How do I access an external hard drive through bash-on-Ubuntu-on-windows. It doesn't seem to appear in either /media, /mnt or /dev, which seem the common places that people say to look for them in Ubuntu systems.
Note: the hard drive is HFS+ formatted: I use Paragon's HFS+ for windows and have already done an apt-get install hfsprogs which I think should allow the Linux part to read the HFS+ format. I have also tried with normal USB sticks, no of which seemed to appear anywhere.
The drive does appear in /cygdrive in cygwin, but when I navigate to cygdrive in bash it doesn't appear. Clearly it is not properly mounted there, but is some form of symbolical link that bash cannot see.
I'm not really sure if this is a Linux or a Windows issue, but there doesn't seem to be anything from Microsoft about it, though I realise it is early days for them.

The Ubuntu on Windows on the current build (Build 14393, a.k.a. anniversary update) doesn't support accessing external drive. This feature is on their backlog for future consideration.

Disk Utility Image
When I boot from a USB and "Try Ubuntu", I cannot increase the size of Partition 6 to us the Free Space. I assume the Free Space needs to be to the right of Partition 6 but, not sure. I have also tried gparted to no avail. How do I accomplish this without having to re-install Ubuntu?
NOTE: The laptop was once a Windows 10 unit that I re-partitioned and installed Ubuntu 22.04. I foolishly deleted the Windows partition from Ubuntu believing I could re-allocate the free space and maybe this has caused my problem.
I have booted from a USB and ran disk utilities in an effort to use my free space. I have read numerous posts on this topic from various sources but, I have not been able to duplicate those performances or suggestions.

What is the best way to copy files from one computer to another using ZFS or checksumming?
I have a FreeNAS server with ZFS and a Mac with Mojave and ZFS.
I want to copy a large (4 TB) Time Machine sparsebundle from the server to the ZVOL on the Mac over the network.
I wonder if there is a ZFS-enhanced way to do this, which perhaps includes metadata or checksums.
Apparently ZFS only includes options for copying (send/receive) complete filesystems or volumes, not individual files.
I found the command
cp -z
on an Oracle online manual, but this apparently does not work in the macOS terminal.
Any idea?
There is no way to leverage ZFS for this using any of it's features other than send/receive. Unless you are transferring an whole fs or volume snapshot (full or incremental), ZFS can't help you.

I don't understand that StackExchange, where I can post question about computers, so I think, this will be good.
Friend of mine wanted to reinstall windows and clear everything. He had windows XP. He don't know a lot of computers, so I decided, I will do that. I took his HDD to home and connected to my computer. Installation of windows XP started and everything worked well.
But when I bring HDD back to his computer and connected it, all I get after start computer is that (picture bellow). It is something like cursor, flashing on screen and never end. Does someone know, what could went wrong, when that worked well in my PC and its same windows, which he had before? (Sorry for bad english)
Windows is configured based on the hardware underneath. Installing windows in one system and then placing the HDD in another usually does not work. Use a Bootable USB to install Windows in the system as the DVD Drive isn't functional.

A friend of mine is showing me how to use the shell (on my mac) and I used ls -a to look at all of the files in my home directory and there are a few that I'm wondering if they're garbage.
The ones that seem non-native to the computer (I'm running Mountain Lion)
.cups
.drjava
.nbprofiler
.netbeans
.profile
I googled netbeans (and "cups" unsuccessfully) and it seems like netbeans is an IDE, but I never installed it and it's not on my computer. I'm just curious if some of these files are garbage that piggybacked here on other downloads. Thanks for any knowledge you guys might have of this!
All of the files that you mentioned are part of Mac OS X already. Cups is to manage printers, netbeans is an IDE, drjava is for writing java applications, nbprofiler is to uncover memory leaks, and .profile can be used to set up aliases that act as shortcuts to commands. It is an optional file which tells the system which commands to run when the user whose profile file it is logs in. Hope this helped!

What happens if I finish the drive letters?
It's just curiosity, but I have a lot of letters and it happens that I float around 20 when I have everything connected
This image is not mspaint. I subst'ed all drives, even B:
Then, I plugged a card reader that has 4 drives. Nothing showed up!
So, the answer to your question is NOTHING! You are just unable to add more.
Of cource you can use volume mounting as suggested above
It depends on your operating system. Some older versions of windows supported up to 32 drives (mapped to things like [: and `:), but more recent versions do not.
On a modern Windows machine, if you require more than 26 drives, the correct solution is to use Volume Mount Points
