I'm using a mac book pro.
When I'm pressing the upper left corner green button - it makes the window
into full screen and hides the dock bar.
I want my window to be almost full screen - I want the dock bar to remain.
One option is to manually starch it, but this is something that needs to be done every time.
Is there a way of customizing the upper left green button for that?
The functionality you're looking for is known as "zooming" the window. It used to be that the green button did that, but these days it enters full-screen mode instead. If you hold down the Option key when you click the green button, it reverts to the old zoom operation. You can also use the Zoom item of the Window menu. You can also configure things so that double-clicking on the title bar zooms the window, on the Dock pane of System Preferences.

I upgraded to Catalina, thumbnail preview stopped working on my desktop.
I tried everything that I know, "Show icon preview" is ticked, Preview app is applied to open all kinds of images, but still just the generic icons appears. This is very frustrating, since I am working with images and video files, that I need quick access to.
Hope to someone help me with this.
I was able to resolve the preview issue by doing following.
In Finder, press Shift ⇧ + Command ⌘ + G and enter ~/Library/Preferences.
Then find com.apple.finder.plist and move it to the Trash.
Right-click on the Finder icon in the dock and select Relaunch.
Press and hold the Option Key
Right-Click or Control-Click Finder in your Dock (maintain holding Option)
Select Relaunch from the pop-up menu (If you don’t see it make sure you hold Option before right-clicking Finder)
If this doesn't work, ensure that JPG files are associated with Preview. To do this, right-click on one of them and choose Get Info. Under the Open With section, select Preview, and then click Change All. You may need to relaunch Finder with this method too.

I don't know why suddenly the battery icon disappears from the taskbar and the System Icons settings page is displaying that option as disabled:
Can anyone help me please. How can I get back the battery icon?
try this brother,
In the Device Manager, expand Batteries. Right-click on Microsoft AC Adapter entry and click Uninstall button. Click OK button when you see the warning message to continue uninstalling the driver.
Next, click on Action menu and then click Scan for hardware changes option to restore the missing battery icon.
UPDATE
Go to start and type in gpedit.msc and press enter.
Navigate to expand User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar and disable "Remove the battery meter".
restart

This is a simple thing but I don't see it in settings.
So, I'm in my new Mac, working in a program like Safari or Firefox. I have a window in the background for another program, and it has a button. I want to click that button but have to click twice, once to switch programs and once to click the button.
I want my mouse to be "hotter" than that. Is there any way to do this?
Somewhat useful: you can hold Command and click to a non-focused window. The click will go through, however, the window will not get focus. It's useful if you have a partially covered window in the background, and you want to keep it that way, while clicking it.
BUT, if you have two windows side by side, which are not covered, it is UTTERLY frustrating that you have to click TWICE every time you want interact with them interchangeably. It would be really nice if there was an option to disable this "feature"...
This is called click-through, and guidelines for its usage are covered in Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. By default, all Cocoa controls support click-through and the feature must be turned off by the software developer. Some reasons to turn it off are covered in the Guidelines:
Avoid providing click-through for an item or action whose result might be dangerous or undesirable. Specifically, avoid enabling click-through for an item that:
Performs a potentially harmful action that users can’t cancel (for example, the Delete button in Mail)
Performs an action that is difficult or impossible to cancel (such as the Send button in Mail)
Dismisses a dialog without telling the user what action was taken (for example, the Save button in a Save dialog that overwrites an existing file and automatically dismisses the dialog)
Removes the user from the current context (for example, selecting a new item in a Finder column that changes the target of the Finder window)
To answer the actual question: No. There is no global setting for this. While it could be possible for an individual application to implement settings for itself, it's not something that I've seen.
Edit: To answer the other part of the question, is there any way to do this?, the answer is sort of. If you search for Mac focus follows mouse or Mac sloppy focus, you'll find some utilities such as Zooom/2 that focuses on each window as the mouse passes over. That is something that would annoy some people, but may work for you.

This may seem like a silly question, but how do I recenter the active program, or get it back on my screen when I can't click it?
Sometimes when I run skype and switch between resolutions for full-screen programs, the skype window disappears off screen, and I have no way of dragging it back.
Does anyone know how to fix this without restarting the program?
Alt+Tab until the desired window is active.
Try the following shortcuts:
Win+Left: Fills left half of display with active window.
Win+Right: Fills right half of display with active window.
Win+Up: Maximize
Win+Down: Minimize or reset to window size prior to maximize.
NOTE, the above is for Windows 7. I haven't tested it on other OS's.
Not sure if it will work on earlier versions.

In VS2010, how to bring back the Visual Studio's yellow gear icon ?
It looked nice and warm in VS2005/2008.
This new purple icon makes my eyes sore..
I want to write .NET codes without being constantly reminded of Eclipse..
If we're right, and you want to monkey with the logo icon, you can right-click on the program, choose "Properties", go to the "Shortcut" tab and click "Change Icon". Then browse to the old VS executable and pick your old logo. I don't know how many places will pick up the change though.
