I am using dbup for my database migration and my dbup project in visual studio solution definitely produces required exe and exe.config file. Now when I deploy my project through octopus deploy I have no exe.confog file in nupkg generated by octo however I can confirm that exe.config is in the release folder on the server.
I found that octopus had a bug with similar issue https://github.com/OctopusDeploy/Issues/issues/970 which is resolved now. in version 2.5.1 (https://octopus.com/downloads/compare?from=2.2.1&to=3.4.10) and I am using octopus version 3.3.17 , however I am facing same behaviour..
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

If you run MSBuild myProjectFile.csproj /p:RunOctoPack=true inside the project folder, you will see some OctoPack logging showing you what it did exactly. It will tell you where it put all the files, which .nuspec file was used, etc. Maybe that'll clear some things up.

I think I have various beads on why this may be happening, but I can't quite put all the clues together.
We were building an ASP.NET app in VS 2019 with a nuget dependency (Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SNI.1.0.19235.1 if it matters). I've used msbuild -t:package and in VS 2019, it would spit out bin\x86 and bin\x64 folders with the DLL from that nuget package. That package step would spit out a zip file and opening that up you can see the x86/x64 folders in there.
We upgraded to VS 2022 and the CPU arch folders are no longer there. I can see them get created in the working directory, but not in the package output.
Nothing in the project has changed. It's set to target "AnyCPU" and Framework 4.6.2. The command we're using to build hasn't changed either. As far as I can tell, it's just the upgrade to VS 2022.
I know VS 2022 is now 64-bit native, so I have a suspicion that's in play here. Any ideas on why those CPU-architecture folders are no longer included in the zip package? And how to get them back in there?

According to your description I make some test, hope it can help you:
Check your Configuration Manager under Build in the menu and add new Platform you need.
Build the project in Batch Build under Build in the menu.
We can see that .dll files are created in the same path so it will be covered.
Open the project file.(Right click on the project and Unload Project then right click again an choose edit project file)
You can see code like this:
Change the OutputPath to “bin\x64\Debug\”, ”bin\x64\Release\” and so on.
Reload the project and rebuild the project in Batch Build.

If it helps anyone, since my problem was specifically with the SNI.dll not being emitted in the x64/x86 folders, my workaround solution was to upgrade the Microsoft.Data.* libraries to a newer version. The x64/x86 folders are still not emitted, but I now see Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SNI.x64.dll and Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SNI.x86.dll files in the root bin folder.
It doesn't answer the original question, but at least it got me moving.
I am using TeamCity with Visual Studio. Build artifacts are staged to a file share in the _PublishedWebsites folder for web projects. I have a PowerShell script that deploys those web applications. Works great!
I needed to create a Windows Service project. Problem is those artifacts are staged in the root directory with all artifacts from the entire solution. What do I need to do to my Windows Service project file and TeamCity configuration to get it to stage the Windows Service project output in it's own folder?

Finally! Found a solution which customises the Targets output for Web Applications that publishes to _PublishedWebsites to a _PublishedApplications folder.

I have just setup TeamCity to automate our builds, our current solution has both a dev and main branch. What I am trying to achieve is to have the development branch build and publish to a development NuGet feed on our ProGet installation, and then have the main branch publish to our Main NuGet feed on ProGet server.
We are using octopus deploy to deploy the packages, within TeamCity we have the octopus deploy plugin installed and if I tick the box to run OctoPack it builds the packages and they appear as artifacts when the build completes. If I try to use the NuGet Pack build step in TeamCity I get the following error for one of our projects:
[08:33:49] : [pack] Attempting to build package from 'xxx.csproj'.
[08:33:50]W: [pack] Unable to find 'xxx.exe'. Make sure the project has been built.
The project has been built and it works with OctoPack so why isn't it working with the NuGet Pack? Wwe have five projects being built and the first four run fine, one is a console app, one is an mvc website, and two are class libraries. The one that doesn't work is a windows service.
The end goal here is to publish these packages to a private feed on ProGet. I don't mind using OctoPack but in my head wanted to remove that dependency from TeamCity but I can live with it. However when I try to use the NuGet Publish runner type how do I select to publish any NuGet artifacts that have been created?
I have been googling like mad and I cannot find any helpful links that describe what you are supposed to enter, I would really appreciate any helpful comments/answers.

