I cross-compile OpenWRT in 64b and now I need to add some package (not from community) that forced to be compiled in 32b.
My problem is that the openwrt (64b) require "libssl-dev" and the new package (32b) require "libssl-dev:i386" and therefore I need each time to install the suit library before compiling the code.
Is there a way that they will co-exists and I could compile the new package as part of the openwrt without installing "libssl-dev" "libssl-dev:i386" alternating?

I use Ubuntu 12.04 as my development machine.

i see that there is allegedly a bug fix but it is still removing "libssl-dev" once installing "libssl-dev:i386"

There are 2 ways to overcome this problem:
upgrade to UBUNTU 15 - the problem is solved in this UBUNTU version.
create a local folder with the headers and content of libssl-dev:i368 and compile with the local copy.

I have been working on some video playing/streaming pipelines for Computer Vision work on Nvidia Jetson TX2. It had Ubuntu 16.04 with latest Jetpack.
I have already installed opencv 3.3 and to test some of the pipelines, with .MP$ video files, I need h264parse plugin which is a part of gst-bad-plugins. However, when I try to install it using apt-get, it shows that following packages will be installed:

Here it tries to install an older version of opencv and this really messes up with my current opencv (v3.3) install.
Does anyone have any idea on how should I overcome this problem. I would not want the option to just ignore all the dependencies. But somehow, if it detects the installed opencv version, that would be awesome.

I am working on Jetson Tx1 , and have problem installing opencv 3.3 in virtual environment onto it due to space issues. I tried to compile the build file from external sd card and make from there. Then Sym-link (cv2.so) file to appropriate path. Can you tell me how you were able to install opencv3.3 ??
I got a new Fedora machine some time ago from this link http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/21/Workstation/i386/iso/Fedora-Live-Workstation-i686-21-5.iso. I need to install software, but for that I need a compiler ("No acceptable C compiler found in $PATH.") So, I want to install GCC compiler. I cannot connect to internet on the Fedora machine, but I do have an internet connected Windows 8.1 machine, that I can use to download and copy files via 2gb flash drive. Please help me on how to go about installing GCC to the Fedora machine.
If you have the packages you need from the Fedora mirrors on your flash drive, you can install them on the command line with (for example)
yum install /media/pathname/gcc-4.8.2-1.fc20.i686.rpm
However, since 2GB isn't big enough to include the entire Fedora release, you will need to pick and choose the packages. And this will leave you in the state we used to call "RPM hell" back before yum came along and solved that. You can either figure out the dependencies one by one (start with the above, and then add anything it tells you it is missing), or, you could go all out and copy the entire mirror in 2GB sized chunks to your Fedora machine's hard drive so you have it for any future needs.
I want to start playing around with some of the newer C++11 features and it appears that the best support for this is with gcc 4.8, and Squeeze ships with 4.4.5.
However, I don't want to cause any "damage" to my current setup. What's the best way to get both versions of gcc running side-by-side? I'm concerned mostly at the large number of dependencies and that taking them all in to my current system may render it unstable.
Has anyone managed to do this, and what are the steps involved?
Failing that, I'll probably just create a VM and run an "unstable" Debian under that but it's a less-than-ideal solution.
If you install GCC from source just make sure you don't install it to /usr and it won't mess anything up. If you install it as your own user, not root, then there is zero chance of messing up the system.

I have various versions built as my user and installed in ~/gcc/4.X for various X.
The only thing to be aware of using that set up is that the shared libraries for the new version aren't in the dynamic linker's default search path, so you need to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH or some other solution to ensure executables find the libs from 4.8, see the libstdc++ FAQ and the page it links to in the manual
I use a wrapper script call g++11 which simply calls the new version of GCC with -std=gnu++11 and passes a flag to the linker telling it to set the path to the 4.8 libs in the executable:
$HOME/gcc/4.8/bin/g++ -Wl,-rpath,$HOME/gcc/4.8/lib64 -std=gnu++11 -Wall -Wextra -g "$#"
I had the same problem, and didn't want to fully upgrade to testing.
Jessie (testing) now contains g++-4.8 which is compliant with C++11.
I used apt-pinning in the following way:
A source to jessie was added to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ jessie main non-free contrib
/etc/apt/preferences was edited as such:
Package: *
Pin: release n=wheezy
Pin-Priority: 900
Package: gcc*
Pin: release n=jessie
Pin-Priority: 910
Then,
$ sudo aptitude update
$ sudo aptitude install gcc/jessie
At which point I selected the second presented option to resolve dependencies fully.
Debian has the package under the name gcc-4.8 (or for the c++ compiler, g++-4.8). Installing those packages will not mess up your OS, as long as you do not rename it to g++. The package is listed as experimental though.

Quick ones:
Just upgrade to testing, it is rock-solid and offers you several concurrent gcc versions. Similar for Ubuntu, on 12.10 I have gcc/g++ 4.4, 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 in parallel.
Try the Debian backports archive, it may have a port of gcc 4.8.
Use virtualization: I prefer libvirt / kvm which is incredibly lightweight on Linux as it is kernel based. My amd64 server has two other 32 bit installations for that very reason.

install a Debian flavor that support you gcc version desired.

I have to install a C compiler with cilkplus branch which is recently added to the GCC. Since it is recent so I ave to install it manually and there are no direct methods available to that. I plan to install it at custom location. I installed it on a redhat 6 and ubuntu 12.04 successfully but I found that the settings of environment variables are different on both operating systems ( not a surprise ).
For example to install the compiler on ubuntu 12.04 you would need C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu a directory which does not exist on redhat 6.
I plan to write a single script for installation of this compiler on many systems(different distributions of linux). How can I do it.
One way I can think of is to check which OS and version you are running and set environment variables accordingly but here also I do not know how to do it.
Any other suggestions are also valueable.

I'm trying to install openCV on university's iMac,
but the problem is our university's network is so strict.
and I couldn't install openCV using MacPorts.
I tried google to look for a way to install but it all failed
i guess because it is kind of old ways and because my network is so strict.
So if anybody knows a way that I can download a ready framework with how to use it inside
Xcode. or at least a framework with how to install it to work with Xcode.
or a way to download from the source and compile it then install it in Xcode

I'm using Lion + Xcode 4.x branch, with OpenCV svn trunk. Everything works fine. You have to install cmake first, then get the code from the svn following the instructions at http://code.opencv.org . The compilation process worked fine for me for all the core modules + the Qt module + the GPU module + TBB acceleration.
The instructions are the same as the Linux platform.
After setting up cmake configuration in a terminal (using ccmake for a more interactive tool),
I set the architecture to x86_64 (on my MBP Core 2 Duo), the target directory to /usr/local/(the default), and I have Intel TBB installed in /usr/local/.
Cmake generates the makefiles for you, so you just have to type make -j2 to compile, then sudo make install. If you're working on a workstation, then you have more CPU power, and you can replace the value 2 by more, e.g. 8.
