I've been implementing a test of the new Vision framework which Apple introduced in WWDC2017. I am specifically looking at the barcode detection - I've been able to get after scanning the image from Camera/Gallery that it's a barcode image or not. However, I can't see what the actual barcode value or the payload data when looking at the barcodeDescriptor. There appears to be nothing exposed on the https://developer.apple.com/documentation/coreimage/cibarcodedescriptor page to identify any of the properties.
I am getting these errors:
Cannot connect to remote service: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4097 "connection to service named
com.apple.BarcodeSupport.BarcodeNotificationService"
libMobileGestalt MobileGestalt.c:555: no access to InverseDeviceID (see problem/11744455>)
connection to service named com.apple.BarcodeSupport.BarcodeNotificationService Error
Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4097
Is there any way to access the barcode value from the VNBarcodeObservation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Here is the code I am using:
#IBAction func chooseImage(_ sender: Any) {
imagePicker.allowsEditing = true
imagePicker.sourceType = .photoLibrary
present(imagePicker, animated: true, completion: nil)
}
#IBAction func takePicture(_ sender: Any) {
if(UIImagePickerController .isSourceTypeAvailable(UIImagePickerControllerSourceType.camera)){
imagePicker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceType.camera
self .present(imagePicker, animated: true, completion: nil)
}
else{
let alert = UIAlertController(title: "Warning", message: "Camera not available", preferredStyle: UIAlertControllerStyle.alert)
alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: "Dismiss", style: UIAlertActionStyle.default, handler: nil))
self.present(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)
}
}
//PickerView Delegate Methods
func imagePickerController(_ picker: UIImagePickerController, didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo info: [String : Any]) {
imagePicker .dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
classificationLabel.text = "Analyzing Imageā¦"
guard let pickedImage = info[UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage] as? UIImage
else { fatalError("no image from image picker") }
guard let ciImage = CIImage(image: pickedImage)
else { fatalError("can't create CIImage from UIImage") }
imageView.image = pickedImage
inputImage = ciImage
// Run the rectangle detector, which upon completion runs the ML classifier.
let handler = VNImageRequestHandler(ciImage: ciImage, options: [.properties : ""])
DispatchQueue.global(qos: .userInteractive).async {
do {
try handler.perform([self.barcodeRequest])
} catch {
print(error)
}
}
}
func imagePickerControllerDidCancel(_ picker: UIImagePickerController){
picker .dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
print("picker cancel.")
}
lazy var barcodeRequest: VNDetectBarcodesRequest = {
return VNDetectBarcodesRequest(completionHandler: self.handleBarcodes)
}()
func handleBarcodes(request: VNRequest, error: Error?) {
guard let observations = request.results as? [VNBarcodeObservation]
else { fatalError("unexpected result type from VNBarcodeRequest") }
guard observations.first != nil else {
DispatchQueue.main.async {
self.classificationLabel.text = "No Barcode detected."
}
return
}
// Loop through the found results
for result in request.results! {
// Cast the result to a barcode-observation
if let barcode = result as? VNBarcodeObservation {
// Print barcode-values
print("Symbology: \(barcode.symbology.rawValue)")
if let desc = barcode.barcodeDescriptor as? CIQRCodeDescriptor {
let content = String(data: desc.errorCorrectedPayload, encoding: .utf8)
// FIXME: This currently returns nil. I did not find any docs on how to encode the data properly so far.
print("Payload: \(String(describing: content))\n")
print("Error-Correction-Level: \(desc.errorCorrectedPayload)\n")
print("Symbol-Version: \(desc.symbolVersion)\n")
}
}
}
}
Apparently, in the iOS 11 beta 5 Apple introduced new payloadStringValue property of VNBarcodeObservation. Now you can read info from QR-code with no problems
if let payload = barcodeObservation.payloadStringValue {
print("payload is \(payload)")
}
If Apple is not going to provide a library for this, something like the following will work:
extension CIQRCodeDescriptor {
var bytes: Data? {
return errorCorrectedPayload.withUnsafeBytes { (pointer: UnsafePointer<UInt8>) in
var cursor = pointer
let representation = (cursor.pointee >> 4) & 0x0f
guard representation == 4 /* byte encoding */ else { return nil }
var count = (cursor.pointee << 4) & 0xf0
cursor = cursor.successor()
count |= (cursor.pointee >> 4) & 0x0f
var out = Data(count: Int(count))
guard count > 0 else { return out }
var prev = (cursor.pointee << 4) & 0xf0
for i in 2...errorCorrectedPayload.count {
if (i - 2) == count { break }
let cursor = pointer.advanced(by: Int(i))
let byte = cursor.pointee
let current = prev | ((byte >> 4) & 0x0f)
out[i - 2] = current
prev = (cursor.pointee << 4) & 0xf0
}
return out
}
}
}
And then
String(data: descriptor.bytes!, encoding: .utf8 /* or whatever */)
If you want to get the raw Data from the VNBarcodeObservation directly without it having to conform to some string encoding you can strip of the first 2 and 1/2 bytes like this, and get actual data without the QR code header.
guard let barcode = barcodeObservation.barcodeDescriptor as? CIQRCodeDescriptor else { return }
let errorCorrectedPayload = barcode.errorCorrectedPayload
let payloadData = Data(bytes: zip(errorCorrectedPayload.advanced(by: 2),
errorCorrectedPayload.advanced(by: 3)).map { (byte1, byte2) in
return byte1 << 4 | byte2 >> 4
})

