Error while runneing select query in sql developer - oracle

I am using Oracle SQL Developer version 4.1.0.19.
So this can be a very simple issue but I cannot seem to find the solution anywhere as I have just started using SQL Developer.
I type in this query
create table Student(Stu_id INTEGER,Stu_name VARCHAR(60),Stu_email VARCHAR(60))
select * from Student
And when I Run the SELECT query, I get an error something like this:
Method oracle/jdbc/driver/T4CCallableStatement.isClosed()Z is abstract
I have no idea as to why this is happening , this may be very stupid but I cannot seem to find a solution.
BTW I am using Oracle 11g version.

How did you install SQL Developer? Can you download the zip off of OTN and extract it to a fresh directory and try running it from there?
Your error message indicates something VERY bad is wrong with one of the drivers. Which makes me wonder if you messed with one of the JARs or are attempting to use an old Oracle Client with a THICK connection.

Not able to create connection on oracle sql developer tool

I'm trying to create a new connection on the Oracle SQL Developer tool but I'm not able to. I just simply download the latest version of oracle SQL developer tool from the oracle site and unzip the folder and run. I haven't set any password or anything because there is nothing to do so.
Please guide how I can make a local connection on oracle Sql developer tool.
Well based on what you have described, you only installed SQL Developer, without having the Oracle Client installed on your device.
To be able to connec to to something in SQL Developer, you need to have a database to which you would like to connect. That basically means that either you need to install one, or you have one available in your System. But I will assume that you are new to this and have no database to connect to.
First things first, you will need to install the Oracle Client. A pretty good example can be found on here. You have a video tutorial which contains a step by step guide.
Once you finished installing the Oracle Client, you can proceed with unlocking the basic HR Schema, or create your own DB Schema. Again, a tutorial on how to achieve this step can be found here.
There are a few steps to follow, but in the end, if you follow them accordingly, you will be able to make a local connection on oracle using SQL Developer. Besides that, both the links will provide you with some explanation as well for each particular task.

Setting up database link from Oracle to Sybase

I know so little about Sybase that I don't even know whether database link is the correct term in Sybase. What I'm looking for is a way to communicate with Sybase over Oracle's heterogeneous services, commonly called a database link in Oracle (linked server if you speak SQL Server).
We are a primarily Oracle shop with a healthy dose of SQL Server, but zero Sybase experience. As you might guess, we have a piece of software that happens to run on Sybase, and we need to get information out of its database.
Professional services from the software vendor have not been helpful at all; frankly, we don't even know if they gave us the correct driver.
Our Oracle DBA is as sure as he can be (without knowing anything about Sybase) that he has everything set up correctly on the Oracle side.
When we try to run a query from Oracle to get data from Sybase, we get:
select * from call_request#sybase
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[SAP][ASE ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server Enterprise]Incorrect syntax near the
keyword 'where'.
{ZZZZZ,NativeErr = 156}
ORA-02063: preceding 3 lines from SYBASE
Complaining about syntax near "where" doesn't make much sense, since there is no predicate at all. And it doesn't help to add a dummy
where 1=1
We're completely unsure where to turn. What can we even check next? Where is the documentation for setting this sort of thing up? Any ideas what is wrong?

ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number with Oracle 18 and Oracle 19 Windows client

After upgrading from Oracle 11/12 to 18/19 I get this error: ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number.
The error occurred in a query like this:
SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM TABLE) MY_TABLE WHERE ROWNUM <= :P_ROWNUM
(Subquery + binding parameters)
The identical query works properly with the Oracle 11.2.0.4 or 12.1.0.2 client. It fails with the Oracle Client 18c or 19c.
PS: The Oracle Server is version 18c 64x for Windows.
I use Delphi 10.1.2 with ADO components (dbGO). I also tried with Delphi 13.3.3 but the behavior is the same.
It seems to be a problem in the Oracle OLE DB provider (ORAOLEDB).
If I don't use ADO but DevArt Unidac all worked as expected.
Someone can help me?

