-start the VS2005 installation. It appears to be installing the Visual Studio 2005 component from scratch again, so it may or may not work this time. If anyone happens to know what caused the original error, it would be much appreciated if you'd post. Thank you! :)
UPDATE 2: Failed, again. Same error as above, missing that darned cab file. It's there, I can see it! >.<
UPDATE 3: I copied the "missing" cab file onto my hard drive from the virtual cd, and tried to extract it myself using a utility called "cabextract". It also claims the file cannot be found, yet it is clearly right there!
UPDATE 4: It appears more than one of my cab files are corrupt. I'm md5sum-ing all the files and matching them up with shsmith's md5sum list to determine how corrupt it is. :(
Are you able to copy that file to your local drive? Maybe there is an error reading the contents rather than finding the file.
Copy the VS folder from the image to your local drive and install from there.
There are a number of pages that discuss similar issues:

Do you have all the service packs and windows updates installed? I have a windows 2000 VM and ran the default install of VS2005 and it completed without any problem. But I had just installed IE6 and then all the available windows updates (had to download IE6 to get WU working).
What is the MD5 of your copy of that cab? Maybe your image is corrupt. Here is the MD5 of my copy:
