I do request to Model:
$user = User::findOrFail($id)->get();
And afetr try to except some fields from $user collection:
$user = $user->except(['surname', 'is_buyer', 'password']);
But in result I get still full $user collection
The problem here is that you don't have here collection as you expect. You have here collection of models, so you will get all model fields. Also using:
$user = User::findOrFail($id)->get();
is really strange, as you will get always 1 record and put this into collection.
Depending on your needs you might want to choose only some fields from database like this:
$user = User::select('id', 'name')->findOrFail($id);
instead of using collections here.

I know I can do the following to create multiple records with one query :
$users = [];
$users[] = ['name' => 'Tom'];
$users[] = ['name' => 'Jerry'];
$result = User::insert($users);
The problem of this approach is that ìnsert uses the query builder, and returns a boolean.
What if I wanted to have the created Eloquent models returned ? Would that be possible without having to do another query to retrieve them (how would I do that since I don't know the created ids ?) ?
I'm looking for something like the create method (which returns the created User model), but for multiple inserts (afaik createMany does not work outside of relationships)
Thanks
I'm very confused by this!
In a laravel controller:
$user = Auth::user();
return $user;
returns the entire user object
$user = Auth::user()->id;
return $user;
returns the id of $user as expected
however if I put that exact thing into a query such as:
$user = Auth::user();
$query = Model::where('user_id', $user->id)->get();
return $query;
I get an error that I'm trying to get an 'id' property of a non-object!!!
How can this be possible?
I've also checked 100 times that I'm logged in when testing this.
Editing to add that I've also tried:
$query = Model::where('user_id', 1)->get();
and that works fine
edit to show the function:
$user = Auth::id();
$result = Lesson::where('user_id', $user)
->whereNotNull('notes')
->get();
return response()->json($result, 200);
Expected results: A list of objects with a filled in "notes" column.
Actual results: an empty [] and an error saying can't get id of a non-object
Don't use Auth in Models.
You can set a relation between User and your Model and do query like:
Auth::user()->relation()->get();
This error occurs if the Model doesn't contain any raw with that user id. Make sure you have the raw in the Model where you are querying to get data by user id.
You should try this
$user = Auth::user();
$result = Model::where('user_id', $user['id'])->get();
The error occurs because of you passed property of non-object.
Even after error not solve then restart your xampp or wamp.
If possible, upload the screenshot of error.
Your code should work if you are authed, it seems your are not based on the error message. Since you return json, i assume this is an api request. Api-routes uses another auth driver as default in Laravel (token vs. session). Either change the driver/guard or move your route(s) from routes/api.php to routes/web.php.
See docs for auth
You can change the driver in config/auth.php.
try this
$user_id = Auth::user()->id;
$query = Model::where('user_id', $user_id)->get();
return $query;
I have table with many to many relationship.
User many to many Permission
I already define many to many relationship on both model, and create the pivot table also.
What I want is get all user which contain permission name
What I have done so far is
User::all()->permissions->contains('name', 'access.backend.admin')->get();
But it give me
Undefined property: Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Collection::$permissions on line 1
What wrong with my code?
User::All() returns a collection not model object. You have iterate over the collection to get the model object and use ->permissions().
For exapmle:
$users = User::all();
foreach ($users as $user) {
$user->permissions->contains('name', 'access.backend.admin'); // returns boolean
}
Or you can get a single model from DB as:
$user = User::first();
$user->permissions->contains('name', 'access.backend.admin'); // returns boolean
Update 1
To get users which contain desired permission use filter() method as:
$filtered_users = $users->filter(function ($user) {
if ($user->permissions->contains('name', 'access.backend.admin')) {
return $user;
}
});
Update 2
You can also write a query which returns the desired result as:
$filtered_users = User::whereHas('permissions', function($q) {
$q->where('name', 'access.backend.admin');
})->get()
I have a similar case of questions and tags, they have many to many relationship.
So when i have to fetch all question with a particular tag then i do this
$tag = Tag::where('name','laravel')->get()->first();
I first retrieved the Tag model with name laravel.
and then retrieved all questions having tag laravel.
