According to the umbraco installation guide it is highly recommended that you delete the "install"-folder to prevent it from being accidently deployed to production.
I have installed Umbraco as a NuGet Package in Visual Studio but there are 3 install folders that I can find; one in the "Umbraco" folder, one in "Umbraco\Views" and one in "App_Data\Temp". Can someone tell me which one I should delete, or maybe all of them?
After the installation is complete you only need to delete the install folder which is located under the umbraco folder.
This contains the contents of the installation process.
The install folder under umbraco/Views only contains the html of the installation process.
You can remove this also but its not neccessary.
If you look in the install folder under App_Data/TEMP then this will be empty after the installation is completed.

You have to delete only install folder in the root. Another install folders should be removed automatically. Basically on latest Umbraco versions even root install folder is removing while install proces.

I'm attempting to create a package installer for our product. Previously we installed with a .dmg, and the process was to just drag it to the /Applications folder. Now we want it to install to /Application/Company/Suite/product.
Problem is: If we use the .pkg installer on a system that previously had our product installed it creates the folders, but installs the product over the old location.
How can I make the pkg installer do the following:
Remove the old version
Install new version to proper location
I've had very little experience with OSX - so maybe I'm just missing something? Also looking in the applications folder - it doesn't appear that anything else is installed to a subdirectory, is it unusual to do things this way?

EDIT2: OSX .pkg installer sometimes does not install .app file Does not apply. We didn't install with any package manager - so there isn't a previous entry.
EDIT3: We were using dmg, but are now moving to pkg.
So I found the answer.
In order to have it install to a new location:
The plist inside the app package (product.app/Contents/Info.plist) has an identifier "CFBundleIdentifier", these needs to be different from the old application. For instance ours was "Company.Product-Name", I've changed it to "Company.Product.Name". This will allow the new installation to go to the new location.
In order to remove the old installation:
I simply added this line to the preinstall script:
"sudo rm -Rf '/Application/Product Name.app'"

I need a terminal that will support svn on windows and I found that MobaXterm is one of them. However going to their plugin installation page which says:
To install these plugins, just download them and put them in the same directory than the MobaXterm executable.
So I downloaded it and put it in the file
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mobatek\MobaXterm Personal Edition however I still get the error message
Sorry: Svn is not included in this version of MobaXterm.
You can check online if you find a Svn plugin for MobaXterm

You need to go into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mobatek\MobaXterm Personal Edition or whichever edition you have and place the plugin there. Restart MobaXterm and it should work.
I normally collect all the plugins which I require from http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/plugins.html
Once the .mxt3 files are getting downloaded, I moved them to the installed folder where the MobaXterm_.exe is there.
After restarting MobaXterm, this will work like a champ.

Start MobaXterm terminal.
Type MobApt or apt-get. This will open MobApt package manager.
Once in the package manager, you have a variety of tools/commands that you can install by simply selecting and pressing Install/Update.
i know the question is old. but you should put the plugin into your home.
if you check the setting you see this is the home directory

witch is :
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\MobaXterm\home -- or whatever drive that u installed windows
i just installed the python plugin and it works fine
In Mobaxterm simply type : apt-get install subversion
Usable just right after installation. No need to restart.
Same for git.
Change the name of the .mxt3 file (that you downloaded) to .zip
Extract the files, get the .exe files you want from the bin folder
from the files you just extracted, and add them to the slash/bin
folder of the Mobaxterm (where there are more .exe files)
Restart
In order to finish your plugin installation, you need to restart MobaXterm. After restarting, type "svn" in the terminal and it should work.
Try run the command:
#unalias svn
When I saw $PATH and looked into its directories, there was no git.exe.
I downloaded git.mxt3 and put in program files (86) folder and restarted mobaterm.
After restart I can see a file named git.exe in my /bin folder. I am using Win7 (64 bit) and mobaXterm personal Edition v7.1 installed using windows installer (not portable )
MobaXterm already has a 'Packages' button where you can search for plugins and download them. You don't need to go to github and other places to find the necessary files. Just using the built-in search feature under the 'Packages' option at the top of MobaXterm.
Using Advanced Installer. When I build and run my install project, after the install there is a folder called MyCompany (equivalent to [Manufacturer]) located within the ApplicationData folder (which resolves to C:\Users\Joey\AppData\Roaming\ on my system).
Within that particular folder is another folder called MyProgram 1.0.0 (equivalent to [ProductName] [ProductVersion].
And within that folder is another folder called install. And within that folder is a file called setup.msi with a size of 1.17MB
I have no understanding of why this file and these folders are being created. Further, after I uninstall my app, they get left behind on the system, which means my app is creating garbage.
Can someone please explain why this is happening? And also...if I can't cause this to not be present in the file system while my app is installed, how can I avoid leaving it behind on the file system after I uninstall?

When you are building an EXE setup file, that is the default extraction folder for the EXE, where you can find all the resources during the installation. You can change it from Media page, "Extraction folder".
It is not deleted after uninstall due a bug in Advanced Installer, you can find more details and a workaround on the forums.
I'd like to remove an entire nuget package, and cleanly install it in my project again.
Sadly, for some reason it skips removing files that have been "modified", and then skips putting them in the project on reinstall, because they already exist.
Is there any flag i can set to unconditionally remove every single trace of a nuget package, alternatively overwrite all existing files?

Unfortunately at the moment, NuGet does not do what you want. During the uninstall process, NuGet will only delete content files if they have not been modified. And as you've noticed, the update process will not update files that were modified either.
The Uninstall-Package command does have a -Force option, but that is to "force" uninstall even if there are other packages that depend on this one.
We can certainly file this as an issue and perhaps incorporate it into a future version.
Another option would be to create a PowerShell script that will enumerate a package's contents, then allow you to delete all the content files. I'll see if there is a simple way to do this.
BTW: Perhaps you can figure out a better way to extend the existing content file other than modifying it directly. Especially since you're losing your changes when the package is updated.

You need to first update to the latest NuGet (I think this feature was added around April 2013). Do this by going to Tools > Extensions and Updates and click on Updates to update nuget.
Then the -FileConflictAction parameter will allow you to overwrite files.

if the update of the extension fails (signatur missmatch), just uninstall and reinstall. this is a known problem.
I think this happened to me a few times. Go to the packages.config file that should be the root directory of your project and remove the insurgent (in your case the line with the package: SignalR). This will tell NuGet that the package was never installed.
Now you will be able to reinstall it through the repository, then uninstall it so everything is back to the way it was before you got into this mess. I am unsure how it is occurring.
I have been writing my own joomla extension and I am finding it annoying that every change I make, I have to zip my package up again, then uninstall the old one, then install my new package. I know I can edit in the joomla directory but is there a better way? Has someone already written something to take care of this? Thank you
This is Joomla 1.5
You can install your extension once and then can make changes in code in files of your extension. You need to not to uninstall or install it again.
Or
use <install type="component" version="1.5.0" method="upgrade"> this line of code in XML file of your extension installer. Then you need not to uninstall the extension, just install it over existing. It will over-write the files of installed extension with new one.
Once your component is installed Joomla puts your component files in the correct directories. You just need to replace those files with the ones you have made changes on either via FTP or on your local computer if you have Joomla running locally.
