Xamarin : ImportAfter is not a valid short file name - visual-studio

I have an error when I try to install the last stable version of Xamarin or If I want to uninstall Xamarin.
My configuration in Visual Studio:
I install the last stable version of Xamarin and I have the following error :
I have the same error if I try to uninstall Xamarin:
What can I do?
I can not use Xamarin now.

I had the same problem and did the steps described in the bugzilla link posted from jgoldberger: http://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44854 > see the answer from "Adam Hill, 2016-09-29 02:10:51 UTC".
In Addition on my system: Xamarin searches/needs a Folder "E:\ImportAfter" (from a the past installation perhabs?!). In the meantime the drive letter changed on my system from E: to H: . After i reassigned the driveletter "E:", the repair over "programms & features" worked.
Hope this helps someone else - sorry for my english! ;o)
In Addition, i just saw this bug Report now, which i think is related to this problem:
https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=38751

For me it was an external hard-drive that is usually connected to my docking station. I found the ImportAfter folder on it. After connecting it to my laptop, the setup installed just fine.

I had same problem, after a lot of googling and reading a lot of forums, I cant believe it just gone by only a restart windows!!!

Mac silicon android studio installation stuck on downloading

So i've downloaded the correct apple silicon android studio installation from their website. when trying to install the installation process gets stuck on this message:
Downloading
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/emulator-darwin_aarch64-8807927.zip
Warning: This download could not be finalized from the interim state.
Retrying without caching. Downloading
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/emulator-darwin_aarch64-8807927.zip
I have left it like that for hours but with no luck
any workaround?
today I solved the problem like this:
Download file and unzip: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/emulator-darwin_aarch64-8807927.zip
Cancel button.
Go to /Users/YOUR NAME/Library/Android/sdk
Delete the folder "emulator" and add new unzipped folder the same name
Finish!
Try to add simulator.
Later, maybe I will find a better way, but this way allowed me to work at the moment and not delay work.
#TomerZigdon Do you actually need an emulator for testing?
Here's a solution that worked for me. I have a physical device that I test the apps on and I don't require an emulator. So as per this answer (https://stackoverflow.com/a/39880185/3273842), I disabled android checking for first run. Android Studio opens just usual and on creating a new (dummy) project, it installs the needed SDK versions (not the emulator)
disable.android.first.run=true

please try to download emulator 31.3.10 again on M1, and it should work now, but report problems if you run into.

GAMMU -- Identify: not a valid win32 application

I downloaded from official site and installed latest version of Gammu for windows.
The set-up runs just fine like any other exe I have ever installed.
Then, when I try to call the command as instructed in the official guide I get this message: (alternative)
I've tried anything but it's always the same.
All of the other similar "win32 not a valid application" questions are related to self-made applications or programming in general: I haven't found a similar problem related to gammu in the whole web, except for a very old case from seven years ago which suggest to downgrade, which of course I can't do.
any suggestion to this problem? anyone had a similar one
Okay, there seems to be problem with running apps built with recent Visual studio on Windows XP and 2003.
Fortunately there is a configuration to change this.
I've just committed this change to Gammu and the new binaries will soon build. They should be available for download here. It would be great if you can test them...

