Visual Studio 2017 RC Setup Operation Failed - visual-studio

I first tried to install VS 2017 RC and a problem occurred during installation. I tried to repair the installation but while it was repairing - my computer blue screened (probably unrelated to installation I was running a lot of programs). Now, whenever I try to install VS 2017 - it instantly gives me this error log and says 'Setup operation failed'. What do I do to fix this?

I tried posting on VS developer community but it is instantly marked as duplicated and linked to other duplicates which link to other duplicates which have no solution.

Refer to the error message, you can try to remove the existing VS 2017 RC that install failed before as below:
Go to Control Panel—Programs and Features, if there has ‘Microsoft Visual Studio 2017’, right click it and choose ‘Uninstall’
Try to delete the following installed folders: (you can back up those folders before any modification, in case we need to roll back)
• Go to the folder: %ProgramData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio and delete the ‘Packages’ folder and ‘Setup’ folder if there has.
• Go to the Visual Studio installation folder (normally under %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Visual Studio) and delete the folder ‘2017’
After that, make sure windows update is up-to-date, clean up the %temp% folder and temporarily disable any antivirus software, reboot the computer and re-run the VS 2017 RC installer as administrator again.

A common problem is that when you go to the downloads page it automatically downloads the x64 version of VS. So, create a Dev account (free) then go to downloads from the dev homepage and select the version you want to download and check x86. Hope this helps!

Visual Studio Update Paused - Now cannot be resumed, modified or removed

First of all, I am trying to open a support request with Microsoft about this issue, but their support reporting portal isn't working. I have resorted to Stackoverflow because I have no way of getting to Microsoft.
Yesterday, I started updating Visual Studio 2022 from Visual Studio Installer by mistake and paused it shortly after. Today, I tried to open a project but Visual Studio seemed unavailable. At that point I remembered about the paused update and re-opened the Visual Studio installer. I tried to Resume, and I got the below error. The Modify and Remove options give out the same error too. There is no Repair option.

cannot be found: Microsoft.VisualStudio.DebuggerClient.Concord,

I also tried Restarting and deleting temporary files using the Disk Cleanup tool - no difference.
I have tried to force an uninstall from the Add or Remove programs but this still redirects me to the Visual Studio installer.
I have tried to research this error online but found nothing.
I did not fix the issue but at least I managed to uninstall the Visual Studio instance to be able to start from scratch again. If you do not want to go down the route of uninstalling, feel free to try the steps as suggested by #garbagecollector.
I deleted the installation folder for 2022 from ProgramFiles.
I deleted the Visual Studio installer from Add or Remove programs. (Note: This actually uninstalled a working version of Visual Studio 2019 that I had, and left the messed up version of 2022 with the same issues, so beware if you do not want to uninstall another working version of Visual Studio)
Then I ran InstallCleanup.exe via CMD (in admin mode). Refer to the "Remove All with InstallCleanup.exe" section within this article. This seems to have cleared all Visual Studio related files including the Visual Studio
installer, and I could re-download the installer for Visual Studio
2022 Community edition and start afresh.
I faced the same issue today and could solve it by removing corresponding dependencies from _package.json files from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\[PACKAGE_NAME] folders.
I am not sure whether you can repair your installation this way, I tried only with uninstall.
So in your case edit this file:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Concord,version=17.1.33203.90,productarch=x64 and remove the line marked with "-->" under "dependencies":

In my case I had to repeat this procedure for three or four _package.json files.

Visual Studio 2019 Installation can't get past package Microsoft.VisualStduio.MinShell.Msi.Resources

Every time I try to install Visual Studio 2019, I get the error "Microsoft.VisualStudio.MinShell.Msi.Resources could not be installed". I have tried everything I have found on the Internet. When I go to the Download folder of the Visual Studio Installer and I execute the .msi file directly of the package I get the error that it is forbidden due to a software group policy. It is my laptop and I am the admin, so there is no reason why it should be forbidden. I have Windows 10 Home and I am trying to install Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise(the Community edition also does not work).

