Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question but I'm having a tough time trying to setup server with PHP and Apache on my Windows 10 computer. The best tutorial I've found, this video, seems to work until I actually try to view the localhost "site" (not even sure if that's the right word) where "There's Nothing Here".
I'm concerned that it might be because I didn't use the exact same version of PHP and/or apache from the video causing some sort of compatibility error (I used the closest version of each to what was used in the video).
Is there something obvious I've missed here?
Please word your reply in relatively simple terms; not only am a newbie at coding, I imagine others trying to do this same thing in the future are going to be just as inexperienced.
If attempting to go to "localhost" doesn't bring up the "Index Of /" page like in the tutorial it is because the "DirectoryIndex" option in httpd.conf is set to index.php, meaning it will automatically redirect to that page if you go to localhost. It's like the default page that will be accessed. If you want to access the info.php file, you must type "localhost/info.php" in directly. think of the "Apache24/httpd" folder as the "Root" folder of your local server, and everthing in the "Root" directory is accessed with "localhost/NAME_OF_FILE"
It may also be possible that Apache is not starting up again automatically after your computer restarted. To make sure that Apache is running, you can run "ApacheMonitor.exe" found in "Apache24/bin." After running that check the notifications area (that little menu on the right of the task bar that you open up with the tiny arrow) and there should be a small symbol that looks like the icon of the ApacheMonitor application. The symbol should have a green arrow in it if it's running. Otherwise, left-click it and select start.
Another option is to download a more pre-built windows binary of Apache from one of the links on the Using Apache with Windows page. I recommend ApacheHaus. There is still set up required, but when I downloaded it and set it up on my windows 10 it seems to work fine.
I'm not a pro at server set up either, but I hope this helps.

I installed PgAdmin 5.5 version on my Windows 10 computer. Before PgAdmin was opening in default browser and there was an icon in the system tray. Now it runs as a native desktop app. I want to run it as before. Is it changed recently? Did i miss something?
Thank you.
A bit late to the party, but I had the same question (but for v6.x) and can't find much info about it either.
According to this thread in the pgAdmin_support mailing list the option to run just the server seems to be removed which is just flabbergasting.

The way to go probably is to use the Docker although I wonder how much overhead that will bring. That said, you can kind-of work around the lack of default web server by
adapting C:\Program Files\pgAdmin 4\v6\web\config.py so the built-in webserver listens on all network addresses and you can access it from the LAN like this:
DEFAULT_SERVER = '0.0.0.0'
when starting up pgAdmin in the 'application', in the menu go to File \ Runtime \ View log and scroll all the way down, it will have a line that reads something like Application Server URL: http://127.0.0.1:5555/?key=ad836827-6a30-483b-973a-bb2f11a0267e
replacing '127.0.0.1' with the name of your server should allow you to use that url to connect from any machine on your LAN to the pgAdmin service.
Note, you can minimize the pgAdmin 'application' but don't close it because doing so will also close the web-server.
I am not sure what tags to add on this question. I will describe my situation as well as I can.
I open the virtual hosts at the chrome, run the phpstorm, read php code. After I searching the question of the code, then I refresh the page, and I am in trouble.
It is so sudden which is never happened before. I tried to figure out what is going on, but I got nothing.
All I know is some links refers to localhost automaticly and I have no idea about it.
The problem website is https://www.iviewui.com/docs/guide/install as far as I know.
I press f12, switch to Network panel and get these.
It seems https://file.iviewui.com/dist/main.9011c9acade2093b2da7.css not works well, so I visit https://file.iviewui.com directly then it shows me Access forbidden! . Ok, I visit http://file.iviewui.com, and it really confuses me that it shows the same result of localhost.
However I am not put the website into hosts file.
I have doubted that it might be caused by the proxy plugin. I open another brower firefox, still get the same result.
Also doubted that it might be caused by the virus, but it doesn't make sense. Actually I did use the safemgr software and still got nothing.
Tried stoping apache of xampp and get ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED which means it really refers to localhost.
