I need to open a second form and position it in a particular location on the first form opened.
Explain: I added a panel to the original form and as I was putting controls on it, I got a message that I could not add any more controls. So...
There is an existing panel that I need to cover up with a second form and have it remain covered even if the original form is dragged about the screen. The second form will cover it, but I need to know how to position it in reference to the first form.
The only references I can find are how to position it on the screen, not another form.
There's certainly no easy way to do that (a form can't host another form). The limit you encountered was the max number of named controls you can have on a form (254, see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa240865(v=VS.60).aspx).
However, a control array only counts once to that limit. So instead of adding a new control (for instance text boxes) for every input field, add them as new elements of a text box array. The difference in code is that you'll reference the text boxes by index instead of unique name (you can use constants as index parameters to identify the different input fields, such as name, address, etc).

I have a page written in Vue, where there is a table with 3 columns as shown below:
https://i.stack.imgur.com/Ox7gn.png
Each column is a whole entity, and each row are the properties of the entities.
At the bottom of each column, there is a group of buttons for each column.
What I want to do is to append some additional attributes (strings) to possibly more than one properties of an entity when a button is clicked, like below:
https://i.stack.imgur.com/lnUzt.png
And when another button is clicked, more strings are appended.
When a button is clicked again, the corresponding properties will be removed. For example, if the "a" button in the second image was clicked, the table will revert to the first image.
Since there are many properties (around 10), I don't want to hard code all the strings as div's under each and every property and render them conditionally using v-show/v-if.
I have also thought about storing an array of the number of active buttons and re-render the whole table when any button is clicked. (The reason why the whole table has to be re-rendered is because each individual rows are rendered with a for-loop, so I cannot just modify a single element in a row.) But this does not seem very natural, and I believe there should be a better solution.
Is there a good way to do it?
I want to use <p:focus> in two ways:
1. Move to the input field if that field fails validation, i.e. is required
2. If on a page that has an input field that is visible when the page loads then move to that field. But if the page has a lot of introduction text and the input field is way down the page then don't move to the field as the user has to then scroll up to read the start of the page.
How can I have both cases handled? It seems that if I have <p:focus> I cannot avoid the page scrolling automatically way down the page if the first input field is there but I also want to move to the required field if a value has not been given.
Thanks
First, don't use the attribut for to select the default focused element.
Second, you only have to update your p:focus, and it will automatically select the first field where error occured.
For 1: See the answer above or http://www.primefaces.org/showcase/ui/misc/focus.xhtml
For 2: The only solution I know of that can achieve this is to not use the <p:focus/> and implement your own focus code (not to difficult). Detect the position of the first input and if it is far down, don't 'focus' it.
I have used webshims for html5 form validation in a single page app with multiple pagelets(divs). The forms are not submitted but local javascript is invoked after each conversation and collected data is posted .
Next I iterate over all the fields and reset the values.
Then I take the new user back to the first pagelet having first form for the new conversation. This time even after filling the correct values the border does not turn green.
Note:
However when we select the field and click outside the field without filling it. and then after filling the correct data border turns green.
However when we tried to achieve it programmatically iterating over each field resetting it and using javascript focus method, that did not do the trick.
I am sure I must be missing some thing. would be able to point out what.

I'm not sure, what you want to achieve. I would need to see some code. If you change the value programmatically you can update the validation ui with the event refreshvalidityui on the form field. If you want to reset the ui, you can either trigger a reset event on the form or resetvalidityui on the form field
$('input').val('foo').trigger('refreshvalidityui');
or
$('input').val('foo').trigger('resetvalidityui');
or
$('form').trigger('reset');
Please let me know, if this helps.
In MVC-3/Razor, I need to create a page which will have five set of controls. Each set will have a drop-down and a text box. User will select an option from drop-down and then provide some feedback on text box.
When the view is shown very first time, I only have to enable controls in first set. Whereas all controls in 4 other sets should be disabled. Once user perform action in first set of controls (select optino from drop-down and enter in text box), the second set should become enable now, whereas other set of controls should still be disbaled. The data shown in this second drop-down is dependent upon what user has selected in first drop-down. Once user complete action in this second set, the data in third drop-down will depend upon whatever user selected in first and second drop-down etc.
I am a web-form aspx developer and not sure what will be the best way of designing this in MVC-razor world (because there is not view state etc).
Step 1)
What needs to be clarified is what will cause the other “sets” to be enabled?
Is it after the user has selected an item in the dropdown
OR
Is it after they have entered some text in the textbox?
What also needs to be clarified is if you have a dropdown AND a textbox are they both enabled at the same time or is the textbox only enabled after you’ve selected an item in the dropdown?
Once you’ve got that figured out, move on to the next step.
Step 2)
Do the users need to visually see the 4 sets from the beginning (disabling the 3 other sets) or can you simply show the other sets (on the fly) once the previous one has been successfully filled?
Depending on the answers, this may vary your approach.
As for me, the way I’d do it is simply have/show one set that loads at the beginning.
Once the user has selected an item from the dropdown, I would make an AJAX call passing along the selected item and get back a list of values for the second dropdown.
Then, using jQuery, I would duplicate the row (or div) of the first set all while changing the values in the second dropdown box.
Repeat process for when an item is selected in the second dropdown.
But wait! There’s more!!!
Let’s assume you’ve reached the third set. What if the user decides to change the value in the first dropdown? What are your requirements if that happens? Should you remove all other sets and start back at square one? I guess so…
Since we are not aware of the full set of specs for your tasks, we can only assume stuff and this may (or not) be the best path to take.
Duplicating a row (or a div) using jQuery is quite fun and performance wise, it’s nice.
Keep in mind, you will have to give a different ID to your controls (dropdown + textbox) so when you submit the form, you could use the FormCollection to get those dynamically generated controls.
Using autogenerated form from a single database table. The form uses the class WizBtns included in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\Wizards. The form has Top, Previous, Next and Bottom buttons.
Although the form only has textboxes to enter data for the fields in the table, I have added a custom Text Box from the toolbox which basically intends to display the sum of some fields. I have bound the ControlSource of the text box to a PUBLIC variable costTotal that is created on the form init.
Now the problem is updating the sum of fields in the text box, or simply updating value of costTotal. Where to add the code for this? Adding the code in the form's Refresh method mixes up the value of costTotal, when I press Next button to update all fields with new values, the custom text box displays the sum of the last record which is mysterious.
I would add a method to the form to do the calculation. Then, call that method from the Valid method of each of the textboxes involved in the calculation.
There is nothing wrong with using the refresh event to recalculate the values, just make sure that you call the refresh each time the record changes
If you are using navigation buttons to move between records then the click event of EACH button is an ideal place to issue the refresh request :-
Assuming the textbox is called txtSum and is located on the same form as the navigation buttons then in each buttons click event add this code
dodefualt()
with thisform
.txtSum.refresh()
endwith
Couple of things:
1) do not use the wizards! Make your own base classes. Trying to figure out what the wizard classes do and how to add functionality will take more time that coding your own base classes. Also, the wizard generated code and classes must be at around 10/20 years old, much has changed since then (a polite way to say they suck).
2) Do not EVER use public variables in FoxPro, except for maybe an app object.
If this is a one shot thing, just add default textboxes and buttons and design the form yourself. You will have total control and you will know what each thing does.