Need help in figuring out why my function is not executing when I thought it should but it executed after the completion block in the code. I am fairly new to Xcode so please excuse me if things sound confusing here. Below is my code.

I'm developing a macOS app with SwiftUI.
I have an extension to save the NSColors on Userdefaults & get it later.
I want to use this extension but cannot cast the SwiftUI Color to NSColor and vice versa.
The codes I tried so far was these:
let swiftUIColor = Color.red
let nsColor = NSColor(swiftUIColor)
or
let nsColor = NSColor.red
let swiftUIColor = Color(nsColor)
None of the above codes did work out.
Here is the extension to save & read NSColor on Userdefaults:
extension UserDefaults {
func color(forKey key: String) -> NSColor? {
guard let colorData = data(forKey: key) else { return nil }
do {
return try NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchivedObject(ofClass: NSColor.self, from: colorData)
} catch let error {
print("color error \(error.localizedDescription)")
return nil
}
}
func set(_ value: NSColor?, forKey key: String) {
guard let color = value else { return }
do {
let data = try NSKeyedArchiver.archivedData(withRootObject: color, requiringSecureCoding: false)
set(data, forKey: key)
} catch let error {
print("error color key data not saved \(error.localizedDescription)")
}
}
}
Previously, I was using the following to discover e-mail meta-data from a drag & dropped e-mail(/-thread) from Mail.app.
if let filenames = draggingInfo.namesOfPromisedFilesDropped(atDestination: URL(fileURLWithPath: destinationDir!)) {
/// TODO: in future implementation Mail might return multiple filenames here.
/// So we will keep this structure to iterate the filenames
//var aPaths: [String] = []
//for _ in filenames {
if let aPath = pb.string(forType: "com.apple.pasteboard.promised-file-url") {
return aPath
}
//}
//return aPaths
}
Kind of janky, but it worked, since "com.apple.pasteboard.promised-file-url" was only supplied in those situations.
Since 10.12 however, the API seems to have changed, and looking at the WWDC2016 talk it appears that Apple wants us to use NSFilePromiseReceiver now.
I've tried a couple of approaches but I can't get a promised file URL to pop out.
Setup:
class DropzoneView: NSView {
var supportedDragTypes = [
kUTTypeURL as String, // For any URL'able types
"public.url-name", // E-mail title
"public.utf8-plain-text", // Plaintext item / E-mail thread title / calendar event date placeholder
"com.apple.pasteboard.promised-file-content-type", // Calendar event / Web URL / E-mail thread type detection
"com.apple.mail.PasteboardTypeMessageTransfer", // E-mail thread detection
"NSPromiseContentsPboardType", // E-mail thread meta-data
"com.apple.pasteboard.promised-file-url", // E-mail thread meta-data
"com.apple.NSFilePromiseItemMetaData" // E-mail thread meta-data
]
override func viewDidMoveToSuperview() {
var dragTypes = self.supportedDragTypes.map { (type) -> NSPasteboard.PasteboardType in
return NSPasteboard.PasteboardType(type)
} // Experiment:
dragTypes.append(NSPasteboard.PasteboardType.fileContentsType(forPathExtension: "eml"))
dragTypes.append(NSPasteboard.PasteboardType.fileContentsType(forPathExtension: "emlx"))
self.registerForDraggedTypes(dragTypes)
}
}
Handling:
extension DropzoneView {
override func draggingEntered(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo) -> NSDragOperation {
return .copy
}
override func draggingUpdated(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo) -> NSDragOperation {