Hopefully the following will help with at least part of your question; mainly the bit relating to how to publish packaged artifacts.
NuSpec Approach
When using the NuGet Pack build step, you can specify the Output Directory, which will determine the output location of the packages. You can specify this as a relative path to the checkout directory, probably best to define it as a build parameter, such as %system.PackageDeployOutput% as you'll be using it in the next step...:
Next, specify a NuGet Publish build step, fill in the Package Source / API key etc, and specify the Packages to upload as
%system.PackageDeployOutput%\*.nupkg
This will pick up the packages output in the previous step. I've used this quite effectively, and the parameterisation approach encourages conventions across all your builds.
OctoPack Support
If you're using the MsBuild build step with OctoPack, you can use a similar approach by declaring a system parameter called
system.OctoPackPublishPackageToFileShare = %teamcity.build.checkoutDir%\%system.PackageDeployOutput% (note the same parameter as above)
You can declare these as root project parameters, so you get the best of both worlds. My preferred approach to packaging is currently to use nuspec files for deployable endpoints. I've found OctoPack to be a bit of an overhead when it comes to more complex deployments (it's fine for basic MsBuild projects).

We are just getting into Continuous Integration with TeamCity. We have setup a TeamCity project(s) that looks like so:
Solution Build (builds entire solution) - .Sln file
Debug to Dev Server (builds .csproj in Debug configuration and Deploys to test server using MSDeploy)
Release to Production (builds .csproj in Release configuration and Deploys to production server using MSDeploy)
Within our Umbraco Visual Studio project (which is a Web Application not the standard Website project type) we have the umbraco_client and umbraco folders excluded from the Project, primarily because they are already compiled and don't need to be re-compiled by our process. Both folders are however included in the SVN repo.
The problem we are experiencing is that because these two folders are excluded from the Visual Studio project, TeamCity does not deploy them.
So my question boils down to "how do you include folders in the TeamCity build package where the folders are in the SVN but excluded from the Visual Studio project?".
Any pointers would be really appreciated.

We've been using TeamCity for umbraco. This is what we've been doing recently on our internal dev servers:

They key to solving the problem you are having is
/p:FilesToIncludeForPublish=AllFilesInProjectFolder
By default, it is set to something like "AllFilesInProject". Combining FilesToIncludeForPublish with the ExcludeFoldersFromDeployment can give you some control over exactly what TeamCity attempts to deploy

You don't mention nuget, so assuming you use a zip or web pi to setup Umbraco in your solution, but you should still be able to use the targets listed in msbuild or add to your web applications .csproj when building your solution. It would require that you have the Umbraco and Umbraco_client folders somewhere in Svn repo or on your build server in order to copy it in.
As an alternative I can also recommend that you download the UmbracoCms nuget as that contains an extension to the msdeploy pipeline that includes the two mentioned folders in an msdeploy zip package. But again also based on the nuget install and thus a standard location for the Umbraco folders.

As to excluding the umbraco and umbraco_client folders from SVN; a complex Umbraco build will probably have changes in the Umbraco folder to the default build eg adding Umbraco Event Handlers, adding new Umbraco Sections, changes to back-office tabs. I don't think umbraco_client will change unless you get into changing rich text editors and so on - but it is possible. So I'm not sure that excluding those particular folders is correct. Excluding the media folder is often discussed as well - but it does make TeamCity config simpler if everything is there.
But to answer your question you could exclude them from the build and copy them onto your build server; then add a 'Command Line' runner build step that simply copies them back into place before the build step starts.
I usually add a source control change step that fires a rebuild and have two build steps in TeamCity for an Umbraco project. One is a 'Visual Studio (sln)' runner to check that the sln file has every reference and third party product set up correctly (this should eliminate the 'it works on my machine' issues); and the second is a 'MSBuild' runner that replicates the csproj build process. With the second build step with the right permissions (if your ports are open on the machine you're deploying to, or you're deploying to the same machine as you are on) you could test this in Visual Studio or DOS.
These two build steps should be able to deploy to the IIS website on a staging server; and if the right ports are open on your live or UAT server you could then add a third build step and deploy it onwards (if the first two build steps run properly).
I have a DBPro (DataDude) project inside my solution to manage and version the database schema of my application. I use TeamCity 4.0 for continuous integration.
To be able to build a .dbproj, MSBuild tasks and their respective assemblies have to be installed, other .dbschema and .xsd dependencies put in place. The easiest solution is to install VS2008 TS: Database Edition on the build server.. something i'd love to avoid. I have started putting the files in place one by one bot got bored after the build failed on some missing XSD files installed by VSTSDB.
Has anyone found an easy way to avoid installing VSTSDB? A community-made 'redist' installer that puts the right files in the right place and the right assemblies into the GAC? The topic is pretty hard to google so I am hoping to tap the stack overflow knowledge base :)

The question is if you are able to build the db using command line (like devenv.exe with some arguments)? If so I see no problem installing the dev environment and executing through a command line task in MSBuild on the build servers. I do the same thing for MSI installers in the projects I manage.
