Visual Studio 2015 and 2013 debugger not working after page refresh - visual-studio-2010

I'm not sure what has changed but I can't debug a web site with VS 2013 or 2015 without issues. I can debug a site with 2010.
Here's what is happening:
I build the site and click debug. I set a break point on page 1, and a break point on page 2. The break point on page 1 will be hit, but when I navigate to page 2 Visual Studio stops debugging but the browser stays open. This also happens if I have a two break points on page 1. For example if I have a break point in the 'page load' it will be hit, but once the page is refreshed from a button click / other any other break points will not be hit and Visual studio quits debugging but the browser stays open.
Here's what I've tried:
1. reset the Visual Studio settings
2. Disable the "Just My Code" option in the Debug/General settings
3. checked "Use Managed Compatibility Mode" and "Use Native Compatibility Mode"
4. cleared all dot net temp files
5. delete the .suo files and user files
6. cleaned the project
7. rebuilt the project
8. updated Visual Studio
What could be causing this issue? The only other thing I could think of is that there is a setting / other in the browser that is causing the disconnect - but if so what and why would it work in vs2010? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Visual Studio 2019 - can't change profile settings, opens FolderProfile.pubxml instead

I have a problem with Visual Studio 2019.
From what I have seen in tutorials, during publishing an application, I should be able to change profile settings, by clicking a small pencil (I included a screenshot, it's a little pencil next to "false" and other settings.) However, every time i click it, it opens FolderProfile.pubxml file in Visual Studio instead! Is this indended behaviour, am I doing something completely wrong? How to change that? Screenshot
My problem fixed when I updated visual studio.
Also go to extensions and update all.
Now show UI options.

Visual studio 2017 debug opens new browser [duplicate]

I've been updating to the latest version of Visual Studio Preview and I think a setting has been changed.
When I start debugging an ASP.NET web app in Visual Studio 2017 15.7.0 Preview 4, VS opens a new browser.
I've had a similar issue before and it was a setting. This time it's not that setting. As you can see below, my Chrome debugging is already unchecked.
I'm also aware of the check box to "Launch Browser" under Project -> Properties.
If I uncheck that no browser is opened. The previous behavior which I really liked was to open a new tab in my default browser i.e. Chrome.
How do I restore that behavior? I'd like VS to automatically open a new tab in Chrome and if I have no browser open, only then it should open up a new browser.
After updating Visual Studio to the latest version 15.7.0 I ran into the same issue. In my case each time I debugged my project it opens up two new instances of Chrome.
As this was not annoying enough, each time I was moving the window to my second screen, the debug-session stopped immediately.
I've searched the Visual Studio options for browser and found a setting called
Stop debugger when browser window is closed
which could be found under Projects and Solutions -> Web Projects. I unchecked this setting and et voilà the next debug-session started as tabs in my already running browser-instance.
As I am not sure if this is a bug introduced with this Visual Studio version, this may change again in any next release. So this setting may be reverted in case of any unexpected behavior.
Update
Seems like version 15.8.5 still has this issue/behavior.

"Cannot navigate to definition" annoyance in Visual Studio 2010

I just switched to Visual Studio 2010, and now whenever I select something, Ctrl+C to copy, click somewhere else, and Ctrl+V to paste, I get an error message "Cannot navigate to definition." After that, it I try it again, it works. What fantastic new 'feature' should I be turning off to stop this?
Bah, it's a bug in Microsoft Productivity Power Tools for Visual Studio 2010. the "Ctrl+Click Go To Definition" feature. Apparently, when I click a new location and then press "Ctrl+V" - if I do it quickly enough, it interprets it as a Ctrl+Click and immediately tries to trigger a navigation, even if I clicked on an empty space. The error comes because it doesn't know what I'm trying to navigate to (answer: I'm not).
I have/had similar issues in VS 2012 (Premium).
I've tried the following:
removed all bin and obj folders from project's folder: works most of
the time.
repaired VS 2012 (add/remove bugrams (programs) > repair). Didn't
help much.
Close and opened VS 2012: didn’t help much either.
I've noticed than I couldn't open only files that weren't check-in in
TFS. I check-in them and then VS started working normally.
Dunno if this issue will appear again tough.
Hopefully this would help someone.

you can remove the GoToDefProPack.dll file from the following location:
C:\Users(myUserName)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Extensions\Microsoft\Productivity Power Tools\10.0.20318.14
to disable this feature completely.

Open the start page in Visual Studio after closing a project?

When you start Visual Studio you get a start page with all the latest projects in a list.
But when you've opened and closed a project, how do you open that start page again?
(Without restarting VS)
Visual Studio 2010-2015
There's a menu item View -> Start Page
Additionally you can choose to keep the start page open when loading a project. There's a check box below the projects list for that.
(Tested in VS2010, VS2012, VS2013, VS2015)
In current versions, you can also use the Quick Launch (Ctrl+Q) to search for the command
(Just type "Start Page" in Quick Launch)
Visual Studio 2017
There's a menu item File -> Start Page
You can configure the behavior of the IDE on startup via Tools -> Options -> Environment -> Startup.
In Visual Studio 2017, the start page will open automatically when the solution is closed. As far as I know, this cannot be changed directly in the IDE but there's an extension that adds that feature. See this question on SO and this VSIX-Extension (but this will disable the start page completely - if you try to open it manually, it will be immediately closed automatically)
You also have the Start Page icon in the toolbar :
In VS2013 by default I do not see the "Start Page" command in the View menu but adding it was simple. The icon also looks different in VS2013.
Right click on the toolbar and choose Customize... at the bottom then go to Commands
Switch to Toolbar/Standard and then click the Add Command button an locate the View group on the left
Finally locate the Start Page item and click OK.
In VS 2017 the new location for viewing the start page
is under the 'file' menu. as appears in this link:
https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/4603/view-start-page-menu-item-is-missing.html
In VS 2017 it's in File->Start Page.
By now there is an extension exactly for that purpose:
https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/e64380ab-e3aa-4ac7-aa11-95719c5c91e9
I tried it an it works like a charme in VS 2015 :)
To get start page in visual studio 2017 Go to File -> Start Page
In case of Visual Studio 2019, go to File->Start Window.
It used to be automatic in VS2008 - Anything you had open outside of any solution/project (including the start page) would close when you opened a project/solution, then when closed that product/solution it went back to what was open before. That is how it should work, they broke it in VS2010. So all the prior VS users searching for the answer - there is none - technology continues to regress.
You can create custom shortcuts in VS under Tools > options > Environment > Keyboard.
makes it super easy to reopen the start page.
Here is my setup if you get confused
custom start page shortcut
In VS 2022 it's in Tools->Option->Environment->General->On Startup

Right Pop up menu coming slowly

When i right click in the text editor in Visual studio 2008 IDE, the Pop Up menu comes at a slower pace. Is there any setting in visual studio that can control this behavior?
After a windows crash my IntelliSense context menu (when clicked over a member/class/declaration) became very slow (~10s to open it). Solution was to close my VS2012, and delete solution cache files (solutionname.suo).
Keep in mind that .suo files are hidden.
After reloading the solution all came back to normal!
You may make VS GUI faster by disabling animation.
Uncheck "Animate environment tools" checkbox in tools - options - environment - general.
This may help...
The problem is possibly a timeout trying to connect to a Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. To disable this in VS 2012:
Tools > Options > Source Control > Plug-in Selection > Current Source control plugin-in > None
This worked for me and I read about it in a comment on this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/3467989/1007353 .