return .copy
}
override func performDragOperation(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo) -> Bool {
let pasteboard: NSPasteboard = sender.draggingPasteboard()
guard let filePromises = pasteboard.readObjects(forClasses: [NSFilePromiseReceiver.self], options: nil) as? [NSFilePromiseReceiver] else {
return false
}
var files = [Any]()
var errors = [Error]()
let filePromiseGroup = DispatchGroup()
let operationQueue = OperationQueue()
let newTempDirectoryURL = URL(fileURLWithPath: (NSTemporaryDirectory() + (UUID().uuidString) + "/"), isDirectory: true)
do {
try FileManager.default.createDirectory(at: newTempDirectoryURL, withIntermediateDirectories: true, attributes: nil)
}
catch {
return false
}
// Async attempt, either times out after a minute or so (Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1001 "(null)") or gives 'operation cancelled' error
filePromises.forEach({ filePromiseReceiver in
filePromiseGroup.enter()
filePromiseReceiver.receivePromisedFiles(atDestination: newTempDirectoryURL,
options: [:],
operationQueue: operationQueue,
reader: { (url, error) in
Swift.print(url)
if let error = error {
errors.append(error)
}
else if url.isFileURL {
files.append(url)
}
else {
Swift.print("No loadable URLs found")
}
filePromiseGroup.leave()
})
})
filePromiseGroup.notify(queue: DispatchQueue.main,
execute: {
// All done, check your files and errors array
Swift.print("URLs: \(files)")
Swift.print("errors: \(errors)")
})
Swift.print("URLs: \(files)")
return true
}
Other attempts:
// returns nothing
if let filenames = pasteboard.propertyList(forType: NSPasteboard.PasteboardType(rawValue: "com.apple.pasteboard.promised-file-url")) as? NSArray {
Swift.print(filenames)
}
// doesn't result in usable URLs either
if let urls = pasteboard.readObjects(forClasses: [NSPasteboardItem.self /*NSURL.self, ???*/], options: [:]) as? [...
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I have managed to get the file to "pop out" but I cannot get the details for them. It transfers immediately and then hangs for 60 seconds before returning an error message.
Maybe it's a clue but the checkExtension method never returns unless commented out and set to true.
Hopefully this helps kick the can down the road a bit:
class DropView: NSView
{
var filePath: String?
required init?(coder: NSCoder) {
super.init(coder: coder)
self.wantsLayer = true
self.layer?.backgroundColor = NSColor.red.cgColor
registerForDraggedTypes([NSPasteboard.PasteboardType
.fileNameType(forPathExtension: ".eml"), NSPasteboard.PasteboardType.filePromise])
}
override func draw(_ dirtyRect: NSRect) {
super.draw(dirtyRect)
// Drawing code here.
}
override func draggingEntered(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo) -> NSDragOperation {
if checkExtension(sender) == true
{
self.layer?.backgroundColor = NSColor.blue.cgColor
return .copy
}
else
{
return NSDragOperation()
}
}
fileprivate func checkExtension(_ drag: NSDraggingInfo) -> Bool
{
return true
// guard let board = drag.draggingPasteboard().propertyList(forType: NSPasteboard.PasteboardType(rawValue: "com.apple.mail.PasteboardTypeMessageTransfer")) as? NSArray,
// let path = board[0] as? String
// else
// {
// return false
// }
//
// let suffix = URL(fileURLWithPath: path).pathExtension
// for ext in self.expectedExt
// {
// if ext.lowercased() == suffix
// {
// return true
// }
// }
// return false
}
override func draggingExited(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo?)
{
self.layer?.backgroundColor = NSColor.gray.cgColor