VS Xamarin Agent losing build host connection

I’m having an issue for the 3rd time now! VS loses connection to the mac build host. Trying to remember how it happened the other times I think it might be related to updates. Yesterday I updated to Parallels 12 and the new OSX version, 10.11.6. Please take a look at my pictures and let me know if you’ve been in this situation and how you solved.
The other times I fixed by try-and-error, so I have no idea about what was the actual fix…
By the way, I can ping, remote login is enabled and mono is set as allowed in the firewall.
Ping mac host:
Remote login:
Firewall:
PuTTY SSH working:
Everything said here is done:
https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/getting_started/installation/windows/#Configuration
Any ideas?
Thanks!
EDIT:
Well, from the moment I posted this question to now it started to work again. But instead of closing this answer I'm gonna leave it open until we can find a solution for this. I'm not the only one facing this issue and it would be cool to document it for the next time it happens.
Here's the connection working now... :
We're including some reliability improvements on the connectivity between Visual Studio and the Mac build host as part of Xamarin for Visual Studio 4.2.0.
If you hit this issue again, please let me know what Xamarin version are you using, and also share the logs after the failing connection. (Help - Xamarin - Zip Logs).
If the issue is DNS related, you can try connecting by IP (adding the Mac manually) as suggested by #valtedero.
Another interesting test to diagnostic the issue is trying to build an iOS project from a developer command line, passing the ServerAddress, ServerUser and ServerPassword. That will try to connect to the Mac using the same mechanism used by Visual Studio without interference of editors, extensions or any other Visual Studio artifacts.
Finally, if you're not using the latest Xamarin version (currently 4.2.0) please give it a try, it does not only includes connectivity improvements, but it also improves the tracing around connectivity, which can give us valuable information to diagnostic other potential issues.
Thanks!

Can't install any version of Visual Studio on win 10

So as I mentioned, I'm running windows 10.
When I first installed windows 10, visual studio community 2015 installed just fine. Then the licence expired so I wanted to reinstall it.
The installation just stops randomly... that it is stuck one one thing..
I also spotted a little connection between the bar saying 'Acquiring' and the second bar.. when the first bar is full, the installation gets stuck on installation of one current installing thing.
I don't know how to explain it though. It just never happened to me.
A screenshot wouldn't help and a video would be too long and boring.
I can't really tell if it is installing anything or not... I once let it install whole one day and it was stuck at the same thing that it was when I left home...
Is there any good explaination and or fix for that?
I finally found the solution for this problem!
I had to disable Windows Defender, because it was blocking the installation..
It was keeping the installation from running msi files.
To disable Windows Defender, follow the steps on this page: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5918-windows-defender-turn-off-windows-10-a.html
Now the installation doesn't stop/isn't stuck on installing one thing :).
I hope I also helped the others that had the same problem before!

CacheInstaller.exe has stopped working

I am having below mentioned issue when I am running Asp.Net MVC 2 project on windows Azure emulator (dev environment)
I have installed Windows Azure SDK for .NET - October 2012 version and I am using cache feature on my system.
With above error Below one is also comming.
How to get rid of this ?
Maybe I have an stupid solution, but that works with me.
When I begin to recieve the message "CacheInstaller.exe has stopped working", I do the following:
1) Stop the execution.
2) Go to the Role I'm using in the Azure project and open the corresponding Properties page.
3) Go to the "Caching" section and there I uncheck the "Enable Caching" checkbox. After that I checked again.
4) Save*, Run de application and never the warning appear again.
Is weird because nothing should change if you uncheck and check it again an option without save in the middle, but in this case when you do that the file changes (I can see it in the red icon that said something change there, :P)
I hope this helps. Cheers.
Do you have any error messages in the event log that may give more hint.
It could be an issue with missing dlls, do you have the windows server appFabric installed as well on this machine, which may be leading to a conflict with the dlls?
A procmon log might help you see what file paths its looking for.
I banged my head against the wall on this one as well. I finally figured out the problem after digging deep into the crash-dump logs located within: C:\Users\{YOU}\AppData\Local\dftmp\Resources\{GUID}\directory\DiagnosticStore\AzureCaching\
AzureCaching does not allow UNC paths.
As my primary .net dev is from a vm, my documents/projects drive is mapped to my native drive located at: \\psf\Home\Documents\... Once I moved the project to the vm c:/ drive, CacheInstaller worked as intended.
Might as well post my experience as I was unable to locate anything on this specific problem.
I found today that if my system time was more than about 10 minutes wrong then CacheInstaller.exe bailed out on starting the emulator.
That includes the combination of system time and timezone being wrong, presumably as it results in an inability to calculate the correct UTC time at which Azure operates. Fixing the system clock resolved the issue in my case.
