schedule RDS database shutdown and startup - snapshot

How to automate bringing my RDS database offline and online via scripts/ANY PROCEDURE to save money? Note before to OFFLINE, I need to take a final SNAP SHOT,want to AUTOMATE this also.
The steps as follows.. 1)Take a SNAPSHOT 2)Shutdown Instance 3)STARTUP Instance in morning with same DATA available for Business.
When I put a RDS offline to stop the "work hours" counter running and billing me, when I bring it back online will it still have the same content (i.e will all my data stay there, or will it have to be a blank DB?).

GCP - creating a VM instance and extracting logs

I jave a JAVA application in which I am using GCP to create VM instances from images.
In this application, I would like to allow the user to view the vm creation logs in order to be updated on the status of the creation, and to be able to see failure points in detail.
I am sure such logs exist in GCP, but have been unable to find specific APIOs which let me see a specific action, for example creation of instance "X".

When you create a VM, the answer that you have is a JobID (because the creation take time and the Compute Engine API answer immediately). To know the status of the VM start (and creation) you have to poll regularly this JobID.
In the logs, you can also filter with this JobID to select and view only the logs that you want on the Compute API side (create/start errors).
If you want to see the logs of the VM, filter the logs not with the JobID but with the name of the VM, and its zone.
In Java, you have client libraries that help you to achieve this

How to use snapshot and caching functions without actually storing credentials in SSRS

I have developed few testing reports in my local machine. I came across few mechanisms called Snapshot and Caching. I am trying to implement those in my reports, every time when i try to create Caching mechanism it throws me an error "credentials need to be stored. "
Can we use caching and snapshot by using Windows credentials?. if so what is the approach.

Scheduled snapshots or caching plans mean the report is being executed on an automated basis, and the results stored for easier/faster retrieval later. As the executions are autmoated and unattended, they need connections with stored credentials, as there is no user sitting at the computer at run-time to punch in credentials. So, in order to use snapshots or scheduled caches, you will need to create a data source that has credentials stored in it. In Report Manager, you can edit the Report's datasource in the Report Properties page, or the shared datasource's connection into on its own properties page.

OBIEE:how to reload rpd file quickly?

I'm new to use oracle BIEE.My development enviromnent now is installed,and the project is a little big.Multi user development is using for developing now.The problems happens when one developer publish the rpd to network and want to test the data,the server reloading the rpd file takes too much time and I can hardly wait!When multi users want to test rpd file,e,can't stand it... is there any other way to solve the problem?or how to make the biee sever reload the rpd file quickly?
It's hard to say specifically without knowing a bit more about your setup, but here are a few general advice pointers:
When stopping the service OBI will wait for any running queries to complete before stopping the service, so making sure there's nothing running before you try to do this.
Make sure you're only restarting the BI Server component, you don't need to wait for the other services to restart if you're just changing the RPD (if you're on 11g then deploying through EM should mean this happens anyway so you don't need to worry).
If you're using 11g, you could try incremental updates by creating patches.
Check whether the hardware you're running on is adequate, most importantly that you've enough RAM so it's not having to page out to disk when it loads the RPD.
Remove anything unused from the RPD to make it smaller.

AWS EC2: Instance from my own Windows AMI is not reachable

I am windows user and wanted to use a spot instance using my own EBS windows AMI. For this I have followed these steps:
I had my own on-demand instance with specific settings
Using AWS console I used option "Create Image EBS" to create EBS based windows AMI. IT worked and AMI created successfully
Then using this new AMI I launched a spot medium instance that was created well and now running with status checks passed.
After waiting an hour or more I am trying to connect it using windows 7 RDC client but is not reachable with client tool's standard error that either computer is not reachable or not powered on.
I have tried to achieve this goal and created/ deleted many volums, instances, snapshots everything but still unsuccessful. Doesn't anybody else have any solution to this problem?

Basically what's happening is that the existing administrator password (and other user authentication information) for Windows is only valid in the original instance, and can't be used on the new "hardware" that you're launching the AMI on (even though it's all virtualized).
This is why RDP connections will fail to newly launched instances, as will any attempts to retrieve the administrator password. Unfortunately you have no choice but to shut down the new instances you've been trying to connect to because you won't be able to do anything with them.
For various reasons the Windows administrator password cannot be preserved when running a snapshot of the operating system on different hardware (even virtualized hardware) - this is a big part of the reason why technologies like Active Directory exist, so that user authentication information is portable between machines and networks.
It sounds like you did all the steps necessary to get this working except for one - you never took any steps to cause a new password to be assigned to your newly-launched instances based on the original AMI you created.
To fix this, BEFORE turning your instance into a custom AMI that can be used to launch new instances, you need to (in the original instance) run the Ec2ConfigService Settings tool (found in the start menu when remoted into the original instance using RDP), and enable the option to generate a new password on next reboot. Save this setting change.
Then when you do create an AMI from the original instance, and use that AMI to launch new instances, they will each boot up to your custom Windows image but will choose their own random administrator password.
At this point you can go to your ec2 dashboard and retrieve the newly-generated password for the new instance based on the old AMI, and you'll also be able to download the RDP file used to connect to it.
One additional note is that Amazon warns that it can take upwards of 30 minutes for the retrieval of an administrator password after launching a new instance, however in my previous experience I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be able to get it.
Your problem is most likely that the security group you used to launch the AMI does not have RDP (TCP port #3389) enabled.
When you launch the windows AMI for the first time, AWS will populate the quicklaunch with this port enabled. However, when you launch the subsequent AMI, you will have to ensure that this port is open for your security group.