}
override func draggingEnded(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo)
{
self.layer?.backgroundColor = NSColor.gray.cgColor
}
override func performDragOperation(_ sender: NSDraggingInfo) -> Bool
{
let pasteboard: NSPasteboard = sender.draggingPasteboard()
guard let filePromises = pasteboard.readObjects(forClasses: [NSFilePromiseReceiver.self], options: nil) as? [NSFilePromiseReceiver] else {
return false
}
print ("Files dropped")
var files = [URL]()
let filePromiseGroup = DispatchGroup()
let operationQueue = OperationQueue()
let destURL = URL(fileURLWithPath: "/Users/andrew/Temporary", isDirectory: true)
print ("Destination URL: \(destURL)")
filePromises.forEach ({ filePromiseReceiver in
print (filePromiseReceiver)
filePromiseGroup.enter()
filePromiseReceiver.receivePromisedFiles(atDestination: destURL,
options: [:],
operationQueue: operationQueue,
reader:
{ (url, error) in
print ("Received URL: \(url)")
if let error = error
{
print ("Error: \(error)")
}
else
{
files.append(url)
}
print (filePromiseReceiver.fileNames, filePromiseReceiver.fileTypes)
filePromiseGroup.leave()
})
})
filePromiseGroup.notify(queue: DispatchQueue.main,
execute:
{
print ("Files: \(files)")
print ("Done")
})
return true
}
}
The output of this is a bit weird. The url variable aways repeats the name of the directory that I passed in eg
Files dropped
Destination URL: file:///Users/andrew/Temporary/
<NSFilePromiseReceiver: 0x6000000a1aa0>
** one minute gap **
Received URL: file:///Users/andrew/Temporary/Temporary/
Error: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1001 "(null)"
["Temporary"] ["com.apple.mail.email"]
Files: []
Done
I saw this error when trying to receive promised files to an invalid destination url.
In my case I was using Ole Begemann's Temporary File Helper and accidentally letting it go out of scope, which deleted the directory before anything could be copied.
receivePromisedFiles gave me the -1001 timeout error after a long wait, but it did still pass a URL that would have been correct given my inputs. Obviously no file was at that location.
When I changed to a valid url all worked as expected. It might be worth checking Sandbox issues etc.
Apple now have some useful example projects in the File Promises section here:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/documents_data_and_pasteboard
Previous, I have ask for how to attach video then send via email. Now it working. Advised by some friend from this website.
I found new problem that video size is very large and larger than send with default email app in iOS for same video file.
Please advice me how to compress video file before attach to an email application.
Thank you everyone.

can someone please assist me? I have some code (which I know runs properly in Xcode 6) that is having difficulty executing in Xcode 7 (due to the changes in error handling for Swift 2). I tried to convert the code using the latest Swift syntax in Xcode 7, but no recommendations were offered. Any suggestions?

try this class ive tested this and it works in the latest version of swift and Xcode

self.audioRecorder.meteringEnabled = true
self.audioRecorder.prepareToRecord()
// Super init is below

you will then have to implement your buttons of course
something like this

self.audioRecorder.stop()
self.recordButton.setTitle("RECORD", forState: UIControlState.Normal)

}
}
#IBAction func playPressed(sender: AnyObject) {
self.audioPlayer = AVAudioPlayer(contentsOfURL: self.audioURL, error: nil)
audioPlayer.play()
}
}