$questions = $tag->questions;
Similarly you can do this
$permission = Permission::where('name','access.backend.admin')->get()->first();
$users = $permission->users;
I know that we can insert array in Session as Session::push('person.name','torres') but how to keep laravel collection object such as $product = Product::all();,as like Session::put('product',$product);.Ho wto achieve this?
You can put any data inside the session, including objects. Seeing as a Collection is just an object, you can do the same.
For example:
$products = Product::all();
Session::put('products', $products);
dd(Session::get('products'));
Should echo out the collection.
You should convert it to a plain array, then convert them back to models:
Storing in the session
$products = Product::all()->map(function ($product) {
return $product->getAttributes();
})->all();
Session::put('products', $products);
Retrieving from the session
$products = Product::hydrate(Session::get('products'));
You can see an example of this method here.
I have a collection of objects. Let's say the objects are tags:
$tags = Tag::all();
I want to retrieve a certain attribute for each tag, say its name. Of course I can do
foreach ($tags as $tag) {
$tag_names[] = $tag->name;
}
But is there a more laravelish solution to this problem?
Something like $tags->name?
Collections have a lists method similar to the method for tables described by #Gadoma. It returns an array containing the value of a given attribute for each item in the collection.
To retrieve the desired array of names from my collection of tags I can simply use:
$tags->lists('name');
Update: As of laravel 5.2 lists is replaced by pluck.
$tags->pluck('name');
More specifically, the laravel 5.2 upgrade guide states that "[t]he lists method on the Collection, query builder and Eloquent query builder objects has been renamed to pluck. The method signature remains the same."
Yep, you can do it nice and easily. As the Laravel 4 Documentation states, you can do
Retrieving All Rows From A Table
$users = DB::table('users')->get();
foreach ($users as $user)
{
var_dump($user->name);
}
Retrieving A Single Row From A Table
$user = DB::table('users')->where('name', 'John')->first();
var_dump($user->name);
Retrieving A Single Column From A Row
$name = DB::table('users')->where('name', 'John')->pluck('name');
Retrieving A List Of Column Values
$roles = DB::table('roles')->lists('title');
This method will return an array of role titles.
You may also specify a custom key column for the returned array:
$roles = DB::table('roles')->lists('title', 'name');
Specifying A Select Clause
$users = DB::table('users')->select('name', 'email')->get();
$users = DB::table('users')->distinct()->get();
$users = DB::table('users')->select('name as user_name')->get();
EDIT:
The above examples show how to access data with the help of Laravel's fluent query builder. If you are using models you can access the data with Laravel's Eloquent ORM
Because Eloquent is internaly using the query builder, you can without any problem do the following things:
$tag_names = $tags->lists('tag_name_label', 'tag_name_column')->get();
which could be also done with:
$tag_names = DB::table('tags')->lists('tag_name_label', 'tag_name_column')->get();
Here are a few snippets from my own experimentation on the matter this morning. I only wish (and maybe someone else knows the solution) that the Collection had a $collection->distinct() method, so I could easily generate a list of column values based on an already filtered collection.
Thoughts?
I hope these snippets help clarify some alternative options for generating a list of unique values from a Table, Collection, and Eloquent Model.
Using a Collection (Happy)
/**
* Method A
* Store Collection to reduce queries when building multiple lists
*/
$people = Person::get();
$cities = array_unique( $people->lists('city') );
$states = array_unique( $people->lists('state') );
// etc...
Using an Eloquent Model (Happier)
/**
* Method B
* Utilize the Eloquent model's methods
* One query per list
*/
// This will return an array of unique cities present in the list
$cities = Person::distinct()->lists('city');
$states = Person::distinct()->lists('state');
Using an Eloquent Model PLUS Caching (Happiest)
/**
* Method C
* Utilize the Eloquent model's methods PLUS the built in Caching
* Queries only run once expiry is reached
*/
$expiry = 60; // One Hour
$cities = Person::remember($expiry)->distinct()->lists('city');
$states = Person::remember($expiry)->distinct()->lists('state');
I would love to hear some alternatives to this if you guys have one!
#ErikOnTheWeb
You could use array_column for this (it's a PHP 5.5 function but Laravel has a helper function that replicates the behavior, for the most part).
Something like this should suffice.
$tag_names = array_column($tags->toArray(), 'name');