Try the following suggestions:
1) delete any files under %Temp%
2) Check if there have 3rd party anti-virus software enabled or enterprise group policy in place that is restricting you or not.
3) type Administrative Tools in Windows search box - Open Local Security Settings -- Software Restriction Policies ( Note: If no software restrictions are defined, right click the Software Restriction Policies node and select New Software Restriction Policy) - Double click Enforcement - Select All users except Local Administrators - Click OK - Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
4) enter Manage User Certificates under Search Box-->Untrusted Certificates-->remove any info about Microsoft.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\Microsoft.VisualStudio.MinShell.Msi.Resources,version=16.0.xxx.xxx and right-click on the folder-->Security--> make sure your current user account has the right to modify the folder.
Then, run VS_Installer as Administrator
5) Besides, if it does not help, please run C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\Installer\resources\app\layout\InstallCleanup.exe to reinstall the whole VS(all versions of VS2017 and VS2019), vs data, related registry information(do a deep uninstallation), then run vs_installer as Administrator to try again.

Solution
Use the ccleaner tool to clean the os environment and disk and install the program without any errors.
I just had this happen to me on the Microsoft.VisualStudio.AspNetPackages.Msi.
I found this here.
They suggested to find the msi in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages and run it while the installer is paused. Then resume the install. and magically it worked for me.

Can't update Visual Studio Installer (no error message)

I'm trying to install the latest version of Visual Studio Community 2017, however I'm having a few issues. I downloaded the Visual Studio installer and run it. After trying to go through it, it just shows and empty dialog box with the only option being to close. There's no error or anything, but if I'm not wrong, it should open the window showing which parts of Visual Studio I want to install. Screenshots showing the process:
Anyone have any experience with this? Or am I doing something wrong?
Please follow the steps as below to completely remove the VS 2017:
Go to Control Panel—Programs and Features, right click the ‘Microsoft Visual Studio 2017’ and choose ‘Uninstall’
Try to delete the following installed folders: %ProgramData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages and %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community
After that, make sure windows update is up-to-date, clean up the %temp% folder, temporarily disable any antivirus, download the latest installer from Visual Studio Downloads and run it as administrator to install.
If this issue persists, please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs and find vslogs.zip under the %temp% folder, then upload the file to Onedrive and share the link here.
This is a known issue, we have fix this in the next major Visual Studio update release. (15.4)
The WMI service on your machine was not working (due to pending OS update). The Bootstrapper depends on WMI service and since WMI service is not working correctly, ManagementException is thrown. In 15.4, we have removed the Bootstrapper's dependency on WMI.
If you see this error again, you can try the followings to workaround this issue.
Workaround:
1. Download latest Bootstrapper from https://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/ and run vs_enterprise.exe --passive --update in an admin command console window. (this will force update your VS Installer)
OR
Reboot your machine and follow this instruction to repair WMI:

Unable to install Visual Studio 2017 (result code 0x0, 0x2)

I have been trying to install Visual Studio 2017 RC for the past two hours but so far, I have not been able to install any version of Visual Studio. I have tried looking around for solutions, but so far nothing.
Here's an image of running the installer. This is about as far as it goes.
After doing this, the installer just exits and kills itself and no installation happens. Waited for a while and nothing happens. No installer applications running in both task manager and resource manager, so I'm assuming it right after it reaches that.
Any ideas?

This computer is clean and has never install or attempt to install any version of MS Visual Studio before.

I had the same problem, and it turns out that some part of the installation was trying to read from a config and failing. After running it a few times, it eventually created a folder called "VSFaultInfo", and it contained a ConfigurationErrorsException.
My problem was that I edited my machine.config at one point, and the installer was getting an exception from trying to read from it. It installed when I undo-ed the modifications I made. My config was located under "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config", but it might be different for you. Try to delete it or find a VSFaultInfo folder on your computer.
Most Visual Studio installer problems since VS2012 are caused by corrupt packages that is has downloaded. The log file you posted suggests this might be the case.
The packages are downloaded to the temp directory in user accounts \AppData\Local\ folder as indicated in the log file. I would suggest that you clear out all files in this directory and run the installer again, triggering it to re-download required packages which are hopefully no longer corrupted.
Refer to the error message, the installation met issues when extracted or launched the package. Make sure windows update is up-to-date, temporarily disable any antivirus software, clean up the %temp% folder, then re-run the VS 2017 installer as administrator.
In you have tried to install any VS 15 preview versions or re-install the VS 2017, you can perform a manually uninstall like the following:
Go to Control Panel—Programs and Features, if there have ‘Microsoft Visual Studio 2017’ or ‘Microsoft Visual Studio Installer’, right click it and choose ‘Uninstall’

