This issue is fixed in the 5-0-stable branch.
Solution:
gem 'rails', github: "rails/rails", branch: '5-0-stable'
and bundle update rails until they release a new gem version.

Has anyone had this problem?
I encountered this same problem today. After a long search I came across this thread. Seems like a bug in OpenSSL library/extension. Because opening a certificate and talking to a DB happen in a single thread, the connection gets screwed up. I still haven't figured out all details but a workaround is to open the certificate in it's own thread, like:
pkcs = nil
Thread.new { pkcs = OpenSSL::PKCS12.new File.read('/local/to/mycert.pfx'), 'PASSWORD' }.join
Hope that helps :)

I tried to google some of the errors, but with no success. I had previously another error with the rake file using rspec v2 and the current version is 3.0.0, so I had to install the older and I think it might be another setup problem. Thanks if someone can help me or direct me.

UPDATE
So, I updated rspec to v3.0.0 and changed Rakefile gem 'rspec', '~>3.0.0' and c.color = true back. Everything is working now(getting some deprecation warnings, but nothing critical), getting the output that is in the tutorial. Guess I just had to updae my rspec and change the version in the Rakefile. Thank you so much :)
Your error log is showing you are in rspec-core-2.0.0 version and your error is saying -
rspec_config.rb:3:in `block in <top (required)>': undefined method `color=' for
#<RSpec::Core::Configuration:0x0000000293dee0> (NoMethodError)
Now Deprecate config options confirms that below versions of 2.99.0.rc1 / 2014-05-18 or 2.99.0 methods were - #color_enabled, #color_enabled= and #color?. Which are changed since 2.99.0 to #color, #color= and #color_enabled?.
I got the information from the changelog as I linked -
Deprecate #color_enabled, #color_enabled= and #color? in favour of #color, #color= and #color_enabled? output. (Jon Rowe)
Thus you need to write as
RSpec.configure do |c|
c.fail_fast = true
c.color_enabled = true
end
Regarding your new error, I found it as a bug undefined methodrun_all' for []:Array`. Which has been fixed in this patch. Check this Rspec issue.
My suggestion use Rspec 3.0, at least you will be happy. In this case revert the color_enabled to color.
Hope this would help you.

The error is happening inside ActiveSupport::BufferedLogger#add method call and you appear to be monkey-patching this class. The internals of ActiveSupport::BufferedLogger have likely changing between the versions of Rails you're using.
Try removing all of the ActiveSupport::BufferedLogger code from your environment.rb to work past this error and get your app running. Then, if you still need the monkeypatch (don't know why), you'd have to rewrite it on top of the newer version of the class.

Sequel gem: Handling invalid date values gracefully

I'm a ruby noob and I'm trying to process some blog posts using Sequel and the data_objects adapter:
DB = Sequel.connect('do:mysql://user:pass#localhost/database')
db[posts_query].each do |post|
puts post
end
But I get Sequel::InvalidValue exception, complaining about the date column:
/usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/time.rb:202:in `local': ArgumentError: argument out of range (Sequel::InvalidValue)
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/time.rb:202:in `make_time'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/time.rb:271:in `parse'
from /var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/sequel-3.42.0/lib/sequel/core.rb:295:in `string_to_datetime'
I tried to catch the exception:
begin
db[posts_query].each do |post|
puts post
end
rescue Sequel::InvalidValue => e
puts e.inspect
end
but that doesn't help much.
How can I find out which row has the incorrect value?
Also, is there a way to do this iteration, such that I can catch the exception but continue to loop over the remaining rows?
Update:
I switched to the mysql2 adapter and now I can at least see the invalid date:

Can you post more of the backtrace? You need to see what is calling string_to_datetime.
Also, I would recommend against using the do/mysql adapter unless you have specific needs that require it. Use the mysql or mysql2 adapter instead. If the error is being caused by bogus datetimes in your MySQL database, then you may want to use the mysql2 adapter or use the mysql adapter and set DB.convert_invalid_date_time = nil.

Vpim::Vcard - Parsing vcard 2.1

My code must parse Vcard 2.1 format.
I am using vpim(there are no other libs)
When I run Vpim::Vcard.decode(data) I get error:
undefined method `each' for #<String:0x0000000928e778>
StackTrace:
NoMethodError (undefined method `each' for #<String:0x0000000928e778>):

vpim (0.695) lib/vpim/vcard.rb:692:in `decode'
app/models/event.rb:71:in `block (2 levels) in parse_data'
I tryed to run gem install vcard and to require 'vcard' directry(config.gem does not include this file after vpim gem) after RailsApp initialization.(config.gem 'vpim' is included in environment.rb)
By this way I get another error:
;=D0=9D=D0=B0=D0=B4=D1=80=D0=B0=20=D0=B1=D0=B0=D0=BD=D0=BA=20=D0=BE=D0=BB=
(Exception class is Vpim::InvalidEncodingError)
Vcard code I try parse:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
REV:20090710T151929Z
TEL;CELL:80954130722
X-CLASS:private
END:VCARD
It is interesting that second error is when I am decoding inside a Rails model.
When I try to decode directly from script/console (after installinv vcard gem and direct including 'vcard') I succesfuly get Vcard object.
StackTrace:

How is it possible to parse Vcard 2.1 in rails?
The problem is that String#each has been removed in Ruby 1.9.1. (Its functionality endures in String#each_line). To fix/work around this bug, do any of the following:
Run your rails app on Ruby 1.8.7.
You can edit the Vpim code to use String#each_line appropriately (and send the vpim authors a patch)
You can monkey-patch the String class by defining the each method
class String
alias_method :each, :each_line
end
Switch to the vcard gem, which is taken from Vpim and which has Ruby 1.9.1 support.
I recommend the 4th option.
