Spring Security SAML with OKTA - okta

I try to set up SAML with OKTA for Spring application and I follow http://developer.okta.com/code/java/spring_security_saml.html.
After completing all the steps in the tutorial, I get the following error
SEVERE: Servlet.service() for servlet [jsp] in context with path [/spring-security-saml2-sample] threw exception [org.opensaml.saml2.metadata.provider.MetadataProviderException: No IDP was configured, please update included metadata with at least one IDP] with root cause

What could have possibly gone wrong?

You are seeing this error because IDP metadata url (as mentioned under step 2 here http://developer.okta.com/code/java/spring_security_saml.html#configuring-spring-security-saml-to-work-with-okta) is not set properly in securityContext.xml file.
Please copy the IDP metadata url from Sign On tab of your SAML app.
Enter it in the following section in securityContext.xml
<constructor-arg>
<list>
<bean class="org.opensaml.saml2.metadata.provider.HTTPMetadataProvider">
<!-- URL containing the metadata -->
<constructor-arg>
<!-- This URL should look something like this: https://example.okta.com/app/abc0defghijK1lmN23o4/sso/saml/metadata -->
<value type="java.lang.String">{{IDP_Metadata_Url}}</value>
</constructor-arg>

<value type="int">5000</value>
</constructor-arg>

I could successfully run the sample application using SSOCircle. Now, I am trying to use the client's ADFS url instead and I am getting the following exception:

I have tried the following solutions suggested in similar questions:
Downloading federation metadata and hosting on localhost, changing the url to https://localhost:8080/metadata/federationmetadata.xml
copying the certificate content from metadata.xml, creating signature.crt with that content and adding it in keystore
Adding the option <property name="includeDiscoveryExtension" value="false"/>
The provided adfs federation metadata xml has https protocol, whereas the sample SSOCircle idp uses http protocol. Please suggest the required configuration. I am still in process of learning Spring Security SAML.
Many Thanks

Broken Pipe - Socket Exception - with latest version of Hibernate

I didn't expect to see this even using the latest version of Hibernate. I am using Hibernate version 5.1.0.Final
I am using it with spring and here is the config:
<bean id="sessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.LocalSessionFactoryBean"
p:dataSource-ref="mySQLDataSource">
<property name="packagesToScan" value="package.to.scan"/>
<property name="hibernateProperties">
<props>
<prop key="showSql">true</prop>
<prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQL5Dialect</prop>
<prop key="hibernate.current_session_context_class">thread</prop>
</props>
</property>
</bean>
The mySQLDataSource bean:
<bean id="mySQLDataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
<property name="jndiName" value="java:comp/env/jdbc/dbResource"/>
</bean>
The JNDI resource:
<Resource name="jdbc/dbResource"
auth="Container"
type="javax.sql.DataSource"
maxActive="50"
username="root"
password=""
driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"
url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/dbname"
/>
There is probably a workaround this but I am really interested in knowing what is the standard approach to resolve this problem?

Looks like this issue is happening if the application has no activity with the database for a considerable amount of time (say 12 hours in your case). So it could be an issue related to expired or stale connection issue.
As per this link, MySQL by defaults assumes any connection that has been idle for a longer period, say 8 hours, marks it as inactive and closes it. But the connection pooling mechanism on application end may not be aware of this connection close and results in broken pipe exception at a later point when the app actually uses it.
As suggested in the link please set up with testOnBorrow=true and validationQuery=SELECT 1.
Apart from that, your sessionFactory is still using hibernate4 specific one.
<bean id="sessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.LocalSessionFactoryBean"
I believe that could be the issue.
Can you try with hibernate5 specific LocalSessionFactoryBean.

I'm using GraniteDS 3.1.1.GA, Spring 4.2 and my granite-config.xml file has
<security type="org.granite.spring.security.SpringSecurity3Service"/>
I can see it has specifically Spring3 in it, but not sure how to go around this.
in spring security 4 csrf was enabled by default which caused this issue! disabling it fixed the problem. Something like:
<http pattern="/graniteamf/**" etc.. >
<intercept-url pattern="/graniteamf/**" />
<csrf disabled="true"/>
</http>

I do added the corresponding FederatedMetadata.xml file in the classpath as well.

Please advice
Your system complains that it's unable to verify the certificate presented by the HTTPS endpoint of your ADFS. You can find details on how to configure trust for such endpoints in the Spring SAML manual, see chapter 7.2, section HTTP-based metadata provider with SSL, it says:
By default, loading of metadata using the HTTP-based provider over
HTTPS performs trust verification configured in your JDK. In case
you'd like to use certificates in your keyStore, add the following
bean which changes the socketFactory used by the HTTP Client:
<bean class="org.springframework.security.saml.trust.httpclient.TLSProtocolConfigurer"/>
The TLSProtocolConfigurer instantiates TLSProtocolSocketFactory and
registers is as a default socket factory for https protocol inside the
HTTP Client used for metadata loading. The socket factory uses all
public certificates present in the keyStore as trust anchors for PKIX
validation. The used keys can be constrained with property
trustedKeys.
So you should simply import certificates used by the ADFS into your samlKeystore.jks and configure the above mentioned bean. Details on extracting the certificates and importing them can again be found in the manual.

BadCredentialsException: Kerberos validation not succesfull

I would like to perform authentification with SPNEGO. I use:
spring-core-3.1.0.RELEASE.jar
spring-security-core-3.1.0.RELEASE.jar
spring-security-kerberos-core-1.0.0.M2.jar
package codec from spring
core security 3.0.7 (https://jira.springsource.org/browse/SES-98)
tomcat
My Config file looks like the following. When I try to authentificate with the above libraries I got the following exception.
Had someone the same problem and handled it?

I found the problem.
Spring-security-kerbos requires path to keytab file as "Resource String" (details: http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/3.0.x/reference/resources.html).
When I set path as "file:/home/xxxxx/conf/krb5/krb5.keytab" then application runs but I think that it can't open the file later and Kerberos cant load any key. Unfortunately Log from Kerberos is not so clear.
When I set path as "/home/xxxxx/conf/krb5/krb5.keytab" I got the following exception
Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: ServletContext resource [/home/xxxxx/conf/krb5/krb5.keytab] cannot be resolved to URL because it does not exist
Solution for this issue can be the fix in the file SunJaasKerberosTicketValidator.java:
private String keyTabLocation;
LoginConfig loginConfig = new LoginConfig(keyTabLocation, servicePrincipal, debug);
instead of:
private Resource keyTabLocation;
LoginConfig loginConfig = new LoginConfig(keyTabLocation.getURL().toExternalForm(), servicePrincipal, debug);
With this fix everything works. We can set path to file in format "/home/xxxxx/conf/krb5/krb5.keytab"
If someone knows more details about it, please write it here.
At least Java 7 is not (or, my version is not) able to handle the "file:" prefix: See this link. I had to make the same modification to Spring sources as you did. Thanks, this was helpful. Wasted half a week on trying different configurations.