I finally figure out a problem after over an ENTIRE week of searching and messing around with settings. I can actually do my homework normally now (whoo hoo...).
Like so, I have tried everything you guys have said to no avail, although the solutions you guys have provided did solve some of my classmates' problems, so thank you for that.
So here is what I did:
Press Start (windows icon) + R to open up the 'Run' window.
Type in services.msc to open the 'Services' window.
Scroll down and find 'Windows Management' Instrumentation, right-click it, then click 'Start'.
Look at the 'Startup Type' and see if it says 'Manual (Trigger Start).' If it does not say that, right-click on it, click on properties and set the 'Startup Type' to automatic.
Run the installer as an administrator and install.
So if anybody has this problem, try enabling services. Some of these services are required in order for Windows to actually allow the application to install. In this case, it was a service which retrieves information from the computer in order for the installer to install properly.
I disabled this service previously in order to improve hard drive performance, with no awareness that it restricted me from installing software.

I noticed I had unknowinly messed up with machine.config
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
I reverted the changes to default and the installation started well at last.

Unable to uninstall, modifiy or repair visual studio 2015

I didn't not install Visual Studio 2015 to the C: (it's my ssd drive and its pretty small). I choose to install VS2015 to G: and G drive has died and most of the files do not exist, such as:
G:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0*
I would like to reinstall, but at this point, when I run the uninstaller, I am unable to repair, modify or uninstall VS2015, it fails with error:
"Cannot continue because some of the required components failed."
I am unable to install VS again, because of the same errors. I looked at a force uninstall, but the files do not exists to force the uninstall.
I really don't want to reinstall windows10. Any other ideas?
In my scenario, I had just performed a user migration from one PC to an AWS instance and was not able to use VS 2015 Enterprise edition upon migration. I attempted to run a repair from "programs and features", run setup.exe from the ISO mounted to a drive on windows and even tried to run it from a disk and I couldn't get anything to run. What I had found was a reg key that led me to an idea of how to repair VS from an internal installer. The reg key that I found was:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{4983E758-4064-3D74-BB77-75C3F86C34B3}
which provided me with an install source for the currently installed version of visual studio. Within this registry key I found the "InstallSource" portion and followed it's location to other installers and uninstallers for Visual studio and other programs found at this location:
C:\ProgramData\Package Cache{14D1CABE-2B5A-3AED-B3A7-42315D062965}v14.0.23107\packages\enterprisecore
From here I went through each of the folders with a listing for v14.0...etc and was able to find the location for the vs_enterprisecore windows installer. From here I right-clicked the installer and ran a repair(you can choose to install, uninstall, or repair).
vs_enterprisecore functions
This allowed me to repair visual studio and inevitably re-update my licensing information on visual studio. Prior to doing this I was receiving a dialog to sign in and that my license was invalid no matter how many attempts I made at logging in with my enterprise issued MSDN account. As you can see below my VS2015 is operational again with Enterprise 2015 setup and is able to check for an updated key once again! This took alot of work, spent at least 8-12 hours working on this to avoid a complete re-image! I hope this helps someone later on down the road!
Visual Studio (Repaired)
I ended up just reinstalling windows, bummer.
You may have to remove any trace of what is left of it yourself. Even though the files of the installation are gone, the registry entries will still be lingering. You could try CCleaner to clean the registry. Typically when there isn't anything left and you try to uninstall from 'Programs and Features', Windows will ask you if you want to remove it from that list.
You can also use Revo, it has a 30 day trial period. CCleaner used to be free and you can still get the free version or a trial I believe.

I had met with the same problem, while I found the solution after 1 day of research.
If you are seeing the fatal error for Built Tools x86. that's where I stuck with.
First of all, remember your previous version of Visual Studio Installed in your PC. And search for online to download the build tools for the specific version of Visual Studio.
Secondly, install the same and try to uninstall VS2015 with force command in an Admin privileged Cmd prompt.
vs_enterprise.exe /uninstall /force
You could find the above file in my case 'vs_enterprise.exe' from the package cache under ProgramData/PackageCache and respective package version number which you need to explore online. If you couldn't find the above simply uninstall vs2015 from Program and features under Control Panel.