Before I ask this question, bootstrap website has the same problem.I was editing this question meanwhile I visited bootstrap website again and problem disappeared. I still don't know why and iView website still has the problem.
Tried restarting the computer and problem is still there.
Recently i installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Preview Ultimate on Windows 7. Everything went smoothly except now i can't access www.microsoft.com and www.skype.com anymore. Tried latest IE10 and FireFox, both show blank page when accessing the above mentioned web sites. Firefox in its left bottom corner shows that it is waiting for ajax.aspnetcdn.com.
I'd really like not to reinstall OS on my machine, so i'd appreciate any idea how to fix this. For myself i tried to stop Firewall service and disable MS Security Essentials runtime protection, neither helped.
PS: I can access www.microsoft.com and www.skype.com from another machine in the same local network
UPDATE: i am using tfs.visulstudio.com as my TFS server and it opens fine if i am not signed in. But once i am trying to log in it opens blank, like browser is waiting for something (the same as for microsoft.com and skype.com). Something related to live ID?
Don't think this is the website to post this kind of question but try uninstalling VS2013 preview because you think that's causing the problem. Search in Google for people getting similar problem. I also don't think it is VS2013 because I can't think of anyway of how VS2013 would somehow disable you from going to a certain website. Make sure the sites weren't down at the time or if you're having something kind of Internet server issues.
skype is owned by microsoft, so you can't enter both microsoft pages. This could be related with some kind of ISP (Internet Service Provider) and not with VS2013, or you can try rebooting your router. Last thing i would do is traceroute both address and see where they fall.
I wanted to write this as a comment but I don't have enough reputation yet. Anyway, obviously trying to uninstall the program and trying again would be a good start as already mentioned, but you should also look inside your hosts file for any weird redirections some virus of malware might have set up. It's located at "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" and you can open this inside notepad (might require notepad to be run as an administrator). Check to see if skype.com or microsoft.com are in there and are pointing to a different IP address. If they are you can just remove them and save the file (might require a restart to take effect). If still no luck you should try a livecd of a linux distro to make sure the problem is definitely inside your windows somewhere.
Let us know how it goes.
We are going to develop a client-server application where all the office documents will be stored on the remote server.
The problem is that users need to edit these docs very often.
The standard solution is:
download
edit locally
upload
But it is very inconvenient and would cause high traffic, cause docs are very large.
Is there any solution to edit documents right on server?
E.g. some remote OpenOffice installation which we can connect somehow?
Thanks in advance!
Unless you can give your users RDP sessions on Windows or VNC (or X windows?) sessions on Linux you're going to be stuck with downloading the document to edit locally (in one form or another) then upload again.
There may be some HTTP/browser based solution but because it's HTTP you're going be to pulling all of the document back to the browser to edit then posting back to the server, it pretty much defeats the purpose.
As pointed out by Kev, one solution would be some sort of remote access software to access a copy of OpenOffice.org running on the server. There is for example a VNC viewer that will run as a Java applet in a browser (http://www.realvnc.com/support/javavncviewer.html ), that might do the trick.
Another option would be a server-based office package, a la Google docs. There are some available, but none with the full feature set of OpenOffice.org, so this is probably only an option if you can restrict to that feature set. If you can, it could work quite well.
When I am making changes on my localhost, it is not working. I am on windows 7 but when I copy the file in which the changes were made, and try to execute them in Windows XP, its working. I as I asked someone who has a lot of knowledge on this and they said it is a configuration issue.
Someone else told me it was because of output caching, so I disabled everything and tried, even then there was no response. Can anyone tell me how do I go about it?
This was because of caching issue.
Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\IIS Configuration Manager, select Output caching, then add new rule with follow parameters:
Insert types of files, you are changing(.aspx,.php) in File name extension field and simply unselect all types of caching. Then restart server and it should work now
I could hardly understand your word, so I think your very first task is to make sure you understand IIS and how to start troubleshooting.
Without a clearer description on the problem, nobody can provide you useful information on how to resolve it.
If you like, open a support case with Microsoft support team and talk to the support engineer about your issue.