Your query is fine. We ran into a similar issue when migrating from 12.1 to 19. In our case, we have a custom OLE DB provider that interfaces with OraOLEDB (and others) using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider Templates (ATL). When attempting to upgrade from 12.1.x to 19c we started seeing the strange and confusing "ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number" error for parameterized SELECT queries. The queries would succeed the first time they were executed but subsequent executions would fail when all we did was change the parameter value (the queries were executed sequentially). I went on a wild goose chase trying to diagnose the issue and finally decided it had to be an Oracle caching bug of some kind. Yesterday, I experimented with the cache-related connection string attributes and found that adding the MetaDataCacheSize attribute and setting its value to 0 (zero) resolved the issue for us. None of the current Oracle patches appear to address this issue, at least none of those that mention the ORA-01036 error.

SSIS Fast Load error when using Attunity Oracle connector to 11g

When enabling Fast Load in Attunity Oracle Destination Components in several similar SSIS packages using Oracle 11g as target - a few packages fail and return the error below, but the rest of them work fine.
The error message I get is:
Description: Fast Load error encountered during PreLoad or Setup
phase. Text: ORA-39826: Direct path load of view or synonym (
TABLE_NAME ) could not be resolved.
If I'll disable the Fast Load, those that failed would work fine too of course.
More importantly, the failing packages work fine with Fast Load when using Oracle 10g as target.
I don't understand why it doesn't work in those that failed.
What am I missing? What should I do to make the Fast Load work at all times and not sometimes?
probably a driver issue.
The 'fast load' option internally uses a BULK INSERT statement for uploading data into the destination table instead of a simple INSERT statement for each single row. Since bulk insert is a native sql server function you should try to understand how does it work for oracle. It probably changed from 10g to 11g
By pure chance, I discovered that the target component fails in an SSIS package if its ‘TableName’ property contains spaces before or after(!) the name of the table. Once deleted it works fine.
This error didn’t occur on 10g.

SQL Plus and www.apex.oracle.com

Does the SQL syntax differ in any way for SQL Plus and apex.oracle.com
From this article I can assume that it doesn't, but I want to be sure. Is SQL Plus only an environment that is able to connect to an Oracle server ?
I'm asking this because I just started learning Oracle's SQL syntax and I don't have access to my faculty's server from home. The only solution I found so far is Apex since I'm not planning to install a server on my laptop.

Yes, SQL*Plus is not very useful unless you can connect to an Oracle database server.

If you cannot connect to your faculty's database server from home, you have no choice but to install your own server somewhere. Apex only runs on an Oracle database server.
However, it's not too difficult nowadays, as long as you follow the installation instructions carefully.
Another option is to get a free account at apex.oracle.com. You'll be able to use Apex's SQL interface. I don't think you can connect to it using SQL Developer, though.
Alternatively, you can start up a simple pre-prepared Apex instance on Amazon's EC2. With this option, if you open the relevant port (1521) you'll be able to connect to it using SQL Developer.
The SQL commands are identical. They are all passed directly to the database engine for execution.
SQL*Plus has a bunch of extra commands (mostly for formatting output, but also stuff like dealing with variables and database startup/shutdown).
[Very old versions of SQL*Plus from the Oracle 7 era don't recognize the MERGE command as SQL and would refuse to do anything with it. But I'd hope those versions are all dead and buried by now.]
SQLPlus commands are to manage the SQLPLus environment and have really nothing to do with SQL. They are mostly for formatting output or taking in data that is used with SQL to send to the server.
SQLPlus is a proprietary Oracle product for connecting to Oracle server and issuiung commands. It is being replaced (officially) by SQL Developer.
I strongly suggest you download the free SQL Developer program from oracle:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
it's a great tool for working with sql, pretty easy to get started (install, create a new db connection and start typing sql_ plus does fill in for columns once it know the tablenames.
Also, it can run most sqlplus commands if you want to format output, etc.
A nice visual intro to the oracle schema and useful if you want to write plsql.
